| Nov. 10, 2008 jrhunch | Topic: Bats Discussion: New Miken Ultra II vs Ultra II Legacy bashbro,i agree with you for the most part but the original ultra2 with warrenty lasted for a long time.i owned 2 of them 1 lasted 5 years and the other almost 4.over the last 3 years the newer batches seem to suck.i think mlken changed something in production.keep hitting.pace #11. |

| Oct. 2, 2008 jrhunch | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Vegas asplayer-coach of pace i would like to sincerly congratulate the double nickel team for their win.i liked the way you took notes and kept stats on all of our games.the small things are what wins games.the problem i have with what has been said and written about us is for the most part untrue and not fair.as grown old men we should all act better than we do.we have played in 6 tournies with some success with a goal of being at our best at the end of the year.to do this all19 players play.we beleive that a team is only as strong as the weakest player.we didnt have the same players as daulton 4 were missing.we made no excuses for it nor would we.during the year we have been beaten by teams with higher classifications than us and never complained.we go and play everywhere and against everyone without a whimper.for this we are called sandbaggers and cheaters.mr.hooks never did us any favors.he is the cause of the problem.we played in 3 of his tournies.when people asked him about us he said he never heard of us.this peaked everyones concerned.it took away from our victory and made feel bad about winning and it cheapens the effort teams had against us.in 2006 we won the 50s in vegas when i got back home i immediatly had us moved up to major.the director in vegas called me 3 days before we came and told me he was having concerns about us because other teams including double nickel were complaing about us.i told him we would be happy to move up to major or give runs.i stated that we werew not bringing everyone and asked him what were we suppose to do lose in daulton.we are a group of guys who played against or with since our 20s.everyone lives within 20 miles.the 55aa rochester team won vegas this week as well as the 50aaa team won cape mayne nj this weekend.we do not draw from these teams to make a superteam.we set goals and achieved one ofthem and as a result have been treated like murderers.we will gladly move up to majors without a complaint and look forward to the challenge.we are a proud bunch and would never cheapen another teams victory.good hitting to everybody and stay safe.pete i hope you are well |
| Aug. 19, 2008 jrhunch | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: more balls than brains the baden balls that were used in salam va.were a joke.why have a beautiful complex with fields 300 ft. with high fences,if you are going to use only 240 feet of the field.i saw 3 hrs the whole time ,2 were at 8am games with 70 degrees and another with a wind blowing out to lf.we should get what we are paying for.entry fees are too high.we win nothing .at least we should have a ball that is correct.40 core under 70 degrees 44 core over 70 .why do balls with the same specs hit so different?why do we follow the rules and tds and asscs. change them when it is in their best interest?how many times have we travelled great distances and then the balls are changed? |
| Aug. 7, 2008 jrhunch | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: RATINGS WARS--continued ratings should be done with commonsense.prelim games should never count toward run differential.my team plays everyone in the prelims.we pay our own way so how do you bring players and tell them to pay to watch.it gives everyone a chance to rest.if your team is over the runs average for a tournie the teams you played and the td should be questioned on your ability.if you played 5 teams they should say whether you should move up or not.if the td and the 5 teams vote 60% should move you up if not you stay where you are.why should someone decide if you move up that never saw you play.we spend alot of money to travel to these tournies ,the expense is getting to be too much.3 tournies is alot of money spent to prove that you were right about where you should play.i have been on the side of a moveup that was justified because of winning a big tournie that should be expected.we proceeded to get it handed to us the moveup year as was to be expected.but to win or play well in a qualifier should not be automatic.teams should police themselves as well as other teams.numbers dont lie but they also dont always tell the truth.i cant believe that we as players have to pay for id cards and too high entry fees (young players dont) and dont have a say in how things are done.its more important who you are beating and not just the score.why have tds if their opinions dont count.run differential is wrong without the opinions of who you are playing.i dont encourage anyone to quit playing but encourage the powers that be to do the right thing.teams are always going to think they are right.if the players had more say then at least some of us will be right.keep on hitting and stay safe.#11 pace electronics ny |

| Jan. 31, 2008 jrhunch | Topic: Associations Discussion: 2008 National Senior Softball Summit gehall44,asa rules suck.where i play you cant use the fatboy it is illegal.the freak has been illegal in asa leagues also.the freak has been illegal here in rochester new york for 4 years even though we have to pay asa sanction fees.i might add that these are young peoples leagues.asa has its own agenda.they dont care about senior softball.my team will boycott asa tournies from here in.i agree with you on the injuries.the worse ones i see are from running,diving and sliding.stay safe |

