Topic: Rules of the game
Discussion: out or safe

this situation occured twice in separate games. in one game the umpire ruled the runner safe; in the other game, the umpire ruled the runner out.

runner on first base and one out.. batter hits a ground ball up the middle which is knocked down by the shortstop. he grabbed the ball in his bare (right hand) and "crawled towards 2nd base, tagging th base with his glove (left hand).

we checked the rulebook and could not find this situation clearly defined.

what do you think? safe or out? can you cite the correct section of the ASA softball rule book?

Discussion: Rundown rule

in our league, a player can reverse oneself to try and return to a base. however the runner is out if the ball is thrown to the base and arrives before the runner. the runner does not have to be tagged out. of course, runner cannot slide or dive into any base.

Discussion: 45 And over softball in Connecticut

rod, you may know that the oldest senior league in CT (started about 13-14 years ago) is based in milford, ten teams in "A": group; (6) in "B". "A" leagues has several very competitive teams who might be willing to play some games with norwich teams during the summer. let me know of your interest and i could get coaches names and numbers.
