Discussion: AAA Home Runs

The team that won the 60 AAA hit 2 Hr's against us and although I did not watch all their games I don't believe they hit more than 3 in any one game. They were just a very Good team. The team we lost to hit 2 hr's. I think we average 6 hr a game.

The ball traveled. One of our smaller players hit his first ever HR on his birthday. So who is sandbagging ? 3 Hr's and the rest walks. Walks are less valuable than a single because no runner advanced.

I will you tell you this, more players than not have to change their swing if hitting the ball too hard results in an out. Many times they end up going up the middle. Yes I know what your thinking! They are not trying to hit the pitcher they are trying to get a hit.

There is more to winnning softball than hitting HR's just like there is more to golf than hittng the long drive.

Maybe SSUSA should evaluate the players on AAA teams. If they played college ball and above they should be Major or Major plus. Does a great Shortstop stay at AAA and not Major because he can't hit Hr's ??

This subject always pisses me off (obviously).Let's punish the guy that stays in shape and workouts in the off season so he can play his best (sometimes) each summer.

My 2 cents.

Eliminate the double loser bracket and make it 3 game seeding. With 3 game seeding you take some of the guess work out of the bracket play. i.e there would not be as many 3-0 teams as there are 2-0 teams. The losers bracket is way too big !!!!

Give points ( minus runs against) to teams that have placed in other SSUSA tournaments. For example If you win Westerns or Eastern Nationals the team would receive points in the form of runs against for seeding at Worlds.

Move the tournament to 4 days!

Your right, we had a 8 team tie for first seed but the tie is there until they go to the second tie breaker " Runs against" and so on. I guess I misunderstood what you were saying.

I would hope that SSUSA takes a look at my suggestion about awarding point from other tournaments in determining seeding. I agree with stig1. Both Western and Eastern Champions should be seeded 1 and 2 at Worlds.

There cannot be a 3 way tie. They have several tie breakers in place if there are more than one 2-0 team. Believe me they used it in the 38 team AAA 60's. We were 2-0 and ended up 7th seed after they figured out runs against etc.. We didn't have a problem with it.

Discussion: Seeding

After playing in Worlds last week I came to the conclusion that there has to be a better way to do seeding. In the second round we ended up playing a team that always placed high in other tournaments they played in yet they were a 20+seed. I know they had a very tough draw for round robin while other teams had very easy draws and had a more favorable seed. I realize it's impossible to make everyone happy.
Why not make qualifying tournaments like Westerns, Easterns, Reno and others worth something at the end of the year. Why not give points to teams that placed in these tournaments to be used as "runs against" went determining who is placed where for seeding.

If you win Reno you would recieve minus 10 runs against for seeding at Worlds. If you place 2nd you get 7 and so on. A team could win all the Major tournaments for the year and end up a 20+ seed because they got a very tough draw or they had an "off game". Having these other tournaments mean something other than just winning them may increase attendance too.

Just a thought. Worlds were great and the fields should be on everyone's bucket list.

Congratulations to our friends from the North. We had the pleasure of playing Jimmy and the boys at every tournament we play in this year. They won some and lost some but either way they were a class act both on the field and off.

Discussion: Meniscus Surgery Recovery Time?

I had my done late January and played in early March. The scope took about an hour or less. A little pain first night. I was up and moving the next day. It helps if your in decent shape prior to event. I was not looking forward to having it done but it really wasn't that big of deal.

Discussion: Miken is NOT taking care of the problem Ultra IIs

After breaking several Mikens each year I bought a dud this year. I contacted Miken and sent the "dud" in. I received a new bat within 8 days with a note telling me the bat I had sent in did not pass compression test. My new bad has serial numbers stamped near the grips.

Discussion: Round robin seeding

In regards to the post from SSUSA. We prefer to reward teams for shutting opponents down defensively rather than batting in the top of the 7th. The team giving up 5 runs because of who they are playing cannot shut a team down.
Yes I have seen games where 5 runs or less have been scored and I have seen seeding that was determined by one run. Why not remove the "gift" runs, if they make a differnce, when it comes to seeding.

And for the others out there that think we should stay home if we don't like it. That is not the point. We will continue to support SSUSA and all that they do. Sometimes even good things need to be tweaked a little bit.

Just so there is no misunderstanding. I don't care what they call it I just want to make sure the playing field is level for ALL teams. This is probably not the first time this has happened to a team. I have no problem giving a lower classification team runs. You have to over come the 5 extra runs to win your game. But when they consider run against, you get dinged anyaway because you played the lower ranked team.

JB you are correct their mistake. They are seeding games for the purpose of seeding teams based on win loss record, head to head and runs against. They call it a(2)game Round Robin. There should be a way to correct this before next week.

Well that is what is going happen at Westerns this year. 2 AAA teams out of an 11 team divison will be playing one AA team. As a result of this 2 AAA teams will received 5 runs against them before they even play.

Discussion: Round robin seeding

If you are playing in a round robin seeding game and you play a AA team and you are a AAA team you are at a disadvantage. Not because you have to give them 5 runs. It's because when they determine seeding it is based on head to head and then runs against. So you are punished ( can't think of a better word) for playing a lower divison team because when it comes to seeding you are already a plus 5 in the runs against before you even play.
