Discussion: nature of bat cheating...

Just adding my 2 cents. Since I run tournaments in Houston, I have taken a small poll of tournament players. 23 to be exact. Question :If we used a lesser bat (no utlra 2 or and just used the ball we normally use here(Trump 44/375), would you continue to play softball? 100% will continue to play even if they used a lesser ball also. These men like to play. If all use the same equipment, its an even field. So, anyone who thinks we will stop playing because they have taken away the livlier bats(anything comparable to the ultra2) is, at least in our area, mistaken. Its not lively bats and balls forever. Its softball.
again, this is just my 2 cents
GT
PS I still have my 34/38 ounce aluminum bat-Worth Heavy Weight .38 ounce bat. model ALS4H. I could hit one out on a 300 foot fence when I was young, the same I do with the Ultra2, up to a few years ago when I got old. Now, who wants to keep playing the game like we use to? We do.

Discussion: what will you

We just had 2 tournaments held in Pasadena, Tx and used the Trump 44/375. Both days the heat index was between 107 and 112. It didn't stop the home run production at all. I don't see anything wrong with this ball. Never heard a complaint about the ball. We are satisfied with this ball and don't have any problems playing with any ball both use. We sure don't lose any teams for our local tournaments due to balls. Its more about teams sponsoring themselves and having the money to play and playing so many tournaments. It still comes down the money much more then equipment and add having enough healthy players as the second condition. Least, thats how I see it.

Discussion: Running in the Batters Box

From an old buzzard. Corky. I have probably played the game as long as you, umpired on and off since I was 18, play now and manage a team. If an umpire can't tell when a batter is entering the batters box and deliberately erasing the lines, then that is a bad umpire. I didn't post this for an argument, just pointing out some facts. I'm pretty sure I can tell when a guy is erasing the batters box. So, just accept my opinion, respond to it and thats fine. As for the old buzzard, well, thats just another opinion your entitled to.
My last response to this thread. Just another reason I don't respond much anymore.

Discussion: Running in the Batters Box

I don't respond to many of the threads anymore but this one I would like to add something.Since I run up in the batters box. JohnBob, your problem is not the guy running up in the box. Its the umpires you have that don't know the rules and/or the type of batters box your using. Needless to say not all umps are good and know the rules. Second, when an umpire sees a batter erasing the batters box lines, there is a rule about that(don't have my rule book handy, but I believe the batter is out and possibly ejected). Not exactly sure, but he is out definitely. Now, in our league we use the platform with astro turf and it is constructed to the correct size of a batters box. All the umps needs to do is look at the batters feet and see if he is off the board when he hits the balls. Doesn't take an (won't use the word I want here) anyone with brains to see that. That stops the batter from being illegally to far in the box. We have had several guys called out for being off the board(me included) and thats fair. So, don't blame the bats or the balls. Good lively umps will cure your problem. Plus, the boards aren't that expensive and much nicer to hit from.

Hey Larry. There is a Team Texas from SanA, played in our Pasadena tournament. You guys going to shoot it out at the O K Corral for the name? Maybe your new team will make it to Houston for our next tournament. No date set yet. Good luck with your new team.

Jim and I would like to thank the 22 teams that played in the Firemans EarlyBird tournament this past weekend. There were some great games played and was nice to see all the guys having a fun time. The 70's bracket always amazes me at how well these men play. Weather really held up for us. Sure didn't look like a lot of you hadn't played in a while. Looked like mid season form. Would like to thank all the local teams and especially the 12 out of town teams that came here. Hope to have a few more during the year. Will advise on dates. Again, thanks to all that played. Hope everyone has a terriffic year.

#6
Have 10 in the 50'55 bracket.
8 in the 60/65 bracket and have 3 for sure as of now for the 70 bracket and expect one or two more for this bracket.
If the other 2 70's come, that is it. Will be 2 days. Pushed the limit last year and hope not to do that again. I now some wait to sign up, but 22 or 23 is good.

DoubleL10, its Feb. 20th and possibly the 21st. Last year we had 26 teams. If we get close to or that many again, will be two days. I did put out a recent message again yesterday and had two guys who wanted to get picked up and play. Next message, will add your name. I am sure there are teams that might want you. Only draw back is most teams usually want someone who is playing full time. Some team might want you for that weekend only. Will let you know if anyone does. Otherwise, I know a 50's AAA team that might be interested in you full time. email me and we'll chat about it.
#6, I remember you with Tanel and am hopeful you guys will be back. Always great to see you guys and pray the rain stays away this time. First time in 6 years it rained that weekend. This is number 7 and should be good luck. Should warm up by then. brrrr.

Let me say in reference to guys intentionally hitting at a pitcher. If its never happened to you, then your very lucky. I have had it done in tournaments and in my own league play. Don't think for one minute, it doesn't happen.
Just my 2 cents on this topic.

Thank you SSUSA for listening to the managers and players about this rule. The way you have it now, is perfect. Wear or don't wear, its the pitchers option. A good step to bring back the game to us. Very much appreciated.

Discussion: THAT SURVEY MENTIONED IN RED ABOVE

I gave a reply and my opinion on the info they requested. Also gave a reply of my opinion. Need everyone to get hold of a team manager and reply to this question. I see this as a chance to get something changed that we are all hoping for. Lets use this message board in a positive way. Possibly there will be more of this in the future with enough managers responding. Lets not blow this opportunity.

Discussion: Would it be acceptable to just make a pitching Mask and shin guards mandatory?

One can only assume, the 7 men who voted the "No Fly Zone" have not read this board much, nor have they listened to what men have to say. Leave the pitchers alone. With this new rule, I am now considering where I will play my team next year. I don't know who the No Fly Zone 7 have talked to, but it sure wasn't anyone in this area. I may have to go fishing with LP. My 2 cents.
