WOW !!!!!!!! have you opened yourself up to got blasted.

Like you and the folks you've spoken with I prefer the good bat/ball combo but it seems, if you read and believe this board, we are the minority.

I love your "practice what you preach" statement. I bet almost all of the guys who want to dumb down the equipment and argue that they're not needed still swing a Senior Bat when they play. I very seldon see anything but SB's at tournaments. Why do the guys that hate Senior Bats so much and don't need them to compete and have fun continue to swing them?

Discussion: Morning Thought To Share

Ed, great post. It's amazing the gift every single Senior Softball Player has recieved. To have the ability, health, finances and support from our love ones to travel all over this wonderful country and play a game we love is a blessing.

The sad fact is you start a post about bat/ball combination and you'll get a hundred comments is a couple days. But when you post something with true heart felt meaining, like your post, a lot of players won't respond or add thier experiences.

Makes you wonder what's really important today.

I hope you buddy Bugsy has a faith in GOD. I also hope he enjoys every minute he has left in this world. I bet he wishes all he had to worry about was hitting a good ball with a super bat.

Discussion: What Do You Think

Pricer, I think your statement "we all want the same thing, just different paths getting there" is one of the best comments I've read on this board. I think everyone wants a level playing field, rules that don't differ much from the game we played 30 years ago and an opputunity to play and be competitive.

Einstein, until someone has a better solution I believe you are in the majority when you say a good bat/ball combination is a must. I can't imagine anyone would rather play/watch a 10-9 game that a 25-24 game.

GaCMan, you've got it right bro "Keep it simple."

Tater 50, see you CMan at the Eastern NSA this weekend.

Screens: Note crazy about the idea. We use a screen in our senior league and it's ok however the player level goes from Major + to non-tournament player.

Extra player: No

Bigger plate: No

Masks: Yes, watch the young guys who play the conference, most pitchers and some infielders wear masks.

Hitting the middle: Part of the field and part of the game. Nobody tries to hit a pitcher intentionally and if they do they're idiots.

Playing NSA this weekend and no Senior Bats allowed. We'll see how it goes. I prefer a good bat/ball combination but could live w/o senior bats if we hit a good ball.

Discussion: SPA National Over 60 Major Dalton, Georgia - Injury to Wild Bunch Pitcher

Congrat's to Bruce and Pa Pa on your induction to the HOF. Two very deserving guys.

Glad to hear Terrel is ok. Everyone knows he's one of the most competitive guys around. On the field he can control a game with his antics. Off the field he's one of the most likable people you'll ever meet.

Discussion: Dalton predictions : Whose yours?

Should be some great softball played in Dalton.

In the 50 Major would like to see Kittrell's, Southern Elite and Randy Smith make some noise. Three good teams that if they get hot should do well.

In the 55 Major + Line Drive Sportz should do well with Patty Mac and Gary Deaton leading the way.

In 60 Major the Wild Bunch is loaded. Can these guys put it together this weekend? Surely as talented as any 60 Major group around.

Lets see how the east/west battles shake out.

The Baden Fire Balls should be flying!!!!

Discussion: What is Senior Softball to you?

Gary19, we also have a league here in Pensacola that uses Seniors Bats, Baden Fire Balls and a screen. If they changed to ASA/USSSA bats and a dumbed down ball the league wouldn't cease, it may even grow? The deal is that 90% of the guys in our league don't play tournaments and very seldom do they hit HR's. My point is you can't use leagues as a barometer for what tournament players want.

An example for good equipmetn is we have the NSA Easter Worlds in a couple weeks. Even though this is a "World" tournament most teams from this area won't participate. When you ask them why they say the NSA won't allow Senior Bats and they hit a bad ball. Like you say in your post "maybe the guys are voting what they want" and in this case it's good bats/balls.

Discussion: Player Poll

Tater ands GaCman, looking forward to this weekend in Lawrenceville.

I agree the Summit Organizations could poll every registered player on numerous issues and give the players what they want. Don't look for this to happen though because of cost and other issues. I believe better organizations have thier finger on the pulse and already gear rules to what they think is best for the game.

I play USSSA with a young team on occasions and the vast majority of the guys swing shaved bats. A good shaved bat is better than any senior bat.

There are some things in senior softball that could be approved but messing with the bat/ball combination might be a big mistake.

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND PLAY BALL!!!!!!

I play on the same team as the GaCman and playing with a TEAM that truly enjoys and cares for each other is a great experience.

To me softball is the Greatest Amatuer Team Sport in the World.

To pick one thing about softball is hard for me but I'd have to say (1) making frienships I'll value for life and (2) the competition.

mad dog, I'll be playing in and NSA event next month and may get to hit the 52 core ball. It sounds like there are those that like it and those that hate it? I want to hit a ball that when I hit it well I get rewarded for it. Also, I agree with the Combat. I've had two and they both lasted a long time. I guess I need to give Combat another shot.

big cat, I have sent an Ultra II back to Miken and had it replaced. You need a reciept that's less than 30 days old and they'll work with you. I broke my second Maxload this weekend in Marietta. It had maybe 50-75 swings on it. I sent it back to Miken today and hopefully they'll replace it. I have busted two Reebok Melee's this year and they replaced one of them. Would love to find a durable bat. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm beginning to agree with Gary19 and mad dog, let's quit using Senior bats and go to USSSA bats. We are being abused by the bat manfacturers.

