Topic: General and miscellaneous
Discussion: how to win a ring

Thank God we live in a country where a person can express their views freely. There are times that a response is necessary especially when someone expresses their views incorrectly. On August 30th of this year a message was posted by an individual, the message was captioned ìhow to win a ringî. In this persons message some incorrect statements were made, in particular those statements regarding Mr. Hennessy and Mr. Ruth. In my view legitimate criticism is a good thing, but that criticism should be based on correct information. Neither Mr. Hennessy nor Mr. Ruth had anything to do with the team that played in Des Moines. Neither person was consulted in any manner and I should know as I was the coach of that team. The tournament was a SSWS tournament not to be confused with Senior Softball USA (SSWC). As a matter of fact I have only met Terry Hennessy on one occasion and that was at the 2005 Western Nationals in Kent, Washington. As far as Bill Ruth is concerned I think a message posted on September 12th, 2005 by a person named Fred says it very eloquently. I quote that message; ìSo go ahead and bash him, his organizations, and his teams all you want. Just know that there are very few people on the planet that have given as much to this game, that we all love, as much as Bill Ruth has.î As a postscript to this message, I just want to say that our team is a legitimate AAA team, we were pummeled by a Major+ team, the score was 30-9 and it ended after 4 innings. We did beat one team handily and they were an AA team. We were behind in all of our games played against AAA teams; I have the scorebook to prove it. We won the Championship game 8-7 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. I wouldnít say that we just ìwalked throughî the tournament, in my estimation we earned ìthe ringî and I applaud our team for their effort.