| Dec. 13, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: IT APPEARS THAT SOME SENIORS HAVE NO RULES. wagon487,i know that you truly believe what you are saying.this maybe true in florida where very few teams travel out of florida to play compared to the number of teams playing in fla.the sunshine states have more teams and more players to choose from.in the 6 years that i have been players the teams are getting better and better.i first started out playing majors which would be aaa today.majors today is way better than majors 3-5 years ago.we moved back up to majors last year as an old 50's team and were not very competitive.our hitting 1-10 was not on par with the other teams.not complaining just being honest.even the teams that moved up with us were killing us.we had a great time but being out of kansas torney at 9am friday yes am. was horrible and i will never forget it.we like to play everyone because we pay our own way so it is very hard to compete in majors.we only draw players from our city and have known everyone for years.there is a reason why teams dont want to move up.fla. is great place to play and especially hit but the bottom line is a regular team cannot compete against major teams in the long run |
| Dec. 13, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: IT APPEARS THAT SOME SENIORS HAVE NO RULES. i dont know how they rate teams.i think it is a joke.i am sick of teams stating that they played in a aaa tournie and all the teams in it could play major.that is a joke.there is no way that a aaa team can play with the major teams in the long haul.maybe a game or 2.if you cant win a aaa tournie you wont compete well in the majors.in aaa you can win some games without being at the top of your game,this doesnt happen in the majors.there are no cakewalks in majors and the hitters are better.it stands to reason that major and major plus players were great younger players and not just in shape senior players.if they put the major and aaa teams in the same division it would ruin senior softball.if they took the hr out of aaa it would hurt the game also.dont think for a minute that guy who hits the cover off the ball 400 feet cant control his swing to hit linedrives up the middle or at an infielder causing injury.teams with good sponsors will always have an advantage as well as teams from the sunshine states.this is the nature of things.everyone should be able to play in their proper class..we as players should determine who plays where instead of an organization.how some teams get away with it is beyond me.we need more say in everything.happy holidays and keep hitting. |
| Oct. 26, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Website comments Discussion: tourney in Phoenix pifas,you are absolutely right.a 3-25 team has no chance in the major.those teams play year round and pound the ball 1-11 in their lineup.we {max spice}are a very good aaa team.in aaa team you can have a bad game and win but as a major team we have to play our best every game to just have a chance.anything less then 100% is a lose.i have no problem playing major because we had success last year in aaa.how they move some teams up and keep other teams down is beyond me.chuck you have a nice team and i hope you do well in the majors,you have to keep adding younger players as you move up in class to stay competitive.good luck to you.pifas good luck getting your money back |
| Sept. 4, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ASA Nationals in NC the problem with travelodge is that they won in 50's and were a move up to major plus.this never happened because they are registered as 55's.now they are still playing in 50's major.when they were in manassas the rules stated that you only could drop down in age groups to the same class,major plus to major plus ,aaa to aaa etc.this was not enforced.other teams could have brought other players to play but followed the rules.the lodge won 3 championships last year and weren't moved up during the year.this year teams are forced to move up without a good reason.why not them.they are not the only team doing this but how are thet getting away with this.we pay for cards and have to fill out paperwork and wait in line to register to play so everything is fair and nothing is enforced .how are teams getting away with it?what happened to natural progression?sportsmanship?rabbit you have a nice team that comes to play game after game and are gentlemen but you yourself know you only have lost 8 games this year and should be a move up soon.you have been classified major in the past and know how hard it is to win.in texas you placed third last year and the1st,second and 4th place teams have moved up to major.that was the best tourney i played in last year.we should never blame others for the rating problems it is the fault of the teams for not doing the right thing.if travelodge wants to play 50's they should be in major plus.,no if ands or buts.i am curious what they have to say.wonder why they werent in kansas playing 50 major spa? |
| June 18, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Playing down we are playing in the 50 major in manassas this week.travel lodge 55 major plus is in our age group.they won 3 major 50 world tournies last year and are on moveup list.we are looking forward to playing them.issa is letting them play so it isnt their fault.they are not cheating anyone.i am curious about the rules because we have more 55 and 54 year olds than the other ages.will be moving to 55 and over next year.some of us want to play on the 50 and 55s next year but the issa rules say you have to play at the same level in each age group to play on both teams.is this right?am i missing something? |

| April 11, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Hey JR of Max Spice chuck good to hear from you.i hope everything is well.we are in manasses va.june22-24,kansas,mo spa july13-15 vegassept 28-30.you could hookup with us in brookpark ,ohio near cleve. on memorial day weekendmay 25&26.that is a spa qualifier.there are teams from all classes there.you play by the lowest class rules.if you play a super major team(pine knob out of michigan) you play your rules.they only can hit 2 hrs.a good tourney to get some games in.we haven't been outside yet have you?we had 4 guys have surgery as a result of our last game.i hope everyone is well on your team.i will be in sterling hts. on july7-8 andsept 21-23 with the young guys.good luck this year and stay safe.hope to cya |

| March 14, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Bats Discussion: Why did Miken Change???? i dont think it is whining but just a fact.the miken product is worse now than before.what happen to pride.when you make something make it the right way.as far as asa softball,there wouldnt be any lvssa,spa or ssusa softball if asa cared about senior softball.the asa bat list sucks you cant even hit a dimarinni fatboy.we as seniors should have more say in what we need.i am tired of all the politics of senior softball(cards,bracelets,cheats balls etc.)we pay assns. big money to handle issues but instead of enforcing their rules they rely on us to keep paying more money for ids and etc. so they dont have to.name me 1 innovation in the last year that was made to our game for the positive.einstien said it right we need some representation.viva senior softball everyone stay safe and keep hitting |
| March 13, 2007 jrhunch | Topic: Bats Discussion: Why did Miken Change???? we had a miken last year that we broke after 3 swings.we replaced it for vegas and got 5 swings out of it .both bats were broken in bp with the temp. was 85 and 94.44-375 balls were used.i have an original ultra that is used by myself and our power hitter that is still going strong.i have broken 4 bats in 4 years in vegas but the original is still going stong.how is that possible?the problem i have with the new bat is the handle.the bat is legal in spa and ssusa so why the change?cheaters?why dont they change the pst .there were a bunch of shaved psts in manasses and the teams know who they are.why do we have to be concerned about the younger players cheating?that should be the younger teams problems.we have to pay for cards the young teams dont.we pay twice as much for tournies than the younger teams and we have to travel 2 and 3x the distance to play.now because they cheat we get a lousy product.no miken rep can convince me that the ultras that have been made in the last 2 years are the same as the years before.why get rid of the warranty?if combat didnt come out with a sturdier bat would miken have lowered their prices?i was a firm supporter of miken and considered them innovators and supporters of senior softball but now i have many doubts.sorry for the ramble.keep playing.viva the revolution viva senior softball everyone stay safe.#11 max spice |
