Sunshine Ambassador, 92, Dies

Dec. 1, 2012

Robert L. Dreyer, 92 years old, and a lifetime member of the Senior Softball USA and a member of the Florida Half Century Amateur Softball Association, died on Aug. 31.

He had moved to Lake Fairway in North Fort Myers, Fla., from Massachusetts in 1986.

He was a member of the Fort Myers Morning 50 Plus softball team until he was 86 when a car accident left him unable to play his favorite sport in 2006.

In 2000, he was asked to play for the Kids and Cubs softball team from St. Petersburg and for his contributions to the team he was recognized as a “Sunshine Ambassador” by the city. In 2002, his Fort Myers 80-plus team won the World Series in their division.

He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
