Discussion: Why 2-day

Todd and Dave my name is Brian gregoire and I have been running the 40's and now trying to get the 50's to start playing in my events that I offer. Baby steps on the 50's but have had a few teams even play in the 40AAA and they enjoyed it helps them get better and provide different teams to play against instead of the same teams over and over again and we mirror the Homerun rules used in SSUSA so teams can stay consistent when they get ready to go play the big events. My website is usssastrong.com and I have a Senior only link it will be updated by mid December so keep checking for updates. We have a few events from now until end of year at BLD or Mistlin. Hope to see more 50's teams jump over we offer Cash Awards as teams are just tired of the shirts helps offset some entry fee costs for those teams that place in that are.

Yes looking forward to what USSSA will be offering for the Senior program will be getting updated in the next few weeks from the Western Region Director. Floridas new complex is state of the art all Turf fields I am definitely pushing my team to book that trip and experience it

Discussion: Use one up for home runs this year

Always hear lets not make it more difficult for our umpires, they don't play the game they enforce the rules as written. So if the Equalizer Rule is approved it shouldn't make their job any harder than what it is already. Some at this time are still confused by any rule that is easy to understand. This is what scorekeepers are for to validate what has been happening. If a scorekeeper can't help then the umpires decision is final. For me I don't understand why a 50 Major Team gets less Homeruns than a 40 Major team it should be equal or the 50's should get one more than them but to get lees seems like they are looking down on the older divisions. We all enjoy playing the game and it should be fair across the board. Just my 2 cents worth.

Discussion: Why 2-day

Todd, I have been running Senior events for the 40's primarily and trying to get the 50's involved now that I am now playing 50's occasionally. I am under USSSA and we allow everything just like SSUSA, but understand teams don't want to plat two days and strictly run 1 day events. we have a great following and utilize a Pool Play format or the 3gg bracket. We like to have a true winner as 1 game shouldn't define the outcome all teams have a bad game. You can view our schedule at usssastrong.com if interested. This is for Northern California.

Discussion: Initial Coin Flip Rule

So that is the problem the umpire was assigning Heads to team A and Tails to team B which is not how it should go. Do a flip to determine who calls the initial toss for Home. That takes it right out of the teams hands. Minor things like this impact the game in the end as Home has its importance.

Discussion: Brackets No Clue

So bracketing in the 50 Major in Vegas was extremely wacky. Why play for top seeds if you don’t get a better game time going into bracket play. Sure the #1 seed had the latest game but Seeds 2 and 3 had to play at 8a where Seeds 4 and 5 got the 9:30a game. Then when you won your last loser game on Friday the winner came back at 8a where the Loser got the 11a game. Something just doesn’t seem right in the way teams are rewarded. So basically we should have played to lose to get the later game on Saturday morning instead of being penalized by winning. No integrity in the bracketing area. Anyone else have this same type of issue?

Discussion: Initial Coin Flip Rule

Is the coin flip the decision of the umpire or is it stated somewhere in the rules as each umpire we had used their own spin on it.

Discussion: 50 major schedule in vegas

What's even worse since I have friends who played last week in the 55's it was a bad experience. 4 days and some teams were out Friday. I have a flight back on Monday so if we happen to get put out on Friday I have to sit there until Monday. Ridiculous more money spent and time lost from work and families. 4 days for a tournament is to long and not even USSSA the biggest association has 4 day events. I enjoy playing in Vegas but increasing the days is just not good for us working class people.

So for the ball in Vegas is the new compression on the ball 44/400? Up until recently this year it was 44/375.

Discussion: Rock N Reno Bracketing and Observations

I look forward to playing int he Rock N Reno event each year but this year it wasn't as fun as years past and here are some observations i noticed. Played in the 50's.

1) Game times and long breaks from our 12:30p game to the 8p which we were the last game scheduled and had to be back at 8a the next day if we won, which we did. Three games at 12:30p all loser bracket games and they should have been scheduled accordingly based on finish one at 5p 6:30p and 8p our game finished first from all three.
2)We got to the 8p game at 7:15p and there were two open fields where we could have started our game earlier but speaking with the directors they didn't want to do that. Reasons were field preps needed to be done, but if we started on one of those fields the field ending could have been prepped and then once we were done that would have been prepped it would be a trade off. The field that was open was not prepped yet for the following day.
3) Adding to number 2 directors want all teams at the park 30 mins before game times or they will deem the game a forfeit sometimes they work with you and sometimes they don't, but when asking to move fields to be done earlier they don't budge. It needs to be a two way street.
4) The umps we had were decent to good a couple of them forgot the score at times and had to be corrected but overall good. Had a good conversation with one of them.
5) Fields when signing up for this event we all want to play at Golden Eagle and this is why some numbers are down and also not being on the 3 day weekend. No disrespect but the Major and Major Plus teams should get the privilege to play at Golden Eagle and the lower divisions assigned to Centennial. This would make those teams want to get better and move up. Centennial has snakes that were present in our session and the tournament staff wants the teams to shag balls well I know I wouldn't knowing snakes are looming.

Just my two cents worth.

If a team played in the Winter Worlds in Arizona those players that played and checked in are locked in on that roster regardless how you did in the tournament? Players on said rosters have to asked to be released to go to another team?

Discussion: Any results yet for the 50 major?

Dave, here lies the problem if you are Major Plus you are that for a reason age and age up should have nothing to with it. You earned that rank so to speak. In USSSA, NSA, ASA if you are a C player then a D team can only have 3 C players no matter what your age is. Players appeal all the time and get denied basically because they don't belong in the lower divisions, because they want to play with fiends and be the star of the show. For crying out loud we are 50 and up and guys still do whatever it takes to manipulate the system to chase a ring legally or illegally. I have been around this game for years and player ratings take precedence not what age group a team is now especially the two players in question who are not 60 yet so how can that rank apply to them? They should be Major Plus until the age of 60 as MTC will still be playing on the 60's at that time. Too many Grey areas and unwritten rules for all teams to follow. Some have a way to get into the directors ear and find ways to make it work for them but not work for other teams. Player rating regardless would take care of this if a 50 team wants a 55 Major Plus guy then that takes on of those three Major Plus spots. No injury exceptions or other nuances to get re-ranked. Said players wanting appeal need to play for the year where they belong and get evaluated.

SSUSA - Respectfully how does a two year mandatory Major Plus rank for Tim and Charlie get overlooked as they played in the 55's two years ago? A mandatory rank is just that mandatory. Too many grey areas in this program that allow teams to buck the system to load up. I was told based on your index if a player comes up from the 40's they are considered Major Plus so is what in your rule book is now incorrect? If that is the case by index I am a Major Plus player since I was on a 40 team in 2016. Based on your rules a few teams are considered illegal but somehow the Home Office approves them. Again I enjoy playing the game and with the different rules its hard to know who is legal and who is not. I already sent an email a few days ago

SSUSA staff then here is my question now that it is established as three Major Plus Players

Tim Millette and Charlie Pennes are a 2 year mandatory rank as major Plus from the 2015 Second place finish with MTC in the 55's at Major Worlds so this would be there second year as Major Plus

Dan Arevalos major Plus Rank

Elbert Certeza carries a 50 Major Plus rank since he came from a 40 Major Roster in which LCW 40's won Worlds last year to be bumped to Major Plus

Rick Garza first year in 50's came from a 40's team Prestige Pools so would carry a Major Plus rank

So with that said that is 5 Major Plus players right there

Please shed some light on this information
