Discussion: Should there have been a call

I'm just jealous that someone is playing softball right now. Who cares about the call?

My only comment on the play is that I appreciate Randall looking for feedback. That means you care and are trying just like the players are. I'll take an ump like you on my field all day long. Have a great holiday everyone!

Discussion: 2019 Adidas Red 2pc endload Melee durability...

I agree with NYTX, once you break it in just keep it as a gamer and be careful with it. We have one person on our team that hits it as hard as anyone and he seems to get about 400-500 swings on his. We both use a 28.5 oz though. Not sure if the heavier bats are more durable.

Congrats to Glen May and his squad. They put their work in to get there. They're nice enough to invite me to practice with them and I can tell you that they work hard to get better. It's good to see their effort rewarded. They're a great group of men on top of it.

Any issues with players or umpires being overcome with the heat? Hope everyone was OK and there were no issues.

Looks like the first 2 sessions for World Masters Tourney will be in St. George. This was taken from the tourney section of SSUSA site.

SSUSA has received notice from Clark County, Nevada, that the fields for the first three sessions of the 2020 World Masters Championships will not be available because of the new COVID-19 protocols established by the governor.

We will be moving the first two sessions of the World Masters (Men's 55 - 60 / Men's 65 - 85) to St. George, Utah for this year. We will post hotel information in St. George as soon as possible. Please be sure to make any needed lodging changes.

The two sessions will each be held over three (3) days: Men's 55-60 (Sept. 18 - 20) & Men's 65 - 85 (Sept. 21 - 23).

We are looking for alternative fields for the third session, the Men's & Women's 40, currently still scheduled for Sept. 25-27. We will update the men and women 40 age divisions as soon as we confirm alternative fields.

New Team. Thanks. They are checking to see if they can find who it is. I'll pass on your number if they get back to me.

NEW TEAM - Which age group for the Dudley team? They have 3 teams. I know a lot of those guys and can ask around but it would help to know if it was the 50, 55 or 60 team to narrow it down.

Discussion: Rogers ARK TOC (early July)

It will be interesting to see how many teams end up playing in Rogers. Most we spoke with in our division said they are not going. It does seem like there were more teams when this TOC event was in Shawnee, KS. The fact that the fields (more specifically outfields) in Rogers are terrible is another reason to skip it.

On the other hand, if you're looking for good odds of qualifying for the TOC, this may be good for you.

Discussion: schedule of game times at 60's Missouri open, june 6&7, won't ever play their again

King: I agree with the walk to the parking lot and that stinking hill. Tough way to end the day but the thought of the beer waiting for me at the top was enough incentive to make it.

NYTX: There were no issues that I saw related to the COVID-19 rules. It all went pretty smoothly. Umps wore face shields and catchers wore masks. It was super hot and humid so it was hard on those who wore any face protection. For the most part most people just got within about 10 feet after the game and talked instead of the typical high five/good game routine. Some officials were a little more interested in the particulars than others but overall it seemed like a normal tournament. I'm thankful that we got to play and to see a lot of friends from all over the Midwest.

Hopefully everyone gets to start their tournament season soon.

King - Playing later wasn't an advantage for us. Our first game was at 11 on Saturday. We played immediately after that, had a one game break and then had another back to back. That was brutal on us. We then played 4 straight starting at 10AM Sunday. I would gladly have traded places with you and enjoyed some breaks and cooler temps but overall I was just happy to be playing and getting to see a lot of friends that I haven't seen for several months. It would have been nice to not have the mid 90s, high humidity for the first tournament but that's the way it goes.

CRASH - All signs are that it is a go. They are playing leagues there now. The tourney director for that one is the same as the MO Open which is being held as we speak. I guess nothing is 100% these days but there doesn't appear to be any reason that this could/would be canceled.

Discussion: Which bat to buy?

Wood...I need to swing one of the Melee's to get a basis of comparison. Based on feedback that I hear, they are the best bat out there. I have a teammate that just got a 26 ox Parnell. He hit my 28 last week so I'm waiting to hear from him if there is a difference. Hopefully we get to use one of these in an actual game soon.

Wood_1966: Just curious...what weight is the Parnell that you're swinging? I'm swinging a 28 and am getting really good performance from that bat. I keep looking for a reason not to like it based on all of the recent feedback but the bat has really performed well so far. I agree that it feels different and you don't feel any flex in the handle or the barrel on contact but I've been hitting bombs with that bat. Had a teammate swing it as well yesterday and he did the same. I agree that it doesn't seem to "break in" but it still performs well. We were hitting balls from close to the backstop (about 15' behind home plate) on a 305' fence with a decent wind coming in and were clearing the fence by a lot. I'm wondering if the lighter weight bats just don't get the same result.

For what it's worth, I had a second round of BP with the Easton Parnell model. As noted before it is a STIFF bat but performed well. I'm getting the same distance with that as my broken in Miken Ultra II (black bat with green letters that's about 4 years old). It feels very different but performed well for having less than 100 swings on it. I'm not sure that I'll switch from my Mikens yet but it will be in the bag. I only have 2 of those Mikens left and I don't see any for sale so I'll need to switch to something when they go.

That's very nice of you to do Jack. I'm not finding many of my team but I am finding ones for friends here in St. Louis. It looks like the download button is gone from 2016 and earlier.

Hopefully we can start playing ball soon and get you back to work as well!

Discussion: Which bat to buy?

I have never been an Easton fan but I did buy the Parnell model of the Empire based on the Smash it Sports review. I've only been able to take BP twice based on our current environment but I thought the bat was as good or better than anything that I've hit with to date. It has less flex than I'm used to but it performs great right out of the wrapper. I was hitting balls out into the wind the first time I used it. I have no idea on durability at this point though.
