Guys,

First I want to thank everyone for all the calls, texts and emails I received over the last few days. More importantly I want to thank everyone for your prayers.
I had a procedure done on my bladder and had three growths biopsied last Monday. I had to wear a catheter for 7 days until I met with my doctor today. Great news is that all three growths were benign. No cancer!!!!!!!!!!

God is Good All the Time!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to see some of yall in Dalton this weekend.

Again thank you for your support and prayers.

Our God still answers prayers.

Lefty and Bruce,

My 50 team, Adiktiv Sports, is getting the same treatement for the Marietta tourney that we play in every year. Can't come because we are Major plus. Major plus is the kiss of death as far as getting tourney directors to let you play. I promise Major plus players love to play as much as AAA and major plus players.

The only way to solve the problem is to combine major and major plus into one division, they do it in ISSA and there doesn't seem to be a problem. Not much difference in the two.

Working on putting on some tourneys just for major and major plus teams with some different rules. Tourneys for players by players. Put the fun back in the game, old school.

I'm just saying.

Trump Stote is a terrible ball here in the South in the summertime. Heat and humidity here in the South kills the ball in the hot summer months.

Discussion: suggestions to stop all the complaining about home runs & dead ball outs

Modi,

A lot of good ideas but this won't happen as the real reason for the rule change is to SHORTEN THE GAMES and make all teams EQUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would have thought that with such a RADICAL rule change that more input from the players, the guys who play the game,
would have happened.

A survey at sign in at Las Vegas would have been the ideal time for one. Biggest Tourney of the year and an easy check, like or not like the DBO. That would have been nice.

Any suggestion for changes to the rule won't even be addressed by the powers to be. We will all have to live with new rule. It is their organization. They can make whatever rules they want without input from the players.

Wish we had a senior organization that would at least ask the players what they want and like instead of a 12 person committee making decisions for thousands of players.

I'm just saying.

Dolfan,

If you love to hit them then why do you love the new rule??

What team do you play with??

Turbo,

I agree with you, never played with a bomb dropper who wanted or liked the DBO.

Dolfan,

Expressing and opinion is not whining. Most of the guys I play with were bomb hitters in their younger years. Don't hit as many now as I used to but still like to swing away..

When I started senior ball we used aluminum bats and good balls. Wish we could go back to that.

Just wish the powers to be would have surveyed the players before making such a big change in the rules.

I have played softball since 1970 and a homerun has always been a big part of the game even with wood bats.

Perl,

thanks for the highlights from the newsletter.

1. if one of the reasons is to shorten the chasm then why not just make one division???

2. seniors do not have the reaction times of guys 30 years younger than we are. balls being hit down hard are going to increase injuries to players especially pitchers hence the new rule that pitchers must wear a mask. the young guys are better equipped to protect themselves. Ask any of the young pitchers why they wear a mask and they will tell you after the hrs are gone then the middle is open.

3. DBO will discourage hrs and will .encourage balls hit down and hard by a lot of players who hit the ball really hard!!

In closing the Senior game is not the same game that is played by the younger players. They all play 5 infielders, rarely seen in senior ball. they hit stadium balls. Also the young guys will tell you that their favorite tourney is the Smoky Moutain, as they can hit all hrs they want, no DBO's, just softball.

I'm just saying.

Tim,

I play with Paco, adiktiv 6, and he is the real deal. Is your team going to come the east coast for any tournaments this year?? I have played against the mtc teams for years. They usually come to Dalton for the SPA nationals. Would love to see you play.

Also I agree with "the kid", more injuries with the new rule.

Turbo,

Great hearing from you on this issue. I have played senior ball for 11 years now and have seen it all. SSUSA had the DBO rule a few years ago and also had to put in the rule if you hit the pitcher you were out.

They, SSUSA, know that this will increase the balls hit up the middle after the HR's are gone. Hence the facemask rule.

Again why change when things were going good?? It is not about what the players like or want it is about SHORTENING THE GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen what you can do when you hit the ball down while playing first base. Did not like it then and hate to see it when you have to because of DBO.

Keep hitting it Big Man.

See you soon.

Marv 19,

Can you give me the info on the Protestation tourney you were talking about. I am sure you won't be playing in it.

Sounds like a great tourney to me. Probably have to turn teams down.

2 hour games sound great to me. I come to play..

BOBatbrkr,

I would like to see the 400 ft. homeruns myself.

I play on a pretty good 50 team and hit with a monster and he hits it as far as anyone and sometimes he hits it 400 but not all the time. 400 is used a lot on this site but it is rarely done.

5 ft. 100 pounds hitting it 400 I would like to see.

