Cognac,

Hey big fella how've you been? Still trying to be the tallest shortstop in senior softball or are you heading
back out to the garden in the outfield?

Still not 100% gotten over that cold I had at the TOC. Forgotten what it's like to sleep laying down instead of sitting up at night. At one point I had lost about 15 pounds ... of course that's like throwing a lifeboat off a cruise liner. Talked with Curt Hollis' wife Debbie yesterday and she said she still had the bug also. Seems like a lot of folks can't shake it.

Hope all is well and maybe we'll see you at the Spring national next month. Take care and be safe.

Audie,

As far as fields .. here in Ft Lauderdale, Brian Piccolo park has 6 fields that are 320 feet down the lines and 325 in center. Can be reserved pretty easily with notice.

Airport is 25 minutes away. Hotels ... you'd have to wait until after the season is over in May.

Don't forget the complex in North Naples. Only problem there may be flying in to Ft Myers.

I would think bigger fields are a must.

Bob,

Ditto on the congratulations. Great job! Tell Roger he has passed Johnny Mac's first class on scorekeeping and presenting a line-up (LOL).

Also, was great to see Vinnie and the guys from Windy City. You guys always come down and despite having put your gear in hibernation for a few months, do well.

29 oz .... I never used it in a game! Hit it a couple of times in BP to break it in.
At least the sporting goods store gave me a full credit when I returned it.

Curt,

Great job! Sal told me he saw you out in St Louis and told me about your weight loss. It takes a lot of will power to accomplish that.

Have you incorporated any cardio or just the diet change?

Big John

My Wrath II cracked in 2 places around 100 swings. It was just starting to perform.

Discussion: U2 Handles

Hey Laser

I went into the Miken site and noticed they are showing 2 bats under their U-2 series. The U-2 "advanced" (silver knob) and the U-2 velocite.

Kelly Sports has an ad for Original U-2's for $199

I am assuming this is not the old style?

Discussion: Ring tournaments--7 innings--1&1 count

I have been playing 1 and 1 since U-trip instituted it I guess around 1989 or so. Most of our leagues here in South Florida have also adopted it., ASA included. As a former pitcher I loved it because with 2 strikes I could "play around" especially when playing U-trip.

You would really hate playing in our Half Century down here in Florida. It's 1 and 1 with no courtesy foul on the 2nd strike. That can be rough on a hitter and I am no fan of that rule but it does speed up the games. Remember, even if you save only a few minutes, it may keep your game from being called short due to time.

I totally agree with Gary on having a clock during championship play. NO TIME LIMIT! Ever. It is just ridiculous to have championship bracket games cut short due to time. A lot of teams travel a long way to play 7innings. Last I heard, softball was still a 7 inning game.

Again ... one man's opinion

Discussion: Updates In Ft. Meyers

Tried to post this earlier but somehow didn't post ...

The Specialty Tank 50's Super major team was NOT using Ultra 2's. They were swinging Worth Mayhems ... some right out of the wrapper. They started slow Friday but came on Saturday night. Curt Hollis hit a couple of balls that probably showed up on the local airport's radar screen. Cecil Whitehead, Bear Chandler and Patty Mac crushed the ball. First time "coach" Matty Digennaro also hit it extremely well.

Bruce's 55 team WAS truly Super with Bruce Meade, Mike Walker, T-Rex and Gary Deaton to name a few. They were impressive.

The Lee County complex fields were excellent. I didn't hear any complaints except that there was only 1 ump for each game until the finals Saturday and tourney play on Sunday. The umps in our games (7 of them) did a great job.

Discussion: ISA- HAS A MACHINE THAT WILL TEST A BATS BPF.

Gentlemen,
I am 100% in favor of bat testing or anything to clean up the game. I have no respect for anyone who alters a bat, especially in our group where the U-2 is legal in a lot of tourneys.

Bats do "liven" up without altering. Maybe setting a limit to the BPF just outside the 1.2 on used bats because you would be allowing for the break-in? Any bat, whether altered or not with a rating outside the set guidelines would not be elligible for use. Now I don't know anything about how these standards are determined and what the difference is in a bat rated at 1.23 vs 1.2. and how far the ball comes off. That would be up to all the people who do testing to decide, but at least the ball is rolling.

I also feel the testing should be done beore the tournament begins. The TD could hold any bats that failed the test until after the team was eliminated.

Big John, I am also signing in here to your note on the next post down.

Vin, You're welcome. I would have hated for you fellows to find out halfway back to Chicago you qualified for the finals and then missed showing up. Now that would make for a long winter!
Don, having pitched for many years ... there is no way I would hit the middle. I'm sure we'll see each other next year down the road.

Vinnie ... you wouldn't be the young pup roaming around in the outfield for the Chicago bunch would you? I "played" catcher for the Anglers. You guys were a great bunch of guys as were all the teams we played. I have to admit, it was a pleasure to be at a tourney where no one carried on or protested anything or any umpires decisons. I enjoyed our 2 games against each other. Guess it was only fitting we split the championship with all the rain and mud. You're right about it being unsafe. It was difficult to see at times. Never fails ... we haven't had much rain since the hurricanes so naturally it reared it's ugly head for the nationals. Hope to see you and your team next year. Good luck Rook. Conman
