Thank you for your reply Dave- I understand it is late to make any major changes

I am not sure where the emphasis on my post was "smaller" bracket as I did my best to stress our (BPA) desire to play in bracket vs the other 55M+ team (DLB) considering the winner would represent the East in Vagas in the 55M+ division. Obviously DLB has the same desire based on the email you received. We all were hoping to keep it like last year where 50M+ had their own bracket and 55M+ had their own 3 team bracket...perfect!! why the change this year?

Dave-

Great timing on this as our BPA 55M+ team just returned from The ISA Tournament in Indiana this past weekend and this was a topic amongst our team as well as the manager player from the other 55M+ team (DLB) who will be attending Eastern Nationals this weekend. We all agreed that we would greatly prefer keeping the format of last year at Eastern Nationals where 50M+ and 55M+ were separate brackets while combining the 50/55 M+ teams in pool play on Friday. In other tournaments I would agree with you in combining the 50M+ and 55M+ teams in bracket play but with the winner in each age group representing the East in the World Championships in Las Vegas we all agreed that playing head to head against a team in our own age group at M+ level (direct competitors)is much preferable in bracket..even with just 2 teams playing best 2 out of 3. This would offer the best of both worlds by playing against different teams (albeit different age group) in pool play and then against direct competitors in bracket play with the opportunity to represent the East in our respective age and level. I am confident the same holds true for those teams playing in the 50M+ division

Thank you for all you do for Senior Softball Dave and for considering my post.

Regards,

GT

Firstbase14- there are no weeknight senior softball leagues that I am aware of. The other 2 leagues are Emass and Tewksbury and have waitlist. The RI Senior softball league plays on Sundays (doubleheaders). There are 3 or 4 divisions and offers the best competition. Google RI Senior Softball and you'll find it..good luck!

Discussion: Appeal From Vegas

SSUSA Staff

Monam33's appeal had absolutely nothing to do with Elmwood Sports being bumped to Major Plus. We earned the right to be bumped up to Major Plus by how we played in Vegas and we're proud of that fact. I have no idea why you/George would even consider bringing it up in response. The 2-run opening inning comment..really!?

Being from the East Coast we are sometimes out of the loop on certain issues/appeals (ie "Timmy's team"). All we have always been led to believe is that a team needs to play 3 tournaments to appeal a rating as stated in your rules. Understanding that the subjective component was selectively used in dropping Norcal TStruck back down to Major after 1 tournament motivated me look up the scores of that Tournament and I am hard pressed to see that they were so totally outclassed that they should not have even bothered showing up to play against other Major Plus teams..every team, including Elmwood, has a tournament where they just dont play up to their standards. My guess is, based on the talent we saw in Vegas, the Western Tournament may have been one of those tournaments for Norcal Thunderstruck.

I also played for Elmwood Sports this past weekend. I certainly hope that isn't true as well. thunderstruck was a great team and they seemed to be a solid group of men. I can assure you Elmwood Sports brought the team that was together all spring/summer long. There were no last minute additions or maneuvers..just a bunch a friends who love playing the game.

Elmwood Sports Center out of RI will be heading to the TOC in Polk County Florida next month to play in 50 Major. I was wondering what other 50 Major teams will be attending? Here's hoping there's a great turnout!

Gary- I will be heading down to the Villages from Boston to visit Mom on 4/14 evening thru 4/19 am. I am in same boat as you looking for some BP while down there before starting league play and heading to Atlantic Coast Championships in May. My kids arent particularly excited about throwing BP to their Dad when its the first real nice weather they've seen in awhile. Last year I watched the Div. 1 Championships on a Friday and then took BP later that afternoon when everyone cleared out. I think field was Saddlebrook. I would be interested in hitting with you on that Friday 4/15, if interested.

Discussion: SSUSA how can we get reclassed? MTC 50 2014 major Plus

We actually played very well in Syracuse. The difference between AAA and Major is hitting. Only 1 game did we hit all HR's (nice wind blowing out). All other games we hit 0, 1 or 2 Hr's as we always do as AAA. As far as last yr Worlds your numbers are correct..middle of the pack and a high of 38 runs and a low of 2 runs in 1 bracket game. Middle of the pack does not warrant a bump up. I agree SSUSA is doing the best they can and we love playing we're just wondering where their numbers came from where they say the reason we are being moved to Major is due to a +5.5 avg over 12AAA games when it is actually +.75 . If we were winning by that margin over last 12 games we would have won a couple of tourny's and most likely a top 10 in Worlds

Discussion: SSUSA how can we get reclassed? MTC 50 2014 major Plus

LeeLee50-I agree with your point about variables but one thing I have learned pretty quickly in my 2nd yr in Senior Ball is that results on a Friday or Saturday (Round Robin) many times are by no means a real indicator of the true quality of a team..The bracket games are the true indicator from what I have seen.

Our overall record was 3-3 in Syracuse with wins coming against a team that really should not be in Majors but they caught "lightening in a bottle" at Worlds last year and got the autobump and a round robin game against a major team that rested some regulars as they say.
As far players are concerned We lost a very good hitter(top 3 hitter) from last year who went to a Major team and we brought in 2 brand new to Senior Ball players (50 and 52) who are solid players but definitely not Major Plus players. We did not add anyone from higher divisions...

Again, this move up had nothing to do with Syracuse it came after the 3 team tourney in CT and winnning the "If" game against a local team...Syracuse only confirmed that we are AAA team

Discussion: SSUSA how can we get reclassed? MTC 50 2014 major Plus

Mr Nick-our team, Silva Advertising(K&B Construction 2014/McWorlds 2013), just got re-rated (50 AAA to 50 Major) as well one week before the Northeast Championships. We asked for an explaination on 7/1 and still have not heard back. SSUSA stated the reason we got moved up was due to "performance of +5.5 runs per game in 12 games against AAA".... problem is we are only +.75 runs in last 12 games against 50AAA(total + 9 runs). Numbers dont lie and they are posted on SSUSA site for last 12 games including 2014 Vegas where we went 3-3 with pretty much same team as last year in 2015+- a guy or 2. I figured they made a simple mistake with scrubbing the numbers...as did numerous teams we saw in Syracuse who feel we got a raw deal. Our goal was to have a great season and warrant the bump up to 50 major post Worlds. In 2015 We played in a very small local tournament (CT Masters) with only 3 50 AAA teams (1 new team and 1 local team) and we won our very first tournament ever in the "IF" game by 3 runs...we were moved up shortly thereafter.
We had to play this past weekend in the Northeast Championships in 50 Major and we were in way over our head when it came to bracket play( when it counts) losing by 10-16 runs range against the other experienced 50 Major teams. Unfortunately , as a team that has been together for 3 yrs, we agreed that we cannot compete at the 50 Major level without dismantling our team which is not what we want to do. We agreed that we cant see spending the $ to travel to vegas or any other tournament when you know you , realistically, dont have a chance to be competitive in the division you are assigned. Best of luck Mr NIck

I will be heading down to the Villages for the Easter Holiday weekend (4/3-4/6) and was hoping to get a few swings outside after a lovely winter in Boston where we will be lucky to get on any fields by 4/18. Any opportunities to hit with anyone before they close fields down after winter ball for maintenance? Thanks George

Tony-I agree..as this was not only my first visit to Las Vegas, it was also my first opportunity to play in a World championships of any kind. Being from the Northeast (Boston), and having the opportunity to gauge our team vs teams out west that are able to play year round was a great opportunity. The best part was participating and meeting guys from other parts of the country and watching some quality senior softball. I look forward to next years World Championships.
