I have had excellent results with two different brands of these type of shots. As for length of time they help, that would depend on the individual. I had also heard they only last about 6 months, but for me, this has not been the case at all. The first shot I had of Synvisc One lasted me a year and a half. Yep, 18 months. I would generally just go once a year and get the shot, one in each knee, because that was what my insurance company would cover. After using the Synvisc One for 3 years, the insurance company decided to not authorize refills of SVO, and I was forced to switch to another brand. Got a shot of that back in Jan, again was told it should last about 6 months, still haven't gone back for my refill. My doctor has said that I will need TKR in both of my knees, but as long as the gel works for me, I'm putting off any type of procedure. And just to add, I lead a very, and I do mean VERY, active lifestyle. The gels do not work for everyone, but I have been very happy with the results.
