Discussion: Why I like softball.

Actually, I finish up last season with a 780 avg (my highest ever). Right now sitting on a .667 avg for 4 games (season just started). So I make my team more happier than the other team LOL.

I see 58 anonymous right now. I love the ones looking for a team, but leave no email or phone number. One guy I tracked down left no info, but he mentioned where he plays at and went to their website, and I located someone who knew him and got his number.

What I like about softball. When you come up to bat, you have a 50/50 chance of making people happy. If you get a hit, then your team is happy. If you get put out, then the other team is happy. The downfall of softball, You just can't please everyone at the same time. LOL.

Discussion: Bats

Thank you for the warning Cyborg. I do practice hitting once a week, so I should be able to break it in a month's time. I do have other bats I can use in league until the Big cat is broken in.

I got my Miken Big Cat today, I can't wait to try it out. It does have pretty black metallic paint. Too bad I am going to ruin the paint job by slamming line drives with the bat. LOL. I name her Black Bit_ _ because when I hit with her, it is going to be a bitch to stop. LOL.

Discussion: Senior Co-ed

Not a senior coed league, but I do play in a once a month tournament that all you need is 3 females (because female players are hard to get), you do have a choice to play more females. The two differences is they have a coed line that you can't cross in the outfield until after the ball is hit by a female. On males, you can be in front of the line. When the pitcher walks a male batter and a female is behind him, he goes to second base and she has a choice to either go to first base or go ahead and bat.

Discussion: face masks

I believe a pitcher only has .43 of a second to react to a hit (that is with most hitters). Now if you got a homerun hitter it is less then .43 of a second. Say if you had a homerun hitter who can smack the ball 330 feet with a non senior bat. He comes up to the plate with a shave and rolled senior bat, I bet no one will be able to get out of the way of that hit no matter how fast you THINK you are. Sure I could sue the guy for using an illegal bat, but that is not worth the pain I will endure getting several bones broken in my face. It is a good rule about the face mask, it protects those who can't make a good decision on their own. I hit a pitcher, but he had catcher shin guards when I was using a senior bat. I was not even though bringing the bat around finishing off my swing when the ball already hit him. I usually avoid hitting pitchers, but accidents happen. I am not even a homerun hitter, but I did get all of it. The ball was inches away before he even started flinching.

Discussion: face masks

I am a pitcher and don't have a problem with a mask. I have been hit in other parts of my body too many times. In my opinion, you have to be a fool not to wear one, I have seen some pics of pitchers who got hit in the face and not pretty. Maybe the rule is in place to protect those, who cannot protect themselves.

Maybe I can build a team, there seems to be a lot of free agents in Texas interested in playing. What is the cost?

I am so glad my other senior league had just passed a pitcher option to use a screen in league play. Sure I wear a mask and catcher's shin guards, but that don't protect the rest of my body. I hit a pitcher last week, but thank God he had on catcher's shin guards. I got all of it and it hit him so hard, the ball actually made it out to the fence.

Discussion: Where do you play during the winter month's?

I live in South Texas and winters are not bad here. If it is below 50, I don't use my senior bat. I use my Worth 454.

Discussion: Can you use a 2015 USSSA bat?

I have a Miken DC-41 that I used often and it is not a senior bat, I just love that bat. I do have a Dudley Lightening too. I use both. I start with the DC-41 and when the outfielders move up, I break out the Dudley and pound it over their heads.

I live in Houston area and really want to play in the Baytown Tour on Feb 20th. I am 56 years old. I can play anywhere but SS and 3rd (I don't have a good throwing arm). I am currently hitting high 600 avg in senior league and can put the ball to left or right field. My email is dancerclown@msn.com and cell phone is 713 859-3840 and I can received text messages.

Discussion: We still Play

Yea Hemi, I agree about still living. Ever since I join Senior League, I get messages about who is in the hospital and who died. Lets me know, at any time I could go. I just hope it is on a softball field.
Actually, the guys older than me are my inspiration. I look at it as "if they can still play, then maybe I can too".

Discussion: We still Play

Another senior player and I were discussing senior softball. He was saying it is amazing we can still play at 55. He was saying not very many people playing at our age. We live in Houston, an area of 4 million people. We only have 3 senior softball leagues that I know about, and only one of them have any kind of size in it, the other two are small. I still do play in younger leagues, but play in senior too. I am just thankful I still can play. I started playing at 29, and at the time I thought I would be through by 35. I was wrong, LOL. I just love softball and will play until I can't do it anymore.

Discussion: New Experimental Drug to expand life to 120 years of age

I was reading this article this morning about the drug that slows aging process and you can be physically active. I know the highest age division is 85+. But does this mean we can have a 110+ or a 115+ divisions now? Or just a 100+ division? I am 55, I am looking forward to 60 more years of softball LOL.
