Private parks make some of their money by having a gate fees and selling hot dogs. I ran
a tournament at Fort Knox for two years and
the guy that had the fields rented from Fort Knox had other tournaments at the same time as mine. He charged me a little more to rent the fields but no gate fee, each player showed is
SPA card and could bring a freind--He charged
Mon & Dad coming to his tournament a gate fee.
They have to pay those guys to fix the feild after it rains

Who won the 70's?????????????

Discussion: Why give an award if it doesn't reflect outcome

In most cases SSUSA & SPA do not put any money into the
tournaments, in fact a TD must pay them a fee for each
team. They sponsor some of the big tournaments but most
tournaments are paid for by your fee or out of the TD's
pocket.

Discussion: I never dreamed it would be this hard to start playing again.

My last full year of playing was 1959 in high school---
I started senior ball at 65---took three full years, including winter work to get back to a level that I was not embarrassed to take the field

Had some tournaments in the past---you try to keep the cost down when you can---option--do you have two umpires
at each game or do you gives awards??? If you run a tournament with 50,55,60,65,70 that' 5 x $75=$375 for
a plague or $12 x 15 x 5=$900 for a nice printed shirt.
At my last tourmanment I did both--umpires and awards and it cost me $600 out of my pocket--I do not tournaments any more----also you always have one some
times two teams that bitch about everything--if the sun
come up late it's TD fault-if another team is late coming to a game, etc
I do not do tournaments any more
Wes--passed TD

Gary-there are some rule that are made because there are still some out there that do not want to play it as a game but must show 'who ever' how good/great/etc. they are.
I played high school and college football no broken bones--
I was catching in a Church league and this guy wanted to
show off for his girl friend and ran me over coming home and
broke my collier bone

Discussion: What makes a tournament a national tournament

Steve--I played with Jim & Joe years ago---will you all have
a full team this year????How many tournaments are you going
to this year?????
To ansewer your question----a true National Tournament is
developed over time--they start out local and if they are
run good--like Dalton, they get larger and teams come farther
away that make them National
Wes
PS I gave up on Jim Boys 70 last year and will play for
ABC 65 in Nashville and Wells Fargo 70 out of St Louis

Discussion: pitching screen

Gary19--we all need to hope that someone does not make a claim. Heres how the lawyer will make his case--you
tournament director knew that the bats
were "hot" and you let them use them---
you tournament director use a "hot" ball
that you knew could hurt someone and you
tournament director did not provid the
protection "The screen" that was avaible
so there for I got your house any anything elese that I want
