As we age up in SS the infield fly rule and ordinary effort should not used in the same sentence.

Sorry Mike but due to SSUSA rules a Texas player cannot play on a California team.

Discussion: Worth Prodigy glove

A player today showed up to BP with one of these gloves that I've never seen before.
It is a hybrid fielders glove and first baseman glove.
My question is can it be used at any position for SSUSA tournaments?

Discussion: Archie Gubler Fields

Dave it was not a matter of starting the tournament 0-4, no sour grapes there where all teams had to play on the same fields.
I hope as Dale1122 posted that he too shared in the quality of the fields I hope that others shared too, not just Dale and myself.
Given the situation overall someone had to draw the short straw and play at Gubler, unfortunately it was the 60AAA again.
And as for the quality of the infield there was little difference even though there was some extra effort by the maintenance crew, but that did not make up for the squishy outfield and muddy warning track.
As they say you cannot make a silk purse from a pigs ear.

Discussion: Archie Gubler Fields

I don't know who Archie Gubler was but he must have had some ill feelings towards 60AAA softball teams.
His fields are horrendous, grass that would swallow a small child not to mention the swamp like conditions. Sprinkler systems that must be possessed or watering systems designed to waste as much water as possible.
Infields that once again that end up looking more pock marked than a teenagers face after a bout of two greasy pepperoni pizzas. Flooded warning tracks and the ever loving temporary fences.
I'm sure Mr. Gubler was some sort of important man to have a park named after him, but next time I visit the St. George area I'll try to visit his grave site and give him a piece of my mind.

Discussion: Since when???

Hat Man thanks for the concise reply, I guess the term SENIOR is what got my dander up a bit.SSUSA stated that it's actually Masters division but run by Senior Softball. With all that being said I'm all for softball flourishing under any name/banner. I hope all of you do well and prosper until you get your first AARP mailing, by the way those guys are relentless, like a dog with a bone.

Maybe the SSUSA should have have a different association called the MLUSA (Mid Life USA).

Discussion: Since when???

Swing I'm 24 years removed from 40 and believe me if those 60 somethings are hitting bombs now they were definitely monsters back then.
I cant speak for anyone else but at 55 I could drive the ball with little effort, now turn back that clock another ten years and obviously you get my point.
A forty year old needs no help to accomplish what I took for granted so long ago.

Discussion: Since when???

Can someone please explain to me when a forty year old softball player is considered a " senior"?
I'd like to know who and why made this decision. Was it a financial thing?
Was it to generate players into the pipeline for senior softball earlier to insure its long term existence?
I've never seen a 40 year old team play but I can only imagine the exit velocity of a batted ball with the bats and balls that my much older counterparts are allowed to use.

Discussion: Batting

Corn trying to give an answer is like trying to solve Rubiks cube.
My first question is why? I too have fell down the rabbit hole of more distance. You can look at bats, balls, technique, age digression, nutrition, weight training, testosterone.
IMHO ask yourself would you rather hit the occasional HR and hit .500 or would you rather be a .750 hitter and get the occasional double or triple?
My pep talk to my team next week will be "Chicks dig the long ball but base hits wins games.

Dave, Tony and Sydney starred in a movie called "The Defiant Ones". Our best revenge is to play the offender and serve them the cold dish.

So because of this teams defiance my team and other teams had to face two additional schedule changes while the Tony Curtis/Sidney Pottier team gets off scot free.
