Sent a dozen balls through Eurskine and Kevin to the guys in Korea. Gave me a tingly feeling inside. Try it guys and experience that same feeling. Rob, Eurskine, Kevin and all the men at OSAN - Thanks for all you do!

Tim and Jawood - Region restrictions is fine with me too. Our team is within a 100 mile radius and we have done OK. I was thinking that if good players are playing down then get rated Plus because of thier performance, they would need a Major or Plus team to join or they can't play. In places like NM where Webbie is, if he couldn't play on GSF, what would his options be? Flexibility to make it work is the key. Bottom line is I see a whole lot of damn good players playing AAA and AA. If they could move up, every division would be better. No need to limit the Open division or break up any teams. Money doesn't buy heart and desire. The A's went 19 & 5 in July in baseball and Sommerville might have a bigger budget than them. That's a joke Don, no disrespect intended.
Rich - if you and I start a team, 1 + 1 = 2, woo hoo. We could play AAA. : )

Discussion: TOURNAMENT WINNER AUTO MOVEUP - Part II

Wow, this is an interesting topic. Marv19 is on the right track in my opinion. I really respect all of the opinions given here so far and I appreciate everyone looking for ways to make Senior Softball better. In my mind there is only one acceptable reason for playing down, sandbagging or staying below the proper level of play and that is friendship/family. I think all can respect that and understand that a plus player playing down to be with his friends and family is acceptable. I should note that I am interested in finding a solution to grow the Major+ program also. I would like it to happen without having to disband any Plus Teams. We use composite bats right? How about we use modern technology as Marv suggests? Here is my proposal.
Rate players at 1,2,3 or 4 with rating classes as follows:
1 =AA, 2 =AAA, 3 =Major and 4 =Major+
Limit the number of rated players allowed on each classifications roster.
-AA would allow no more than 3 players rated 2 with no 3 or 4’s.
-AAA would allow no more than 3 players rated 3 with no 4’s.
-Major would allow no more than 3 players rated 4.
-Major+ would be open with region restrictions. I like the 4 region suggestion.
All Senior Orgs provide scorekeepers, stat tracking software and a database of ALL members.
-This allows statistical rating of players which would rate them by offense.
-Some software allows for adding point performance for defensive play.
-This would enable the Orgs, not the managers to determine individual awards such as MVP, All Tourney, etc. and establish clear, consistent criteria for these awards.
Statistical data allows elimination of sandbagging at all levels and properly moves players to the correct level of play.
All levels should improve in parity and grow.
Sorry this is so long.

Congrats on the victory Guys.
My 2 favorite "George's" shined from what I hear and I would love to have been George #3 on that team any day. The convention in Charlotte was a powerful positive event just like a Senior Softball World Victory can be, so I came out of the weekend a winner as well. George R. only one mistake out the whole weekend? Awesome. Little George MVP ! Yeah baby.
See you guys in Vegas.
Dave Dowell - please post a picture of that huge pile of cash that SSUSA has been collecting for us, will ya? I bet that will create a good thread, ha-ha.

Donnie - I can only imagine the monster guys you will be picking up for 55's, ha-ha. That's great news about that many Major Plus Teams. Could you forward me Joe's email to gehall@hp.com? I'm not sure about the rules for talking about LVSSA on the SSUSA website or I'd ask you to post them. : ) Sounds like a great event so far.
Kurt - you guys just need to beat the Maverick's and everything else will hopefuly fall into place. Go Longhorns!

Omar - great post.
Joe is my team mate and I love and respect him a ton.
He knows how to push my buttons, but he always makes me think and challenges me to look at things in a different light. I love that and I love watching the message board light up when every one gets excited about something. We all see the same things in our own ways. Communication, sharing ideas and stimulating conversation is what a message board is all about.
Keep it up boys!

Kevin - thanks for the story. My prayers are with you for a full recovery. Sounds like you were lucky and that you still have some more important things to do here on earth. I sent you an email about a bat before I saw your message here. Just ignore it, no worries. Get better man and talk to you soon.

Discussion: Senior Softball is a Joke

Jawood -love your comment and agree that the comraderie, competition and just having fun playing ball almost always does it for me. But I also can relate to the cost versus reward debate. Dave, Franny and Terry supply us with a great product that a lot of us enjoy. I always look forward to giving them a bit of sarcasm and love at the same time to get their attention when I see them. As for rewards, I have a few ideas that seem positive to me. Rings - don't offer them unless they are free. I payed for a few my first few years, then just let them go after that. All Tourney patches - do away with them please. They just end up in the bottom of your sock drawer or something worse. Second place hats - same as All Tourney Patches. Bat Bags - nicer but still not what most people want which are the expensive wheel bags. I would like to see these award possibilities. First Place, Second Place and Third Place. Take the combined cost of the current awards and turn them into something that all of us want - Senior Bats - one for the Team or more if possible. Gloves - for MVP maybe. Batting gloves - instead of second place hats or All Tourney patches maybe. Team Credit for future SSUSA events - nothing like money to create more incentive to win. Just a few suggestions I would like to see because my 2nd place hat I just saw laying in the trunk of my car just reminds me how we should have won that frickin IF game in Reno...

Dave or SSUSA STAFF - I understand the reasons and concept of the second home plate. I just have one question. Can you look at changing the rule to allow catchers to react to a bad throw and still make a play? As the rule stands today, if the throw pulls the catcher off the plate or mat, he has to go get the ball and run back to touch the bag to record the out. I would like to see an exception to this rule where the catcher could come off the plate to make a catch and tag the runner to record the out. Just like bad throws to first up the line where the 1b is still able to tag the runner. Does this make sense to you?

Joey - I'm doing good. Thanks for the compliment. Funny, I had forgotten about the " Rinaldi" without you around to remind me of it. I don't think I have ever seen it done, so I will ask you now to serve me up one fat inside pitch, one right over the plate and one slightly outside in Turlock. I'll ask our pitcher to do the same for you, ha-ha.

The most intimidating thing I saw was this big old mountain boy wearing jeans and swinging this huge sledge hammer in the on deck circle. I think he once brought a big heavy ax out there also. League player and he could hit a ton. No one messed with him. Wiffle ball bat would not have had the same effect.: )
