Gary 19, I'm not sure I can answer your question but here's my take. I am 60 years young and have played at the Major plus, and Major levels. I am now playing for a 50 AA team. First, ratings are not consistant throughout softball. Take the USSSA Masters for example. A SSUSA Major team may not be good enough to play at the USSSA Major level and could reasonably play AAA in this tournament. Also at this age level, you know how injuries can impact a team. You often start the season in one division and end up in another. Unless you have all the facts about a teams condition, how many players they have left behind, how many older players are filling in etc., I don't think you have the ability to determine at what level a team should be playing at. That's what the tournament directors are for. If people want to complain, they should direct it at the TD's.

A little more information about Mr. Ruth. Bill Ruth has been actively involved in softball as far back as the early 70's and has sponsored some of the best teams in the Northwest during those years. He has spent 100's of thousands dollars of his own money to promote the game he loves and many, many people have benefited from his generosity. So go ahead and bash him, his organizations, and his teams all you want. Just know that there are very few people on the planet that have given as much to this game, that we all love, as much as Bill Ruth has.

Discussion: time to bring the boys back

einstein: Thanks for starting this post. It's refreshing to see some speaking their mind about something that seems to be so politically incorrect these days. God forbid that someone say anything negative about this administration or the senseless war in Iraq for fear of being branded as "unpatriotic" or "against the troops" or "liberal" or "unchristian".
As long as we are talking about God, do any of you have any idea how many people on this planet have been killed in religious wars or "in the name of god"? The best guess estimate is about 809 million. So, pardon me if I take a small step back when someone starts wearing their religion on their sleeve. Just something to think about and no offense intended to anyone with strong religious beliefs. Please check out this link if you want an outline of religious wars.

I know most of the guys on the Seattle team you are referring to. This was their first time playing together as a unit. Yes, they did have some of the Ruth players who have been playing Major (not Major-Plus). The majority of the Ruth guys that were there are over 65 but have continued to play down an age bracket. The team also had a handful of AA players on the team. Some of these guys had career best games in this tournament. So unless you have all the facts, on the surface, it looks like they should have been in a higher division. I know they drubbed some teams pretty handily, but some weekends that happens.
I also know and played with many of the Grimes Trucking guys. I know that they have never asked for any preferential treatment They have been the dominant Senior team in AZ for many years but I have seen them get drubbed by many Major Plus teams and they have fared pretty well in some tournys as a Major team but have also lost their fair share of games.
It would be nice if all the tournaments had equal talent in all divisions but that rarely happens so you just have to play who shows up. I have seen many, many so called loaded teams get beat. On any given weekend anyone can win. Playing better teams makes you better !!

Not sure what association you're referring to but sounds you must have been on the losing end of a game or 2. Possibly in Ohio this last weekend? I was not there but that was the last big tournament.

Discussion: Beat the Heat---Ammonia Water

Another upside to Ammonia Water:
Wetting yourself down with ammonia water will give you the "pissy" smell of a drunken street person. The opposing team will be sickened by the smell and not play their A game.

Discussion: Seattle Washington

Pastimers 50AAA, Seattle team will be there. This is always a good tournament with some stiff competition. As some of you may know, Seattle teams always represent well at the Nationals and Worlds. How about some of the midwest teams coming out this way and playing some good competitive teams. Fields are great and we'll pray for some good weather.

Discussion: POOR GUY

Chillards,
Please quit hyping this offer.
I don't know how you got your free bat, but here is what I experienced.
I work for an Internet company and have a technology background. I also have the best popup blocker available.
POPUPS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS SITE AND THIS OFFER.
You are directed to go to some other s sites to get free offers of information by giving them your contact info. You must complete these offers on 3 sites.
You are then directed to additional sites where you are required to subscribe to at least 2 of these offerrs. These offers require a payment of at least $40 or more.
The bat offer people will then comfirm that you did indeed complete the offers.
So in my estimation, this is NOT a free bat offer as you are required to be bombarded with phone calls and e-mails not to mention the expense of the REQUIRED subscriptions.

Hi Slick,
There is a qualifier this weekend in Phoenix for the 50 and 55 age groups. Contact Rick Seifman the tournament director at 623-776-3525. He will be able to tell you where they are playing.

Thanks Bruce. Forgot about NSA. Mitch, if you check the current information on the ASA website, dated 2/20/05, it lists the Easton Synergy SCX2 as a banned bat.

The best bat for all associations including ASA, which has the largest banned bat list, has to be the Miken Freak.
The Miken Freak +, Synergy2 and Synergy + are not ASA legal.

Discussion: Bought a supposedly NIW Freak online

Is there a surefire way to tell if this is actually new? I have my suspicions. I purchased it online for $260 from a local player that has been offering bats on the state USSSA website. It looks heavy on the clearcoat. It also has a few ripples on the handle. The knob doesn't look quite right and there is a rough edge at the endcap. Has anyone run into this? Any comments are appreciated.

Some very good thoughts. The only problem with this is that I don't personally know of anyone that would want to give up their at bats and only play defense. I do know of a lot of guys that would gladly give up playing 'D' and only hit.

Another bad idea. If you think safety is the issue, simply play a little deeper. At our age, do you really want to add to the distance that you have to run? If you want to play with bases farther out and leading off and stealing allowed, there are senior hardball leagues that you can join.

The Miken U2 is allowed in SSUSA for the nationals in Vegas. Check the bat policy in the upper right hand corner.
