Feb. 25, 2016 AcePV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Are possible changes ahead for future TOC tournaments I have heard rumors that the current contract for the TOC in Florida is up this year. Don't know if that is true or not but in SSUSA considering a change in location for future tournaments when the current contract does expire? |
Sept. 8, 2015 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Vendors at The Worlds Just wondering if there are many vendors that sell products and equipment at the Worlds? Where are they normally located? |
Aug. 31, 2015 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Question regarding Senior Recreation Leagues Thanks for the responses. It sounds like most leagues don't have 40+ players playing with 60-70+ year old players. |
Aug. 31, 2015 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Question regarding Senior Recreation Leagues Just wondering if many senior rec leagues around the country allow the use of 1.21 bpf bats or are they restricted? Also, another question is at what age do senior rec leagues typically begin? Thanks! |
July 27, 2015 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Question regarding Senior Recreation Leagues As a pitcher and infielder I must agree with tg69. Where does the madness end? As seniors, does crushing power and ego's trump safety and sensibility? We recently had a pitcher in our rec league suffer a broken wrist from an extremely hard hit line drive. I understand tri is pushing the durability of the new "Miken" but also how "hard" the bat hits. |
July 14, 2015 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: VEGAS FIELDS I appreciate the effort and hard work staff does in putting together such a huge tournament as the Worlds. It's too bad that Vegas Parks and Rec or whoever can't help out a little by simply not scheduling games on the Friday or Saturday nights needed for the tourney. After all, they are only rec games for goodness sakes that are played every week. |
Dec. 28, 2014 AcePV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Anyone tried the Combat Dirty two-piece bat? Does anyone have any experience with the 2015 Combat 2Dirty G3 Balanced 2-Piece Senior Softball Bat? I've had the two-piece Twilight before any didn't like it at all. Just wondering if it's the same bat or better? |
Aug. 29, 2014 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: toughest position Having played both corners and pitch, I would say pithing is the position that the player is most apt to be injured by a hard hit ball. As for "toughest" position I would have to say outfield probably takes top spot. It's a lot easier to run in and out to the infield every inning vs. the outfield, not to mention having to chase down the hits that get through the infield (fly and foul balls included); especially when you're playing multiple games per day. |
May 7, 2014 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Pitching masks revisited Wayne 37- You're right! We all love to use these "high powered" bats so that we can hit like we did when we were younger. There's a lot of "old guys" out there that are hitting the ball harder and farther than much younger guys that are using 1.20 bats. The problem is we don't move and react on the defensive side like we did when we were younger. |
May 4, 2014 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Pitching masks revisited I started using the Rip-It mask while pitching nearly two years ago. I really like it and don't notice it having any affect on my vision or ability to react to a ball. I guess it all comes down to personal preference whether you like 'em or not. |
Jan. 20, 2014 AcePV | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: where are all the pitchers INHOC2: I agree with you completely, except I started wearing a mask two years ago before taking one to the face. This year I started wearing chin guards for the exact reason you stated. Lastly, I can accept someone saying "sorry pitch" the first-time they hit back at you, but the second time they do it in the same game just pisses me off to know end. Once OK, twice it's no accident. |
Jan. 14, 2014 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Is Pitching Mask mandatory dantheman. I've tried the plastic type mask and it was horrible. I felt my vision WAS compromised and the glare of the clear plastic could be just plain awful. Besides, I don't think the plastic mask is as safe as a good quality metal mask such as the Rip-It. I've used the Rip-It for over a year now and I won't pitch without it. It is black in color so there is no glare, and the metal is thin enough in diameter that it DOES NOT hinder your vision on a ball that is hit directly back at you in my opinion. |
Jan. 10, 2014 AcePV | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: where are all the pitchers I agree with the idea of removing the pitching rubber for safety reasons. I have been pitching for quite some time now and although I wear a mask, the ball hitting the rubber and coming up and nailing me is my biggest concern. Some of those rubbers can sit pretty high above grade and not always level. You just can't predict where the balls going to go if the ball hits it. Some fields even have two rubbers in front of the pitcher to worry about. |
Jan. 8, 2014 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: So tired of reading about HR's and DBO's. Agree with it or not, the decision has been made and now it's the law. We now need to give it a season to see how it all shakes out. If proves to be a terrible decision then let's petition next year for rule changes. |
Jan. 7, 2014 AcePV | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: where are all the pitchers Probably not what people want to hear, but until you see someone smashed in the face and not wearing a mask maybe you'd think differently. I've known three pitchers over the years that were hit in the face. Two went to the hospital with serious injuries. I've been wearing a Rip It mask for a couple of years now and I don't think it hinders my vision at all. Before the Rip It I wore a plastic mask that was really terrible. Would I prefer to not use a mask? You bet I would but I don't think not wearing a mask is worth the risk. Do I think it should be the players choice whether to wear a mask? You bet! |
Dec. 29, 2013 AcePV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Shaved Bats I've heard that during a tournament, if a player is injured enough to have to leave the game after being hit by a batted ball, the umpire is supposed to immediately confiscate the bat for testing? Is that true? If so, and the bat is found to be altered then I think a lawsuit would be quick to follow. |
Dec. 27, 2013 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: face masks My chin pad came off so I did a one-time fix that will probably last for years and it was cheap and really simple!.......a little Gorilla glue!! I just glued it and let it sit overnight. Don't use too much because it does expand. Good luck. |
Dec. 26, 2013 AcePV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: face masks Rip-It metal mask is an excellent mask that provides great safety and good visibility; and you can easily wear sunglasses no problem. I would suggest that you stay away from the plastic type masks for safety reasons. |
Dec. 25, 2013 AcePV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Time to eliminate senior bats If a homerun is an out and you're a "crusher", why go to the plate with a 1.21 bat with the hopes of not ripping the pitcher, or another infielders head-off, when you know you have to hit down on the ball? I'll bet nearly every player out there has two or more bats in their bag. |
Dec. 17, 2013 AcePV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Time to eliminate senior bats Interesting reading all the posts both Pro and Con for getting rid of Senior bats. The one's that get me the most are the one's saying that if Senior bats are banned we will start seeing more rolled and shaved bats like the "young guys do." We are all "senior aged players" and we all should be mature enough to play the game without cheating. Are ego's on some ADULTS that important as to risk serious injury to others just so they can try and prove something or to feel superior to someone else? |
