Aug. 4, 2021 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Pitchers. A bit insane? We have 2 pitchers on our team, we are also the 2 SS on the team. Having a pitcher that cant move or protect himself is a problem waiting to happen. Don't just stick a person out there because he can pitch or fill a spot, your pitcher can control the game. I know every team does not have the luxury to do this, but a pitcher that can field is a big plus. |
June 30, 2021 Dirtball | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: What's the correct rule and call Batter in the box, ball is pitched, batter hears "NO" from behind him but does not swing, thinking its coming from the ump, ball hits strike zone. The NO comes from the catcher not the ump. Is this catcher interference? is this no pitch? called ball for interference? or strike? Is this a written rule, or sportsman call ? |

Nov. 13, 2020 Dirtball | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Ft. Myers • Session #1 Look Back ... You have scores for the 70's thru 80's. I don't see any scores for the 65's. They all played at the same fields. ????? Still a great job getting games in. |

April 3, 2020 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: George's Dilemma Boots on the ground January 2, 1972. TAD orders from the 7th Fleet to Binh Thuy Vietnam, on the Bassac river, Mekong Delta to the Delta Naval Advisory Unit. I was a RM3, radiomen were in short supply in-country and I was assigned to 2 PBR's in support of a small SEAL Team. A year earlier the regular Brown Water Navy turned over all boats and supplies to the South Vietnam Navy. Now I was an adviser, with no experience. It was early February morning, we were having breakfast when the base came under attack. The enemy was lobbing motors into the base, with some small arms fire at the wire. As we ran out of the mess hall, a mess cook, a solid 6' 225 lb (running back) ran over an Army Major and just flattened him. Dislocated the Majors shoulder and broke 2 ribs. Now this Major was from Saigon supply headquarters, and wanted some retribution. The mess cook, an e-3, was given 30 days of latrine duty. That meant SBD (Sh*t Burning Detail). On his second day he did not check the wind conditions, yup it was blowing into the base. Most of the base just stunk. The base commander was not a happy camper at this time and busted the guy to e-1 and 2 weeks pay, with another 30 days at SBD. |

Nov. 1, 2019 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Electronic ID cards Senior Softball-USA announced that it would send out electronic Player ID Cards beginning in the 2020 season that players could keep on their mobile phones for convenience. I'm going to 2020 Ft Myers, how can I receive one? |
May 18, 2019 Dirtball | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Milwaukee Classic - Rained Out Tourny turned into a 1 day event for the 65/70/75/80's on Friday. Played 45 min. games. 1 pitch, bat 2 innings, defense 2 for the first 4 innings, rest of game was standard rotation. I liked the 1 pitch 2 innings offense, moved the games along. Only issue, you would be playing 5 games in 1 day. |
March 12, 2019 Dirtball | Topic: Bats Discussion: DUDLEY 2019 LIGHTNING HOTW Received my DudleyW 14" 25oz bat today. Being in the upper Midwest we hit indoors. Temp around 70 degrees. I'm 67, 6'1" 195lbs. Play in 65AAA. I have warning track power, many 1-2 hoppers off the 300' fence. Took about 50 hard swings, no problem, NO cracks. If anybody is looking at serial #'s my bat #1612180051. Ball really jumps off the bat after a few swings. Going to hit next week also. |

Nov. 7, 2018 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New Stote softball Played 3 more games with the new ball, we also are playing in Naples 65 AAA. On first touch of the ball, the cover only, is a little spongie, not has hard as the last years Stote. The ball holds up to the humidity. We hit the fence a couple of times, and in the late innings. Its just the cover that feels softer. The core of the ball never changed. We are still playing tomorrow, so now all of our balls are used so we can see after a few more games how the ball holds up. Since I play infield and outfield I did not notice more knucklers, bad hops or weird things. |
Nov. 7, 2018 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New Stote softball Playing in Ft. Myer's with the new ball. Temps upper 80's, 90% humid, 70 dew. NOT impressed with it over 7 innings. Ball does not carry very well, cover seems to get a little loose over 7 innings. Played 2 games on Tuesday, same thing in both games. We will see in todays games. looks like 3 games today. |

Dec. 19, 2017 Dirtball | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: survey As a pitcher the most wasted time I see is when a batter is trying to hit the left or right field foul lines and the ball goes foul. Now, the outfielder needs to chase the "game ball" down, then we need to wait till the outfielder needs to get back into position. Remember when the ball goes foul that outfielder is not running at 100% to chase it down and get back into position. With 0-0 count the batter has 2 chances to hit the lines, if he misses 2 times the batter next will hit up the middle, watch out pitchers. With a 1-1 count batters might take 1 try at the lines, but most batters like to take a strike before they swing. |
