Discussion: New rule on shaved bats

This topic is a double edge sword. A lot of players are saying they want Senior Softball to do something about all the shaved bats and when they do, players are up in arms. People are aware of the rules and if you get caught, you have to take the punishment that comes with it. You know when that base hitter, turned into a homerun hitter and hasn't spent any time in the gym (something is going on). If you have that is not that muscular, with not much bat speed but the ball is leaving the yard(Something is going on). I study the game and I can tell the majority of the time if a bat has been to the barbershop for a shave and a haircut. I play 3rd base and Shortstop and I actually look at batters size and bat speed when he is at bat. If he is generating good bat speed and has good technique he is supposed to hit ball hard. If the batter doesn't have a lot of bat speed and he is hitting the ball a long ways (something is not right). If you have the big monsters hitting it is harder to determine if the stick is shaved. The only reason I am even responding to this is because this is something to look for when you suspect someone on your team is swinging shaved. I never call player out on other teams, but I see it.

Discussion: Partial knee replacement

I didn't have a partial, I had both knees fully replaced at the same time in December of 2018 and I was back out playing in March of 2019. With a partial you should be able to play without any major issues. I just played this weekend in Utah and I play short stop. I can run and play without pain now. The mobility is a little different, but remember I had full replacement.

Discussion: Southwest Tournament

I am playing 55 Major at BLD and the bracket shows the first bracket game starts at 8pm Friday night for all teams except the top 3 seeds, is that correct? I don't think I ever played a first bracket game that started that late.

Discussion: Off Season Surgery

I had both knees replaced last year at the same time on December 4, 2018. I was able to get back on the field in 3 months. Movement was a bit unstable. Since I had both knees at the same time I had to retrain myself to balance properly, you have to learn how to run again. With both knees you don't have the same mobility that you had before.

On a positive note there is no more pain in the knees. I no longer have to wear the bulky braces I use to wear.

If you are only have one knee done, it shouldn't be as bad because you will have the good leg to assist the new knee with the rehabilitation.

Good Luck

Discussion: ASA stamps and newer bats etc

They are out there, you just have to enter ASA bats when you search. Since most of the ASA leagues went to the 52/300 compression balls they have made the ASA bats hotter. Most ASA bats now will have the ASA only stamp. If you use the new bats with 44/375 balls the bat will last approximately a season or so depending on how hard you swing. I ended up damaging 2 before they went to the low compression ball.

Discussion: 1999-2000 Miken Ultra 2

They did make an Ultra and it is an ASA bat and it should have a circle on the taper of the barrel and inside that circle it should read 2000. That was the first composite bat I every used. I think it was the first composite bat they made. We use to use them in Hayward CA during league play. That was around 2000. That bat was soon banned from all league play and tournament play (too hot).
