Discussion: Menifee Qualifer

Does anyone know the order of finish for the Menifee qualifer played last weekend and this weekend? Especially interested in the men's 50, 55, & 60.

The runner cannot attempt a steal until the pitched ball crosses the plate. The runner can at that point lead off. This is just another thing for the umpires to get screwed up. The bottom line is that not that many bases are ever stolen at this age level given the lack of speed of most senior players. It adds about as much excitement to the game as watching a strawberry heal. Leave the game alone. NO STEALING!! No moving the bases any farther back. Pity some of the poor third basemen that can barely throw the ball to first with the bases at their current 65' setting.

ISA has always allowed base stealing. I have played in several of their tournaments with the youngsters and in the ISA senior worlds in Vegas two years ago. I personally don't like it at all and think that it takes away form the game, especially at the senior level. Your catcher better be very mobile behind the plate because he/she will work their behinds off. I guess that I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to screwing with the game too much. In the early 80's they made some changes in to the game in the interest of "safety". The bases were moved from 60' to 65'. The pitchers rubber was moved from 45' to 50'. Metal cleats were banned. Great rule changes at the time. I've been playing this game that we all love for over 35 years now and think that we ought to leave it alone. Every one that walks on the field knows that there is always that possibility of injury of one kind or another. Well, I've kind of gotten off track here. NO BASE STEALING. That's my two bits worth.

Good comments and good suggestions. The WA USSSA, www.usssawa.com, has a great message board. As long as a subject is active, it bumps to the top after each reply. It also shows you how may people have read the message as well as how many have replied. I will make these suggestions to Scott Flodin the web designer for this site.

Not sure what part of the country you're from but, here in the Seattle area we're barely getting our season started in June. Too wet, too cold.
