Commit line is 20' from the plate (I'm guessing....too lazy to look it up )

Can't make the tag after the commit line.

As far as the commit line being 9' from the plate.....I had the opposite thing happen in Tucson once. No base coach, I rounded third about 20 feet, found the ball, stopped and went back to third only to realize I'd alredy crossed the line. DOH!

(a) those differences have nothing to do with how you used the word "girly"

Sure they do. Generally, men don't avoid confrontation like women do. You haven't noticed this in your 50+ years on earth?

-------------------------------------

(b) you clearly used that word in a derogatory manner

Derogatory to the original poster, not to women. Women are stuck with being women just as we are stuck with our sometimes less than desirable traits like your insufferable, opinionated, boorish, pigheadedness.

------------------------------------

(c) "estrogen levels"???? "feminist reply"??? Are you as big a dick as you are coming across in this thread?

Sometimes. What about you?

-------------------------------------

By the way, using the word cromagnon to refer to you was an insult to primitive people.

That was kind of a girly insult^.

And by girly, I mean weak.

Gary, having 3 daughters and presumably a wife, I would assume you have learned that girls act differently than boys on many different levels.

Maybe being around them for so long has increased your estrogen levels which prompted your feminist reply.

My observation is that men handle conflict more directly than women. I never claimed that the manly way was the right way.....but it is :)

I'd be pissed but I would talk to them directly instead of going this route.

Seems kind of girly :)

Discussion: loss of an senior player- PHX

I met Doug playing ball about 14 years ago and had been playing league ball a couple times a week since then.

His inaugural senior tourney 7 years ago was in Vegas with CJS and it was a trip to remember both on and off the field.

Doug was not the kind of guy that most opponents would remember. He wasn't a jokester/loudmoth like some of us.

He never lost his temper or had anything bad to say about his opponents or umpires. He just did his job at 3B, pitcher or outfield and had fun.

I want to thank all the players who attended the service last night and had such kind words and stories to share with Doug's family.

I have had my share of friends that have passed but I am truely missing Doug right now. There has never neen a better person than Doug Schilling and I will miss him terribly.

4.3 (3) EXTRA PLAYERS AND EPS
B. Should an offensive player become injured, causing the team
to drop below the original batting line-up, the team will not be
forced to forfeit the game, and an out will be declared only the
first time that position comes to bat.

**************************************

Obviously he was an offensive player so, what's the arguement?

The rule doesn't say ""Should a player listed on the line up card become injured...""

Being listed or not on the line up card is another issue. He is bating so he is an offensive player.

"""Joncon, why is that impossible? """"

Read all the words. It's ALMOST impossible. A true "under 6' pitch" almost never happens.

Umpires routinely call a 7' and 8' pitch flat because it is flatter than the normal pitches they see.

Mike. If you are an ump, you should KNOW that it's almost impossible to hit the plate/mat with a slow pitched softball on a pitch under 6'.

You lost ALL credibility with your claim of 3 and 4 foot pitches.

3 feet is about at your pelvis. 4 feet is about ar your sternum.

It would have to be a FAST PITCH ball to be 3 to 4 foot.

For the minimum, if the pitch rises abobe the pitchers head, it's over 6' high.

Your eyes are inches short of the 6' mark and the top of the pitchers head will generally be within inches of it.

A little bit of daylight under the ball and it's EASILY the 6' minimum.

As far as the high pitch? I work construction so it's second nature to me. You just need to learn what it looks like.

Discussion: When a Pitcher is not a defensive player...

Actually, there is a time where the pitcher is not an infielder.

The ump was A) confused or B) he didn't see the ball hit the pitchers glove.

When a runner, off the bag is struck by an UNTOUCHED batted ball that hasn't passed an infielder (except pitcher) the runner is out.

Example: If an infielder (except pitcher) is playing in front of the baseline and the ball gets by him and hits the runner, he's not out.

Discussion: fair or foul ball

"""he said the ball never bounced between me and the plate and went by me as a line drive"""

Well....thats a bit different.

I was just saying that, if it was a line drive that hit and hopped 55', you were probably ducking for cover and not in the best position to make the fair/foul call.

If the ump didn't see it hit the ground, that's pretty sad.

Was the umps name Dan? :)

Mad dog. Who had a better angle on the play? You at 3B or the ump standing right in line?

If you were standing right on the bag and you looked straight up to see the path clearly in fair territory, you might have a point.

The bag was at the halfway point between where it first hit fair and where it landed foul.

Logic says that it was a very close call and would be deffered to the one with the better angle (as well as the one designated to make the call :) )

Discussion: curious umpire

Good question. I will have to surmise that they put an ounce or so of some kind of epoxy in the cap.

Either that or they simply print "Balanced" or "Endloaded" on the bat :)

I saw an Combat endcap of a *supposedly* stock bat that had a few 1/4" nuts epoxied in.

Discussion: curious umpire

Composite bat manufacturing is not an exact science.

There is a lot of hand work involved, applying the different layers.

Generally, the bats all come out weighing appx 26 oz and the extra weight to bring it to 27, 28, 30 (if needed) is simply added to the handle via a small metal rod.

Anyone suggesting that the rod would in anyway affect performance is mistaken. It's there simply to get the weights close to correct.

Keep in mind that one ounce is about the weight of 5 quarters. Not much, especially in the handle.

If you are going to check bats, check something that matters......which you can't realy do without a sawzall:)
