I've had my RL for about 3 weeks now and have ovTh 300 hits on it. after around 200 it started really opening up. the ball jumps through the infield and carries well when I get some backspin on it. I normally use the Dudley 12 inch but like the RL just as much if not better. If you get one, be patient as it takes awhile to get used to the extra weight in the end. And, as previously reported, go down in weight.

Gary - Great idea but the league rules makes the pitcher pitch from the rubber.
Mike - It makes no difference who pitches. He has already made that known. There are three solutions; stop playing, remove him from the league or do what we currently do....walk him. We are not willing to quit because of one person, the league won't do anything, so the third solution is the most logical in our opinion.

Q19 - this player is not a senior player. He plays on an open division tournament team and is talented enough to hit the ball nearly where he wants to including those 350 foot shots with an ASA bat. It's just not worth taking the risk to pitch to him since the umpires and league director won't do anything about it.

Bruce - In a local open league, there is a player that has verbally threatened to hit the pitcher in the head. The league won't do anything about it so consequently he is walked intentionally ever time he comes to bat. He doesn't like it and has "refused the walk", so the umpire has instructed the pitcher to just throw pitches he can't hit until he walks.

According to the rules, is it permissible for a batter to refuse an intentional walk and make the pitcher throw 4 balls to him after the umpire has been notified that the defensive team is intentionally walking him? Is the rule any different for ASA than Senior softball?

Congrats to Prime Time for their first place finish in the 65 AAA tourney this week. They are a really good team and a class act. I also would like to say that the umpiring at Desert West was probably the best group of umpires that I have witnessed in any tournament that I have played in. Thank you so much for making it not only fair, but fun for all involved.

Our AAA team is moving up to 65 after the World Masters this year and need a few players to augment our team. You must turn 65 or more during 2016. All positions are open. If you would like to join an established team, please email me at:

Discussion: New 2015 combat centenarian short barrel

Has anyone tested the 2015 combat centenarian short barrel bat? It is silver with blue lettering. I use the white short barrel and really like it but they are getting hard to find at 27 oz. Was wondering if the new bat's performance is the same and if it is the replacement for the white bat. I see that the barrel on the new bat is 10 1/2 inches vice 10 inches.

Discussion: Las Vegas Fields and Umpires

We played at Shadow Rock Friday and the outfield was embarrassing. Weeds and uneven grass throughout. The umpire we had had no idea what the rule was for being out of the batters box or how many bases to award once the ball went out of play. Teams waiting to play were laughing at him he was so bad. BLD was great aside from playing at 4:30 with the sun directly over the pitcher. Hard to see while hitting for both teams. No issues with the umpiring crews at BLD.

Discussion: Reviews for COMBAT DIRTY BAT

I bought two 27 oz. end loaded dirty bats in February. I used one for BP using the tried and true break in method of 25 swings with 50% effort, 25 more with 75% effort and then taking full swings. It broke in very nicely and now am using it mostly for games. I have around 550 swings on it and it is performing great. The other is sitting in my closet. I'll start breaking it in tomorrow.

Discussion: Catcher's verbal interference

Just to clarify, it was in a co-ed league, a female was catching and she was saying "there it is" as the pitch was coming in. This has been allowed for many years by all the umpires and suddenly it is verbal interference?

Discussion: Catcher's verbal interference

Before our game the other day, the umpire told our catcher that they couldn't say anything from the time the pitcher released the ball until it either hit the ground or the batter hit it. By doing so, it would constitute catcher's verbal interference and the batter would be awarded first base. Now, like most of us, I have been playing since I was old enough to walk and we all used to chatter during most every pitch. "Hey better, batter, SWING" was the norm. And that was when a little kid was trying to hit a pitch from another kid who had no idea where his pitch was going.

Any ideas out there?
