In this case the offensive intentional kicked ball with intent to prevent defense from getting to ball. Even, if runner was not attempting to take an extra base maybe runner should be awarded second-base and coach at first removed from coaches box. I’m thinking the kicking ball away deserves a force-full response even if runner was not attempting.

That you BJ but I was referring to OTHER THAN AVOIDING A COLLISIONS.
This local run-by is not to avoid collisions but to generally avoid fielders even if there is no risk of collision. This local run-by is not a SSUSA rule thank God.

My mistake, but there are offensive players that do obstacle by picking up thrown balls (trying to be helpful) so non playing offensive does obstruct sometimes which was on my mind but not associated with original question. My mistake.

I have to make one comment about the local rules that sometimes allow for a runner to run at full speed pass a base. (Not referring to avoid contact per existing rules).

The arbitrary run by rule some locals apply is a terrible and dangerous rule that has resulted in serious injuries to infielders. And just because it has not occurred in your local doesn’t mean it won’t because it obviously will and it will seriously hurt someone.

The rule assumes runners run where they’re supposed to (which they dont) infielders know where they’re going to be in a accepting a throw (which they don’t) and both tuner abd fielder KNOW THE RULE (which they don’t). The idea that none of these variables will occur is foolish.

Far too often that does not accrue resulting in serious injuries. (Dislocated shoulders and anything else that can happens will a 200 pound man runs full speed into another man standing still and defenseless).

Any local rule that encourages a runner to run full speed through a base any time said runner wants to (unless avoiding a fielder which also implies runner is slowing down as approaching the base) is inherently dangerous and stupid.

SSUSA should put out an advisory to local organizations in opposition to this dangerous rule. Infielders get serious hurt because of this. The standard is not if your local, who may have the rule, has had an injury but does not the logical of the rule make it inherently dangerous without regard as to if you’ve seen it happened or not.

That of course is defensive interference. The consequences of defensive interference are subject to whether the runner attempted to take second base. If the defense interference occurred while the runner was attempting to take another base it would be a dead ball and the runner would be awarded the base.If the runner did not attempt another base the coach would receive a stern warning and the runner would remain at first. Any additional edification is appreciated.

Discussion: Rule interpretation

The Run By Rule that some locals use is the stupidest rule every.
One has to believe only people who have never played would suggest a runner running full speed into second-base to either side of the bag is a good idea. That run hurts people. Infielders are hoping a runner knows what side to go to and the defense throwing the ball to the correct side. That is a false premise. Infielders get wiped-out and hurt because of that rule. It's based upon the idea that an infielder at second wants to stand stationary on the base and throw when in fact no middle infielder making a pivot stands on second and then throws. It restricts the infielders throws and restricts the pivot man at base from taking a throw and making a play by swiping the bag with a foot then moving outside or inside bag to pivot and throw. Again, anyone who's played middle-infield knows making adjustments to throws is part of the game. The Run By Rule assumes too much. And it's not necessary. JUST RUN TO THE BAG. That way every fielder knows where runner is and adjust accordingly as opposed to hoping the runner knows what side they are to be on and the field throws the ball to the correct side. Plus the pivot man is not stationary on touching the bag and moving off of it to pivot and throw. They are catching the ball and moving toward out-field or in-field to pivot and throw to first. No infield stays stationary on a base unless its a force play or tag.
Stupid rule that has hurt more infielders than bad bounces.

There is a Recreational tourney in Perris CA Dec 3-4.

I’m looking for a team. Going to be in Palm Desert for a few months.

I play 60/65 AAA. Experienced, IF yet open to any position. Usually hit in top half of line-up but open to hitting when and where would be needed.

Discussion: Team list for the Northwest Championships?

Dave,
Games in Salem were excellently scheduled, thanks.
Question, I heard SSUSA was waiving the need for players to play in a qualifier this year? Anyone on roster can play in Vegas even if they didn’t play in a qualifier.
Is that the case?

Had a situation today.
All players are batting so there’s no available substitutes. On defense a player is injured and is due up next inning. When injured player comes up can he be skipped w/o consequence? Or is he out? What happens next time he comes up?

Dave: just saw revised Salem schedule. Really appreciate that Tuesday times don’t change as ballers have all made travel plans based on Tuesday game times. We are pleased with all the changes considering the “notice” you received. I’m sure all NW 65’s ballers appreciate your efforts.

David, over this weekend there was talk that a 65 team had to drop out. It’s of course understandable, everyone has to make a different decision in regards to tournaments.

Dave, speaking for my team only. We want innings, period.

We’ll like to win a tournament but mostly we need all the innings we have been forecast under original schedule.

Our team would rather play anybody than take a bye.
Even out of division and the game being practice game only not counting in tournament.

We need innings, maybe you would consider getting us into some kind of game as opposed to making us take a bye if in-fact a team dropped out.

Anyway, thanks for all of our efforts.
