Sorry to disagree. I had two blue combats and they did not last 100 swings. One did not last 50! I did like the yellow bat.

Discussion: Please no more 8AM games SSUSA

I agree. I would reather have starting times up to 5:00 PM than need to get up and out before hotels serve breakfest. Two tourneys this year - we were done by 3:00 PM or so and the fields were open. One cost us all the finsih of the tourney due to rain on Sunday - Deleware! And they knew it was going to rain but did nothing to change the schedule either on Friday or Sat.

Lets face it; when we travel I think most of us like to go out for dinner and have a few drinks as a team. Who wants to get up that early to warm up for an 8:00 AM game.

Discussion: DMSO

DMSO is an odorless, tasteless solvent the is simply an effective carrier. It has no theropeutic action but carries the attached chemical through the skin and into the body. It was discovered by accident when it was spilt on a lab table top and came in contact with some mint (not sure if it was gum or candy, etc) while cleaning up the spill, when the chemist touched the solvent and tasted pepermint in his mouth. Therefore, great caution must be taken when DMSO is used because it will carry whatever it comes in contact with into ones body. Benefits of Chemistry 101 class - professor trevia from 1973.

Thanks for your comments. I just picked one up as a leftover. Some of my buddies used them in the past, but I never tried one. Looking forward to it.

You are correct. It is possible that when taking a few BP hits prior to a game in the early morning, the balls may hve come back slightly wet from dew. I ordered 2 more combats and they should come in this week. I will be very careful not to hit BP with these and use an ASA bat for that.

I had a Combat Centenrian - 30 oz endload. It broke after about 70 swings. I did like it while it lasted.

Discussion: Poor Mgt of a Tourney

This past weekend the Del (first State) tournament was cut short. The problem was not the weather on Sunday; that was forecasted well in advance. The problem was the short sightedness of the director. We stopped play on Friday afternoon at about 3:00 PM because no umpires were available; we stopped pay on Sat at about 3:00 for no reason. Sunday as predicted was rained out. Many teams checked out of hotels on Sat because they knew sunday was a wash.

Of course the director saved about 8 games (umpire fees) by not playing them out.

Discussion: Not sure what this is saying, but.......

It is my opinion that the bats are allowed to equal the field. If only ASA bats are allowed, then the issue of shaved or doctored bats come in and those that use them have a real advantage. It still happens in the younger leagues.

Discussion: An apology to Gary19

I remember some teams from NYC in tournaments many years (1980's) ago would try charging the mound. At first I, as a batter, thought something was wrong so I stopped and stepped out of the box. Then I realized how stupid he was and that made me mad. He counted on just that or counted on that I would not hit up the middle and drastically change my swing. So from that time on. if ever a pitcher did that, I would hit the ball just as hard as I could right up the middle. Of course I have not seen that since those good old days; when 38 oz Tennessee Thumper was the bat of choice.

You must be an idiot to do that! Yes, this struck a point with me. I don't know any of your names but I know I have played in tournaments since approx 1978 and I have never seen such a stupid thing.

Discussion: Bat Weight

I weigh about 240 and use a 30 oz endload. I have no problem with it. I just cnnot get the hang of the light bats. It must be a personnal preference. I know of several individuals that use 26 oz and they hit with power.

Thanks guys. I have used the one pinky stuck in between the bottom hand top two fingers and overlap the 3 remaining fingers on top of the bottom. We hit indoors but can't wait for the thaw to try it on the fence field. rain and 50s for this weekend.

Discussion: Over Lap Hand Grip

When at the TOC, a young man showed me the over-lapping hand grip. I tried it in the cages and it seems to work well but I have not tried it in the field as it is still to cold to get outside in NJ.

Does anyone have opinions?

Discussion: why is scoring down......

I am sure this happens to many other teams; early in the game with nobody on or one on base an individual intentionally does not try for an HR because the team does not want to waste them. If unlimited, anyone can swing away anytime. Also, for those that may feel like the need to go middle to avoid hitting a long ball; this would also help. I realize I am sounding like a power hitter but I am not. I do pitch from time to time and I would rather the power hitters have a different target. I just don't understand this HR rule. If anyone can expalin why it should be in place, please do so. Not trying to cause any arguements, but would like to hear opposing points of view.

Discussion: why is scoring down......

Omar,
I am in favor of the 5 run innings. It gets things moved along and the tournament on time. I am not in favor of the HR rule at any level. The HR is not that easy for me but I beleive putting a limit on it only masks the better team and prevents them from moving up to the next level.
Think about it, why is it necessary if we all want separation? I truely would like to know why it is in place. I also agree the unlimited inning provides the drama to the game and brings back those memories of fantastic finishes.

Discussion: why is scoring down......

I remember from younger years, softball scoring was always a thing of streaks. We would score 10 runs in one inning and none in the next. So yes the 5 run limit has an effect. Think about the times when a team scores 5 runs with either one or no outs? If unlimited runs per inning, those innings may turn the scoring issue; but it would also shorten the game due to playing time. I have always stated that if one wants true separation of team levels; allow unlimited homeruns at all levels. The game would be quicker (because the 5 run limit would be reached in less time) and the higher powered teams would move up more quickly.

Discussion: To the BOD of USA

I pitch from time to time. I wear chin guards but that is all. I don't mind batters using the whole field otherwise I wuold not pitch. It is customary for a batter to say sorry if one comes close but that is up to the individual sportsmanship. In practice games and BP our team uses a net and it does not get in the way so forget that arguement. Forget about it is an object wear player can get hurt and lawsuits can come of it.

If it is there, all players know about it and can initial a waiver. Just like pitchers do now for those that do not wear protective gear.

Bottom line is I have yet to see any batter intentionally hit at a pitcher.
