Discussion: Senior Leagues in So Cal that allow more than single wall bats

Smarkley 3

I would encourage you to do some research on softballs. The .52 core ball wasn't made to decrease injury only slow down the speed. That core ball is terrible when it comes to bad hops.

I am guessing you are not a major plus player otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about what softball is used.
The day I need a mask to play infield is the day I will find another hobby.

Oh and sorry I took a little bit to respond I was in vegas playing with youngsters who average age was 28 years and we were using dudley 44/375 balls with very good broken in provided bats. Oh and although there were lasers being hit nobody complained about the balls.

Good luck on finding a league.

The .52 core balls are very bouncy. If it's hit hard at you in the infield chances are you are going to lose teeth or a broken orbital bone. The .52 core balls suck for infielders.

So Here is what I take from this entire thread:

If you believe Thunderstruck had or used illegal players then send a written request to SSUSA headquarters with you real name and you will receive an explanation.

OR

You can spend the off season figuring out ways to get BETTER so you can compete next season.

And lastly maybe we will go back to just one division and a blind draw. There won't be any complaining then.............

Discussion: Any results yet for the 50 major?

POSTED BY TIM MILLETTE on another message board.

Maybe this helps maybe not....

Our team..

Pitcher Rev 57 years old 50 major plus player last year for summersville and 55 major plus player with MTC he won two worlds.

Catcher myself, 58 years old, with a knee that didn't allow me to do anything more then jog all weekend..won 55 plus worlds with MTC last year

DH Scott Becker 56 years old, back disk injuries that held him out half of the season..won 55 Plus worlds with MTC last year

1B James, 59 years old and new to senior ball..I am told he had not played tourneys in 17 years..don't know it that's true. He has a separated shoulder and cannot throw over hand.

2B, charlie Penia 59 years old, won 55 Plus worlds last year with MTC

3B, Dave Matusich 63 years old, won 55 Plus last year with MTC as a substitute part time player..won 60 plus worlds this year with MTC as a starter.

SS, Billy, 50 years old and played this year with Classic Glass in 50 majors until he was cut/quit

Middle infielder/5 man, Ronnie Gonzalez, 52 years old, played with Stanislaw Sluggers ssusa AAA team last year.

Left field..George, 59 years old, won 55 plus worlds last year with MTC

Center fielder..Elbert Certeza..49 years old but eligible because he has a late in the year Birthday and will be turning 50 in 2017..El won 50 Major worlds last year with layercake out of norcal.

Right field, Rick Garza? 50 years old, Played 40 majors last year

Utility, Mark Emerson, 60 years old, playedartime with Nazareino in 50 Plus last year, didn't make the team in 2017 when they merged with Arizona elite and moved to 55 age group. Mark was given a medical re evaluation because he torn his rotator, had doctors letter and X-rays sent to Sacramento..Mark is incapable of raising his glove hand above his chest...

Utility...Zaf...played AAA last year.

So that's our team..

Six guys that played with MTC 55 last year and won worlds that average 58.6 years old.

One utility player that is injured and 60,

another utility that is 53 and played AAA

A 52 middle infielder that played AAA

And four very good 50 year olds.

I honestly do not know if our team is legally a 50 major team or not...I say that because there are too many variables (do what ssusa wants openings) in the ssusa rule book to really know.....what I do know is...

Discussion: DAVE & BENJI4 READ WHAT OTHER WOMEN TEAMS THINK ABOUT THIS PARK.

Ms. Dee

I have played at every park in Las Vegas at one time or another during my 32 years of playing softball. Vehicle break-ins occur anywhere not just in those neighborhoods you deem bad. Lock your car and don't leave anything visible in your vehicle.

A couple of kids stealing a box of cash hardly seems unsafe and really doesn't affect softball.

The fields are dirt with outfield grass just like all the other fields except for turf infields at BLD. The scheduler gave you a valid explanation.

And no I am not a rep or part of SSUSA. Just a player who has been lucky enough to play the last 4 years on the best 50 major plus teams.

Good luck this weekend.

Thank you Webbie for educating some.

But we all know it's far easier to be anonymous and bitch and complain on this message board then it is to send your complaint with your REAL NAME in writing to the Home office. Dave has said that a hundred times.

If these people feel they were wronged then they should do as you/Dave have stated...............

But we know they won't......................

Discussion: WHY DID YOU ALL PUT THE WOMEN TEAMS AT HOLLYWOOD PARK?

You are playing a World Tournament in Las Vegas. Does a little traffic and a field not so close to your hotel really matter?

