Discussion: Youtube video explaining difference between Wrist Snap & Wrist Rollover Swing Makeover #7

I use the overlap grip and I have for some time. This process works great for that type of grip. As far as which one is best is probably a personal preference. Although I did pick up some good distance switching to this grip but it did take some time to get use to it.

I'm not sure how or why it works but it does help get more swings out of a broken bat. I believe that it's main use is with new bats to extend the life of the bat.
I prefer to use USAAA bats and broken bats for BP and save my good bats for game use, however it is great to get the opportunity to swing your gamer occasionally without worries about it breaking.

Topic: Bats
Discussion: Tuff Shield

After reading a couple of threads on the life of bats I decided to post something, I have been successful using. I have been using the Tuff Shield and I'm really impressed with it. It’s not very expensive I believe under $12 on Kelly’s Ultimate Sports site and I’m sure it available from other sites. Mike Kelly is the one that suggested the Tuff Shield. Steve Stone in Vegas was using them many years ago but for some reason I didn't care for the product when I first tried it.

However, I have hit with new bats and even bats that I was ready to throw away because of serious cracks and have been amazed with the results. According to Mike it will increase the life of your bat by 40% (new bats) and you should be able to see only about a decrease in ball coming off the bat around 10% (although I haven’t noticed that).

I have several bats with a severe cracks and decided to throw the bats away because of the cracks and not being able to hit on opposite side with good results (bad was dead). I just pulled a couple of old white centenarians and a red Miken out of the dead pile and tried them with the sleeve and the ball was jumping off the bats. It’s easy to put the sleeve on and off. Just put the seam over the crack and hit with opposite side. Utilizing the sleeve on the new bats especially senior bats is to extend the life of the bat and help break them in and get them game ready. It also gives a chance to swing the bat you will be using in your games. I will mentioned that it does add a little extra weight on the end of the bat so it will swing slightly heavier.

I will include a video clip of my using the sleeve with a severely broken bat (just copy and paste):

http://youtu.be/R31qGHV9Fmc

I do not sell these sleeves nor am I promoting them except for the fact that I believe they really work well and they are inexpensive. I watched a video by Mike Adair today and he was hitting a new bat utilizing the sleeve and it was going a long ways. Now Mike hits a softball long ways but this demonstrates that the sleeve does not deteriorate much if any from bat performance. Hopefully he will post that video.

Mario even as big and strong as you are I believe this will help you with extending the life of your bats. It looks like Stoney was correct about the Tuff Shield!

Please don’t ask for research data because all I have is my personally hitting the ball with the sleeve and if you want to try it great if you don’t that works too.

Great video and lot of fun to make especially with the hitting talent that was out that night. Really was a pleasure and honor to hit with this great bunch of guys. My neck is still sore from watching all the balls that everyone hit out of the park.

Discussion: Impact Players List

I agree. Just because you play on a Major Plus team doesn't mean that you should not be allowed to drop down in divisional play, unless you are legitimately listed as a Impact Player. All Major Plus team players are not created equally. Some Major Plus players,as Leftyfalcon stated, do not play defense or can't run or throw.
I believe SPA has started the correct process of listed the players that should be on the impact list. All American should not be used as the only standard to be put on the impact list. I like BW idea of regional "bird dogs" from different teams.

We definitely understand the reasons your teams will probably not be playing 60 major plus next year and agree with the logic. In no way do I feel like it's a lack of competitiveness that keeps you all from playing at our level next year. In fact quite the opposite I believe that you all are extremely competitive and I admire what you have accomplished the last couple of years. You didn't back down at all. You still need a certain number of people to compete. With the Las Vegas Stars we had a very competitive team but we actually played a couple of tournaments with 9 guys when someone was hurt. I just hope everyone gets healthy and we see all of you on the ball field in the future.

Hendricks is a strong competitive team that is accustom to winning and I'm sure they will win many games and tournaments next year. They really hit the ball hard and play hard. We will look forward to the competition with them and the other 60 Major Plus teams. We may not have very many teams in our age division but what we have is extremely competitive and a great group of individuals.
I'm sorry we are losing some teams next year in the 60 Major Plus. I enjoyed playing against very competitive Master Collision, Crystal Pharmacy and Kansas City Kids. Last year with GSF I think we lost more games to this group than we won. Good luck with establishing yourselves with new teams and look forward to seeing you next year at the tournaments.

Discussion: Bases @ 70'

I endorse the 70' bases for safety and as a equalizer. It protects the infielders and gives the outfielders a better chance to throw people out on the bases. I know it would be tough for some fields to go to expand but I really believe it would be good for the Senior game.

I have witnessed several inside the park home runs by Mr. Butch Drake.
It's probably because he quit smoking and is so much faster now.

Discussion: Cheyenne Park for Worlds

1st, I would like to thank the Staff, Umpires & Crew of SSUSA for putting on a very Competitive, Fun & Entertaining Tournament for the 55 & 60 Major + Divisions.- I agree and very well stated, Ron. Umpiring was very good and consistent. Great to see Dave Barnes back in action after his broken wrist incident. This tourney will only grow and get better and we all are going to benefit from the competitiveness of teams this tourney is going to bring in over the next few years.
Cheyenne Fields were disappointing; enough said I'm sure LVSSA/SSUSA have received the message by now.
Congratulations to Hollis 60 Major Plus Champs on a great weekend playing against a very solid 9 team tourney. Eddie and Audieh have put together a great group of guys and deserved to win their first National Companionship in LVSSA/SSUSA. I was surprised and pleased to see Big Arm John playing with you and as always he played great. It was good to see Dave, Patty Mac, Bobby, Jack, Mike and the rest of the guys on Hollis all very good ballplayers and people.
Turn Two was tough as always and enjoyed playing them and finally giving them a good game. MTC was tough as always and it was a tough game against them. Jim and Joe's Ice great competitors and really had a super weekend playing well and making all of us Midwestern's proud. Sorry we didn't get to play against Bruce and Don's guys but you all played well. Didn't see D&K, KC Kids and Master Collision as much because of schedules. All three teams have beaten us this year and can play with any of the 60 Major Plus teams and beat them.

Special thanks to the GSF team and for a competitive year and the opportunity to get know players you have played against as teammates. A very special group who played well especially with the injuries this last weekend. Special Thanks to Tommy who did an exceptional job coaching us this year. Recognition for Mark Webber, Mike Adair and Bob Baimbridge for receiving well deserved All American awards.
