ATLANTIC COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS: TEAMS FROM 11 STATE COMPETE IN VIRGINIA
June 1, 2011 – Giovanni Crotti
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The 5th annual Atlantic Coast Championships became one of the largest tournaments on the East Coast, attracting 58 teams from 11 states.“I cannot say enough about the field crews,” said Don Brooks, tournament director. “After every game, the fields were prepped and dragged,” he said and “they made an outstanding effort during the rain situation.”
Jersey Metro, the No. 8 seed coming into bracket play, outlasted 10 other teams in impressive fashion to win the championship in the Men’s 60 Silver Division. Jersey Metro gained steam as bracket play wore on, beating its opponents by at least 6 runs a game.
The Men’s 50 Major Division was dominated by the freight train known as the High Street Bucs 50. The High Street Bucs 50 went undefeated in both pool and bracket play. In the championship game, the Bucs defeated Omega QSE, the No. 5 seed 23-18.
Rain, sleet or snow could not stop Hannington of Massachusetts from taking down the rest of the Men’s 70/75 Division. Hannington of Massachusetts fought through the rain and beat the Hamel’s Cavs 15-12 in the “IF” game after having lost to Hamel’s by one run in the previous game.
