Discussion: Get rid of Major +

Alan and Bob you are both right. How about as soon as you win 1 tournament you get bumped up?

Softball associations have begun to cater to mediocrity, so teams will enter tournaments and spend $$$$. Most teams have no desire to get better and move up. Every excuse from travel, $$$, playing the same teams, we can't hit enough HR's, we won't win, and we just play for fun are used to not move up.

If it was truly about competing then why wouldn't your team want to play at the higest level? And for those of you who say you just play for fun then what does it matter if you lose in the M+ division? Afterall winning isn't important it's just for fun.

Since softball is a business, associations must cater to everyone for monetary purposes. It's a shame people don't play for the competiveness rather than worry about not losing, because then there would be 2 divisions, uppers and lowers........

Adidas TR6

They are trail runner shoes but work great on turf, dirt and grass. Amazon has them.

Bat sanction fees and proof of insurance from bat companies has been around forever. It's not SSUSA's responsibility to make sure the bat companies comply. Obviously whomever from Dudley and Easton was suppose to take care of it dropped the ball.

Kudos to all of you that called or emailed. Would have been very interesting to see umpires throw out all the Dudley, Easton, and Combats used in sanctioned SSUSA tournaments. Glad I swing Louisville. hahaha

Not too many 40 teams post on this site. usually just us older more mature guys.

I can tell you my 40 or 50 teams aren't going. As in any tournament you gamble on how many teams in your classification will show up.

I really wanted to play in Mesquite this year but there are no teams in our classification so we cancelled.

You should just try asking teams next tournament or convincing a few teams to try an attend otherwise you may end up playing a two team tournament.

The 50 major plus teams try to communicate about tournaments at the beginning of the year so we know who will be playing where and when.

So to answer your question it's a crap shoot. you will be rolling the dice.

Discussion: A True Equalizer

I understand the need for ratings based on skill level. I don't believe anyone is less of a player because they play at a lower rating. Omar you make good points about playing with your friends BUT if the friendship part is most important why not play straight up and strive to be competitive rather than worry about winning?

If a lower rated team beats us straight up then I will tip my hat and you can dance and open up champagne for all I care because you beat us the right way.

Yeah DCPete my bad. Guess I was raised to try to get better and that nothing in life is free. You put the work in, do your best to be competitive and learn how to win. Guys like you are the reason there are only a few major plus teams. Now go to your den and dust off all your participation trophies.

Discussion: A True Equalizer

I am in favor of no Equalizer. I agree we give the lower teams too many advantages with runs and players and home run limits.

And an Equalizer where the lower team wins 40-50% of the time is asinine. If the lower team truly cared about getting better all they would care about is being competitive with the higher ranked teams.

And it's true when a team takes the runs and an 11th player and use lower HR limits and then they win, they jump around like they just won the world series. Is it really winning when you take runs and an extra player?

You really need to consider allowing players age 50+ to play. We all play against each other in tournaments anyway.

Discussion: ACL Injury

Lewbo

I had ACL surgery. Dr. used my hamstring to repair it which meant a shorter recovery time.

I believe your own hamstring, your own patella tendon or a cadaver tendon is used. Depends on your dr. and your body type. Also it depends if you did cartilage damage or not on recovery time.

Rehab is painful, but most important along with reaching full extension and flexion, or you may limp the rest of your life.

I was playing again with a brace in 5 months but limited. I was pretty close to normal at 7 months. Good luck, do the rehab and take it seriously.

Discussion: Why so many shaved senior bats

Alan

I wholeheartedly agree, But if you follow other softball organizations nobody has come up with a solution.

Compression testing isn't the answer.

Provided bat tournaments are great if you have bat company connections willing to provide bats. However, then people won't purchase bats.

My point was slamming SSUSA isn't the answer either. It's going to take someone getting caught and permanently suspended for others to take note. How someone is going to get caught is the $100,000 dollar question.

Discussion: Why so many shaved senior bats

Alan 55
How are you going to come out and blame SSUSA for shaved bats?

Explain to me how they are to enforce shaved bats and do it legally and keep everyone happy?

Compression testing is not 100% accurate, and just because your bat tests low doesn't mean it shaved. You want them to start cutting bats open based on suspicion? Or do they get a crystal ball and guess who has a shaved bat?

Who is going to pay to replace cut open bats that aren't shaved?

Maybe if managers and teammates would police themselves and call out their own players then just maybe the problem could be reduced. Cheating in sports is never going to be zero percent because people have always tried to gain an advantage.

Calling out SSUSA isn't the answer. The same problem exists in all levels of softball and no one has come up with a solution except using provided bats at all tournaments. That's a costly thing that is not excepted by everyone playing softball.

And bat manufacturers aren't going to change the way bats are manufactured just because a few people complain about shaved bats. Shaved bats break easier therefore, more bat sales.

So instead of bashing SSUSA come up with a PERFECT solution and I'm sure they would be willing to listen.

Saguaro was remodeled a few tears back and is very nice now. Good dirt and moved the fences back a few feet. I would say Saguaro and the new park in Peoria are the nicest behind BLD in Gilbert.

HAHA. Not petty at all just don't believe that if you spend $200 on a bat that you should have to use glue on it.

So your very broken in "hot" bat gets a crack on the barrel. You put a little bit of glue on the crack to repair it. Still not altering the bat?