And how many times does SSUSA have to come on this message board and explain why certain fields are used?

Maybe it's time for people to stop bitching and complaining and be thankful you are alive to go out and compete..............

Alan

I am hearing from two reliable sources that a certain Hall of Famer's new signature Louisville bat coming out Sept 1st with it's new technology will be one of the top 3 senior bats.

Guess we will have to wait and see......

I appreciate all the info you provide and the things you do for senior softball. Be safe

Not a mind reader at all. More like a realist. Unless the players were twins, I still don't think what number a guy wears is that important.

Guess I have lived too many years realizing:

Don't try to make chicken soup out of chicken shit...

Good luck to you sir....

Discussion: message board standard for all

I will help you out Vinny my brother.

Personally I'm not a fan of anonymous posts, but I realize some people are thin skinned and afraid. It is what it is.

I think this board serves a few purposes. It's obviously a way for people to bitch and complain. Some putting their name to it and some not. Also a way for some to just Vent. And it's just a way to thank someone, or recognize someone or some team, or educate some people.

It's also sometimes informative. Some posts are just flat out stupid. Some are sarcastic. I think sarcastic posts from SSUSA personnel do serve a purpose. It's way for them to stick up for themselves.

I also think that if you truly have an issue or question, calling the main office and identifying yourself is the most efficient way of getting a response or answer to a question.

But most of all I think this board like any other message board is just simply a way for people to talk crap to each other all in fun of course. Hell some of the CORE players at a retirement party in Las Vegas this past weekend were dogging me about my posts. Calling me the voice of Major Plus.....But I'm not thin skinned and nothing anybody ever says or posts about me is going to affect me very much. I'm just not easily offended, nor do I ever think my opinions are WRONG..........

So with that said, I think the Board is what is and will probably never change. Probably why nobody responded to your original post. be safe..........

Wolfman. Nope not a SSUSA rep. Just a player, but I have ran many tournaments and know you will never make everyone happy and people who have never run a tournament tend to bitch and complain the most.

I was merely trying to answer your questions.

I am thinking you should start your own senior softball organization. Call it Wolfman Softball and you can use whatever balls you want.

Sorry to break the news to you but not everything gets voted on and LIFE ISN"T ALWAYS FAIR....

Good luck to you on your new softball organization.

Let's see. On at least 5 different occasions this year on this message board, a SSUSA representative has said the ball they have contracted with is the Trump Stote, except in Vegas where the Rock ball is used because of a previous commitment with Las Vegas.

And I do believe SSUSA has put something out in the newsletter that they were in need of more umpires.

So if you paid attention to previous posts you would probably have your answer instead of complaining on a message board.

No business or 501C(3) organization will ever let you see their entire expenses. This is America and you have a choice to play or not play......

Some of you are starting to sound like Millette......

Dave

I cannot believe you don't have the fields schedule done for Vegas. The first games are to be played the end of September and it's already July. Dang.

You can't be that busy I only see 3 or 4 tournaments going on right now with several hundred teams. I really think you need to work harder..... hahahaha

I still really can't believe someone would even ask that question right now............

Vincent.

That info came from the Sommerville manager. The 4 Sommerville guys that play 50's for JK are ages, 60, 57, 57, and one soon to be 57.

I don't think anyone on Sommerville 55 is under the age of 57.

By the way I am available to play 40's in Vegas your team should pick me up...

Bert

Let me answer a few of your questions. JK 50's consists of 7 Sommerville guys. Five still play on the 55 team and the other 3 weren't old enough. So essentially JK and Sommerville are synonymous.

And the average age of the Sommerville 55 team is 59 years old. They currently do not have a player under the age of 56. Sommerville played in the 50 division for 10 years some of which the team name was Mavericks and most players could have moved up to 55.

So the age of most guys weighed in their decision to move to 55 major plus.

There will never be a Sommerville vs JK game because neither team would have enough starters to play.

Good luck to you new major plus team.

I guess I will never understand. Throughout life I was taught COMPETING was most important not winning.

Preparation, dedication, work ethic, experience, and practice led to eventual winning. Every team gets their asses handed to them at first then you make adjustments and find a way to compete. I always thought competing at the highest level was far more important than winning. After all only ONE team wins the tournament.

Just seems that disbanding because you have to play better competition is JUVENILE. (I will use your word).
So what if you lose. If you go out and COMPETE to the best of your abilities and strive to get better that should be the your motivation.

The new Gatorade slogan should sum it up: "Make defeat your fuel."

Is the T-shirt, hat or SSUSA backpack really that important?
