Jan. 17, 2025 Mikelmart | Topic: Bats Discussion: Rolled bats So in the comment by SSUSA staff if a bat fails the compression test but the bat owner does not surrender their bat (maybe just from normal use and no shaving or rolling) then that person starts their ten year suspension? So if that bat is found to be unaltered but just used does SSUSA provide a replacement? SSUSA says it's not to be used in tournament play but your are rendering that bat useless to the owner if they still want to use it as a winter BP bat. |

Jan. 5, 2025 Mikelmart | Topic: Bats Discussion: Paint chips on bats I'm playing in Bullhead next month and I have a question. Both of my gamer bats have paint chips missing on them, they show no signs of cracks or webbing. What is the official stance on being able to use these bats? I don't think there should be any issues with defective paint jobs from the manufacturer. |
Dec. 11, 2024 Mikelmart | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Bat Warmers So it seems that the team(s) that used portable propane heaters were the culprits in this sweeping change for bat warmers being eliminated across the board. I just want to say thanks for nothing in making this a sweeping issue for all by the actions of the few. How about SSUSA changing the rules to eliminate such devices and considering the below 65 degree rule for warmers to be used to save our investments. |
May 15, 2024 Mikelmart | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Playing abilities In our local league we have 3 different age categories, 50,58 and 63. You can play down from your category. The issue is we have players who pay 50's who's skills are greatly diminished. Can the board make determinations on whether a player, for their own safety be disallowed to play in the lower age division based on extreme safety issues i.e. limited running, catching, throwing and fielding ability. Would this be considered age discrimination ( other employees restrict duties such as military, airline pilots, etc). Where does the liability begin and end for the league regarding safety and possible discrimination? |
April 20, 2024 Mikelmart | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Southwest Tournament BLD is still a mess. We played on Crosley Field on Sunday and half of the outfield look like a cat litter box. $8 for admission does not make up for the playing conditions, I don't car how good the concession area is or the stands when the field overall is way beyond sub par. |

Dec. 24, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: Bats Discussion: New rule on shaved bats Dbax I don't understand how you don't know what kind of bat your teammates are swinging. The biggest part of being on a team or associating with a group of players (including batting practice) is what bat are they swinging. Is it end loaded, balanced, two piece, how long does it break in, how do you like it, can I swing it? The list goes on. My statement about a player who is known to used a shaved bat shouldn't come as a surprise to you or anyone else. |
Dec. 23, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: Bats Discussion: New rule on shaved bats I think the penalty for team/manager suspension should be enforced. I don't think that any teammate or manager does not know that a fellow teammate is using an illegal bat. There's a player in our area that is well known for this violation and he's not referred to in glowing terms. Hopefully this nonsense will end one day, until then go to the gym, take extra BP, stay in shape or just resign yourself to being a little longer in the tooth and just compete. |

Sept. 11, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: What do 12 and 6 foot arcs really look like? This 6-12 pitch falls under perception vs. reality. Every umpire/hitter will have their own interpretation. It's best that the umpire be as consistent as possible, establish his zone with the pitcher and call illegal pitches loud enough for the batter to hear. The high pitch is easier to call in time but the low pitch not as much and once again be as consistent as possible, |

April 20, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: You make the call Nancy it was at BLD in LV, batters box lines are definite, four out of five hitters is a bit much even if the fans are emotinal or not. The umpire should be paying attention regardless. |
April 18, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: You make the call 78 degrees in Las Vegas The flip flop team had only scored four runs so it wasn't like they expended that much energy on defense. |
April 18, 2023 Mikelmart | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: You make the call Had three interesting scenarios in Las Vegas this past weekend. 1. Four of first five hitters in top of first inning stepped clearly out of the batters box when making contact. Fans in stands point this out to the umpire, umpire does nothing. 2. Batter is due up, however the batter is in the bathroom and everyone waits on the batter two minutes, umpire does not call batter out but waits. 3. Flip flop occurs, team on the field does not stay on the field but calls "water break", umpire allows the defensive team to go to the dugout for water. What calls should be made if the rules are to be enforced? |
