Jacker,

Have not heard of this ball for USSSA. I play and Ump USSSA so their change to 40/325 as of 2009 for all Men's divsions comes from good sources.

Since USSSA isn't big on Senior ball I can't see them having a "special ball" 47/450 for Seniors.

I would be in favor of a standard ball for Seniors,. Trump Micro Cell 44/400. Good ball, durable, and plays well in heat. Don't think we need a 47/450.

Joe,

Of course utimately it's about the money. If these associations make changes that are not in the best interest of the masses it will show in the cash register. Simple.

Joe,

You might be refring to the 'Micro cell" ball. Softer feel than normal but still flies. Even performs well in the heat.
Have a few in my bag of B.P. balls, they are 44 core with 400 compression. I'll be in Manteca today look me up.

Note that in 2009 USSSA is going to the 40 core 325 compression ball in ALL divisions. Exception being the Major World Tournament where they use the ZN. This is in response to the shave/rolled bat situtaion that's troughout the young man's game. The City of Tracy went to this ball and ASA bats a few years back and their league enrollment dropped 80%.

We'll see if this trend gets to Senoir Softball. If it does just vote wiith you're wallet.

Discussion: Should Major Plus be combined with Major teams

Keep it simple.

Two divisions. Major and A.

Impliment rules to discourage sandbagging.

A = 1 hr one up single.
Major = 5 hr one up single.

1 and 1 count
5 runs per innining with open.
Middle rule.

Same bourdering and snow bird.

All 2008 teams that are Major Plus, Major, and AAA start the 2009 season in the newly formed Major division. Evaluations can be made at the mid-point of the season as to re-classification. Any team found to be purposely trying to lose a contest will be suspended for a year.

Discussion: Should Major Plus be combined with Major teams

Also tired of the travel only to find 2/3 team brackets. There should only be two divisions. Major and A.

All with 1-1 counts.
All 5 run max with open ining last.
All one up equalizer, singles.
All middle picther safety rule.

Major 5 Home Runs.
A 1 Home Run.

As a 50 Major Plus player I could live with these rules and divisions. Brackets would have more/different teams. These rules make it harder for teams to run away from each other. Hitting and defense.

Palm Springs in November.....2009 season.

Hey Joe...Stick with one team you wouldn't have those roster problems.....LOL

Had knee relacement Oct 2006. Playing 50 Major Plus outfield/infield. So far so good. You must keep your weight down and get into a workout program to keep flexibility and range of motion.

Discussion: Description of a Major Plus Player.

Combine + and Major. 10 homeruns and singles. Middle rule as used 2008. 7 runs oer inning, open inning. 44/375 ball. One runner per inning.

As a "Major Plus" I feel I can adapt to any rule in any association. Most players I see at this level can do the same.

The highest levels of pre-senior softball don't have unlimited homeruns, do we really need this?. Run limits will let all teams have a chance to win. Limiting runners wil for teams to have "complete' players or a large roster.

PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!

Discussion: SSUSA Announces Major-Plus Task Force

The DBO after the homerun rule is the biggest contributer to blast up the middle. Go to singles after allotted home runs with runners "must be forced" to advance. Even if you reduce the amount of allowable homeruns per level go to the single rule.

The game you refer to was Mac II and Bully's. I thouhgt Bully's behavior was embarressing. It came from the entire team, but their four hitters display was extremely poor.

You maybe right as it's a "no win" for them playing a 50 team, but their on field antics neeed to be addressed by SSUSA.

Joe,
I agree about the out rule after the home run. Exposes the middle. Keep the middle rule and go to singles this would give the pitcher optimun protection.

Discussion: Palm Springs

The wind the entire weekend played hell on any fly ball hit in the outfield/infield. Saw a lot of balls hit the ground.

Didn't have any problems with the Blues, thought they did a good job overall.

When we (MAC) played the Mavericks the "new" rules didn't really change the game at all. Couple of situtations the middle rule should have been called but wasn't. Homerun rule was a non issue.

After the second game which being tie one apiece, Terry told us our 6:30 pm winner take all game was being moved to a 9:30 pm start both teams declined and called it a tie.

I think the new rules will influence the Major Plus tournaments as far as SSUSA is concern. Teams that are all homerun and lite on defense may find themselves struggling a bit. Solid defense and timely homeruns may be the way to win in SSUSA Major Plus.

Discussion: OK You Gym Rats Out There

I also after knee surgery was able to return to the gym. I do programs 4 days a week. Free weights, machines, treadmill and bike. Dropped 22 pounds, re-shaped my body, improved my mobility.

Playing outfield in Seniors (Major Plus) I see a noticeabe difference later in games and tournaments. My lower half is stronger, fresher. My game stays at a higher level much longer than before.

Playing with the young guys three nights a week (uppers) and the occassional tournament with the same group I found that my workouts help me not only stay on the field with guys 25 years my junior, but out perform most of them using USSSA equipment.

I love the competition, and love it at a high level. I've committed to putting the time in. It's not for everyone,
