Discussion: nicest softball complexes

I second the fields in Aurora. All three complexes are grade A. Fences are about 320 due to the thin air. Balls still go out. The entire complex (soccer fields, etc) is gorgeous. Even the 14 mph speed limit captures your attention. Not so much of a great area as you drive wet into Aurora however.

Discussion: You make the call:

Upon an intentional walk, does the out of order batter who is intentionally walked then become the legal batter? I’m confused.

If that’s the case, why wouldn’t teams do that as soon as wrong batter is the the box and umpire has ok’d a pitch?

I’ll throw a kink into the scenario:
What if the batting out of order player comes to the plate, the defense knows he’s the wrong batter, intentionally walks him. Then appeals. Do we then have an out?

Discussion: Move Midwest Championship to St. Louis

Omaha would be the definition of Midwest. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are enough decent fields here to handle this tourney. It would, however, be the perfect location.

Discussion: Carrying bat to first base

If I get a hit to drive in the 5th run of an inning, I usually carry my bat to first base and touch. Many players do the same. As Dave has said, it's a non-issue. I'm more concerned about the left-handed batter who bats in front of me that drops his bat halfway down the first base line when we're the home team and I have to fetch it!

Discussion: Review of Missouri Open June 6-7

For our team, we played 6 games and all went 7 except for Game 1 (pool game). I don't think the new regulations were an issue on game time.

Discussion: Review of Missouri Open June 6-7

Hats off to getting this tournament scheduled as well as played. It was VERY much like a normal tournament. We are thankful to SSUSA and tourney director Will Rogers for getting us back to playing.

Here's the recap from my perspective:
1. Hotel
Stayed at the Hampton Inn. Things different. No breakfast anymore. No daily housekeeping. Other than that, OK. So no issues here.
2. Playing Fields at Rainbow Complex
One of the best complexes to play at. Infields and outfields in perfect shape (also hadn't been played on all year). No food at concession stand. There is decent shade available on all fields.
3. Teams participating
We are a 55AAA team. We had more teams in our bracket (8) than we've ever had. Nebraska, Minnesota, KC (2), STL (2), Illinois and Indiana. Actually played 6 of the 7 different teams.
4. Atmosphere
Again, seemed like old times. Quite a few spectators. Common sense ruled the day as far as physical spacing. Not too many mask wear-ers.
5. Game Play and SSUSA guidelines
Umpires were wearing a weird kind of plastic welder mask thing with heat indexes of 100 both days. I am not an ump so that's their deal. Catchers had to wear a face covering. Some used a surgical mask thing, others a bandana. Again, with 100 heat index temps, this one didn't make sense but glad we were playing. Wasn't really an issue in the big scheme of things but probably unnecessary moving into next month (IMO) Also the balls at the end of an inning had to be thrown back to the rack and "cleaned" before the next inning. This actually made no sense (in just about everyone's opinion). Columbia has huge dugouts. We had no issues spacing out. There were quite a few fist bumps like old times.
6. Scheduling
We're about a 5 hour drive from Columbia. We played early (0800) on Saturday. We do like early games as the weather is better early most times. The way the bracket worked out, we did have a 3 hr gap, but that happens almost every tournament. I can't say what the other team's game times were as it wasn't a concern or factor as far as what we experienced, but if teams played 2 before someone played 1 in the same bracket the heat could play a factor.
7. Forecast
Mostly sunny and looking forward to Tulsa then Rogers. From what is known, Oklahoma is farther along with "re-opening" than any state.

AHH, not so fast... To complicate matters, the Governor's Office clarified that the guidelines only apply to Youth baseball and softball.

Discussion: States "Re-opening" plans

Nebraska governor announced today that team sports, specifically Baseball and Softball, may be resumed in June with strict guidelines (such as those proposed by SSUSA). Beginning June 1, team practices may resume, and June 18, competitive games can be played. That is good news for our Senior league as well as a glimmer of hope for the tournament season. Nebraska is one of the few states that did not have house arrest orders.

Discussion: Net for Pitchers

The screen is optional in our Omaha league. If used, the pitcher must stay behind it until the ball is hit, otherwise it's an unfair advantage. Any hit ball hitting the screen is a dead ball, no matter what the count is. The screen is a pain in the rear when trying to gun a runner out at the plate. Any thrown ball hitting it during play is a live ball.

Not so sure on the Tulsa situation. This is from the same article TXNIGHTTRAIN listed. I assume we would be "organized sports activities"??

Second phase

If hospital and incident rates “remain manageable” for 14 more days following the implementation of Phase 1, Stitt plans to move to Phase 2.

Phase 2 allows nonessential travel to resume, along with organized sports activities. Funerals and weddings can be held with more than 10 people. Children and nursery areas in places of worship can reopen. Bars can open as long as there is diminished standing room occupancy.

The anticipation of the big reveal is real.
When I was a kid we got to open up a Christmas present early. Sooooo, how many 55 AAA teams so far? Omaha is one of them. Merry Christmas to me...maybe