Gary19

I belief people still play defense. There are HR limits in AA/AAA and you are forced to hit it down. Also, I'd like to know how many Major and Major + games the HR limits are not reached? A lot I'd guess. Check it out the next tournament you play. Defense has never been equal to offense in slowpitch softball. NEVER !!!!!!

I'd love to go back to no time limits and no run limits but the organizations don't want that so it won't happen. It doesn't matter what equipment we use.

No home run limits, those days are gone, look at how the young guys game is structured. More D/E teams than ever. Where I live, in the Florida Panhandle, when we played unlimited HR's one or two sponsor's had all the big HR hitters and everybody else played for 3rd. Not good for softball.

I'm in favor of the pitchers wearing protective equipment even if we change the bat/ball combination. Guys at all levels are bigger and stronger and with HR limits the middle is open.

einstein and Jose #12.

einstein, you've been called out, ridiculed, challenged, berated and many other adjectives for standing up for good bat/ball combinations and you're still fighting the good fight against guys who say no to Senior Bats and good balls. I'll bet 95% of those saying no to Senior bats use them when they play tournaments. Why would anybody want to go back in time and play the game like it was played 30 years ago? I guess we need to go back to leather football helments with no face-guards, presimmon drivers and cars with V-8's that get 10 miles to a gallon.

Jose #12, Great Post. I'm sure the majority of players agree with you. I can't imagine anybody really wants to play a 6-5 slowpitch softball game. I'd bet that in most games the HR limits are reached.

Gary19, the reason we use Senior Bats is because the governing bodies allow it and they're available. I bet you and Pricer both use them when you play tournaments? Yes or No? DO YOU GUYS WHO HATE THEM SO MUCH USE THEM OR NOT? Lets hear it. Composite bats are used in College Baseball, Under 50 Softball and Senior Softball. It's called technology. Golf clubs have changed, football equipment has changed but somehow softball should use the same equipment we used in the 70' and 80's. You imply composite bats have somehow caused softballs demise. What a joke. As for as babble babble babble all anyone on here has is an opinion. That's the beauty of Freedom of Speech. I guess your opinion is better that anyone else's? Come on now, keep your composure.

Please answer this questions. If everybody can hit homeruns and there is no defense being played why are there more AA and AAA teams than there are Major and Major + teams? It seems if "everybody" can hit bombs there should be a lot more Major/Major+ teams and fewer AA/AAA since there are HR limits then an out in AA/AAA. Offense is the name of the game in team sports. I'll bet for every player that got into baseballs hall of fame for defense there's ten that got there for offense. Also, personally I think the low turn out in tournaments is more driven by the economy and to many tournaments to choose from and not the equipment we are using. If you want even less teams to show up start hitting sorry bats and balls. Anybody that would rather see a 8-6 score than a 25-23 score is playing the wrong sport.

Pricer, isn't softball a hitters game? In a good Major or Major Plus game both teams score in the 20-30 run range. You say you played A/B ball 20 years ago. Weren't the scores similar then? I remember scoring 50 sometimes or having someone put 50 on the teams I played for sometime. The game I've played for 35+ years has always been an offensive game. I agree, everyone back in the day couldn't hit a homerun and I'd like to see the game go back to where a home run was something special. I wish all the Senior Softball Organizations that participate in the Summit would poll every registed played and see what their preferences are in regards to bat/ball combinations. If it's Senior Bats and current balls so be it and if it's metal bats and a different ball that's great to. Give the majority what they want and put all this controversy to bed. Do you use a Senior Bat when you play? I bet 95% of the guys who complain about the bats swing one in tournaments.

Discussion: Option to withdraw????

To the SSUSA Staff. It would be nice to hear from you on this. You responded quickly to einsteins comments about pitching rules!!! Teams have limited resources and should be able to withdraw from events and get thier entry fee back if they have "a valid reason" not to attend. Not having teams to play in their respective division should be a "valid reason." BruceinGa's team attends many tournaments throughout the year and my guess is they've never tried to get a refund for a tournament they've entered. Bad policy in any business should entice that business to reconsider that policy. Bruce, good luck to you guys and we'll see you in Marietta.

Discussion: Pitching Rules

gary19, your pionts are well taken and I agree with you. I just don't like the idea of using inferior equipment because we're getting older. Fighting technology seems to be couter productive to the game. I watch/play with some really good young guys and they hit the middle with some bad intentions. I have never seen a pitcher get hurt badly. Same observation for seniors, I've played 8 years with good equipment and have yet to see a pitcher get a career ending injury. The worst injuries I've seen have been from running the bases with guys blowing out knees or achilles tendons.

Einstein, glad to see you back on this board. I hit and lift with Patty Mac and he speaks highly of you. Look forward to meeting you, Gary19 and some of the other guys who post on here frequently.