Senior bats have changed the game though, when I started playing 11 years ago with the Florida Crush team, we only had 4 or 5 guys who hit homeruns. The first ultra really changed the game, our base hitters on the Crush now became hr hitters every now and then. Hurt our team.

I'm just saying.

Discussion: Teams leaving SSUSA?

Paco and perl,

Getting bumped up is not the reason our Adiktiv team won't play SSUSA, not matter what Tim says. Our decision is based on PRINCIPAL. We choose not to play because of the DBO rule. If enough teams did the same they would listen to us. Guarantee that there will be a rash of pitchers hit this year because of the DBO. That is a proven fact

Maybe it is time for another senior softball organization, one that listens to the players and is not just interested in shortening games and making money.

Tim there are very few Major plus teams on the eastcoast and south. We will be spotting 5 runs or and extra fielder in most of the tourneys we play.

Again we choose to play where we can have some fun.

USSA looks like a good possibility and again maybe a new organization.

Merry Christmas

Perl,

Thanks for always having my back. haha

I am trying to be kinder and gentler in my old age. haha

DBO was a bad rule a few years ago and is a bad rule now.

I would like to be present when you meet the guy from the other post in south florida. haha

The truth is I have still not talked to one major or major plus player who likes the DBO rule.

Our 50 team got bumped to major plus in SSUSA and SPA. I say good for us even though we won't play SSUSA tourneys this year.

We will see how many east coast and southern teams travel to Las Vegas to play. Probably not many.

Glad to hear our 60 major plus team doesn't have to break up just because won Las Vegas 2 years in a row. SSUSA will probably make that rule too in the future.

Make everyone equal, sounds Communist to me.

Freedom is what makes America great.

Merry Christmas.

Can't wait for the season to begin.

Tim,

Hope to see you and meet you somewhere on the softball field.

I can't believe that all your teammates want the DBO, on a major plus team.

The guys I know, who I play against in the 60 major plus division don't like it and they are west coast guys.

This is a team sport and any contribution by anyone on the team that helps the team win is the main goal.

Again wish I was a complete player but I'm just an old guy trying to hang on to the game I have played and loved for so long. Playing with a good 50 team at 61 is a real pleasure, which I probably wouldn't have unless most of the team were by best friends.

Just want to play and have some fun.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

Discussion: Why Not Have A Players Committee Of Real Players To Over See The Rules

Tim,

Ain't no body on my 50 team scared to play any team. WE played a couple of Major plus teams in tourneys last year and we did not follow the rule of taking 5 runs or an extra fielder, we played them straight up. Close games but we lost.

I will say this everyone on our team can hit it down, just choose not to. We have been moved up by SPA also.

Sorry that you think that because we choose not to play that we have a team of incomplete players.

We will be playing the top level this year and will play where we can have the most fun. At my age having fun and competing at the highest level is what is important.

I am not probably what you consider a "complete player" but I try real hard to be.

Merry Christmas

Tim,

Not complaining about the move to major plus just the DBO.

If this was what was really good for the game it would have never been changed to a single 2 years ago. Why keep changing the rules??

Our 50 team was not the only team averaging a lot of homeruns. Thus my thoughts on combining the two divisions.

By the way I think our real powerful team finished 16 or there abouts out of 49 teams. Does that mean that all the teams that finished ahead of us in the world tourney should be moved up??

I think our team is just making a personal decision that they don't want to play DBO. This is America and freedom to make such choices is why we love this country.

Do you play with MTC 60's??

And another disagreement with you about only allowing us to have 6 players after our first win. Why not just try to make your team better instead of penalizing our team.

DBO penalizes players who can hit.

Merry Christmas

Tim,

For your info I play major plus on the Hollis-Rose 60 team, by the way we won Las Vegas the last 2 years.

The reason my 50 team hasn't volunteered to play major plus is that the tourneys here in the south don't give major plus teams a chance to play if there aren't any other major plus teams in the tourney.

By the way most of our guys can hit it down on the 60 team and my 50 team we just choose not to.

What division do you play in by the way??

There are probably 5 other teams here I the south that could play major plus in the 50 division.

Discussion: How about a discussion on ow we think dbos will effect our games? And our assumptions why.

Wish I could play all of those positions.

On my 50 team our pitcher was our shortstop a year ago, our third baseman played pro football, our catcher and eh also play in the outfield when needed. All are great fielders.

I play first base and not qualified as a big sloth but do qualify as the old man on the team at 61. LOL

Still run for myself, but after a torn Achilles tendon, but most think I am jogging. haha

There is a place in the game for anyone who has the heart and drive to play.

All of us can't be the all around players that others are we just do the best we can in the game we love.
