Discussion: Blowing up the middle in Senior Softball - are screens next???

Par,
Can't see "Big Ed" wearing shin guards.....that guy is as tough as old boot leather. Yes, a good percentage of senior players can pretty much hit the ball where they want to and is frustrating when you know they are hitting up the gut on purpose. Again, you guys are waaaaaaaaaay to nice. What's good for the goose is also good for the gander.
Enjoy the rest of the year.

Nothing more than a marketing technique
to reach out to a portion of the population that will continue to buy the product.
You either buy in or you don't. At his point more are buying in that not thus resulting in a positve product for that portion of the population that is participating.
Is it a watered down version of what we used to play...absolutely but the product must be positive from the participation side and the money side or it would fade away.
By the way..played for five years but the game became to much like the movie Ground Hog Day for me.

Gary19,
I agree, take away the senior bats, runs per inning and CR's and you definately have a more legitimate game of rec. softball.
From a business perspective ....never happen.

The game we played as a youngster is gone, not only from a philosophical standpoint but also from a business standpoint. The organizations need to turn a profit and will make changes to the game to keep players involved. As silly as some of these rules are a change back to the past would only mean less participation which in turn means less profit....you don't remain solvent on less for long.

Discussion: ASA stamped U2

I have one of the 2000 ASA stamped UII's that I picked up from a youngster. I am not playing anymore so would be willing to let go if anyone is interested. It is used but I have never hit it.

Discussion: Midwest Championships - WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR $495.00 ENTRY FEE

Also, next time find out who makes the final decision if the tournament is to continue if adverse weather conditions exist. If the TD is not allowed to have a major say on the continuation of play then don't book the site! Having some clueless park official dictate your tournament outcome is crazy!!
PS Try KC next year,(Mid-America) the place would have to be blown off the map for you not to play!

Nancy,
Then why in the world would you hold a tournament of this type at a venue knowing that you would almost have to have perfect weather to complete the tourney as teams expected? That type of logic is hard for me to grasp!!!

Liability bomb are you kidding? Wouldn't that be a very important question to ask city officials during the negotiation process for the use of their fields prior to the tourney knowing you are having teams coming in from all over the place? As JohnBob said those fields were in better shape by 4:00PM Saturday than they were Friday. Do some research, there are plenty of facilities that would love to host these events where you wouldn't have to cancel for a little rain or have "liability bomb" thrown at you. You don't need to have adverse playing conditions to prove negligence on the city's part.
Just find venues where the weather isn't such a big issue.

Gentleman..with all due respect.. when you have to start gearing up to protect yourself from the possibility of serious injury or even death in the recreational sport we play the equipment being used has progressed to a level that exceeds the physical abilities of the particiapnts playing the game. It may be a hard pill to swallow but it is the truth!!!!

Just make it mandatory that the pitchers wear goalie attire.
This way the pitcher would be safe and they could lower the HR limits even more to try and bring more parity to the game :)

Discussion: Deleteing The PPR Rule

When we start talking about screens, masks, shin guards and such for protection it is really easy to surmise that the equipment being used has far exceeded the physical abilities of the particpants playing the game of slowpitch, this goes for young and old.

Using the hottest bats on the planet and then limit HR'S. I not sure I understand that logic.

Brett,
It really is a shame. KC has some great complexes. Has to be politics or money! SSUSA there is a beautiful complex in Columbia, MO you should check it out. (Rainbow Sports Complex)

I have a slightly used Geezer (100 hits) I will sell for $100.00. I don't care for the bat. I also have the receipt if anyone is interested. I also have a Freak Plus (NIW/NR) that I would like to get rid of.
