June 21, 2010 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Balls From a post written by OLDBUCK23 on 05/07/2007: Hombre, the best overall balls are any of the Trump Balls that have Micro Cell Technology (MCT). They especially perform heads and tails above any other 44/375 or 44/400 balls when it is hot (above 85 degrees). They are engineered to lose no compression in the very hot weather, which is what causes most balls to feel like a sock. I have read that for every degree above/under 72 degrees, most softballs lose/ gain 5 lbs of compression. The TRUMP balls also perform great in cooler temperatures. No ball is better, in my opinion. Kevin Schullstrom at Anaconda Sports / Trump Softball can give you the real skinny on their balls versus other balls at 1-800-327-0074 ext 210. The prices are the best, also. The worst of the worst that I have used so far is the A.D. Starr 44/375 Spirit ball. a couple of years ago ,our organization mistakenly used them in a pretty large tournament in 90 degree weather. The TD caught heck from EVERY team about those balls. |

June 16, 2010 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Championship game scoring Reno - 15 games were played in the 50+ major plus division in Carson City - 5 on field 4 with the wind blowing out and 10 on field 7 with the wind blowing in. The average total runs scored in games played on field 4 was 54.4. The average total runs scored in games played on field 7 was 44.3. |
June 15, 2010 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Championship game scoring Five of the 6 games our 50+ major plus team played were on field 7 in Carson City. A very strong wind was blowing in from left field and out to right field all 3 days on field 7. There is no doubt scores of all games played on this field would have been considerably higher had the wind not been blowing the way it was. We scored 29 runs on field 4 where the wind was blowing out. |

March 1, 2010 Brett | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Teams Being Bumped Up Vinniec, nothing personal...I'm sorry you took it that way. I was simply asking a question pertaining to the SSUSA's official response earlier in the post. Our team won an ISA world tournament at the AAA level and was automatically bumped up the following year. We revised our team accordingly and have been competing at the major level since. Yes, we won the SSUSA worlds last year and will now be playing major plus. We will be giving it our best try and will see how it goes. As you know, unfortunately there are very few major plus teams in the midwest to compete with. We have no sponsor, so we will travel and play in what we can afford. I was simply questoning why every team does not get bumped under the same rules that applied to our team. I happened to use your team (sorry) as one example of the inconsistency that exists in the rating of teams following a national tournament. I am one that believes there should only be two divisions in each age category, like USSSA does it. |
Feb. 23, 2010 Brett | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Teams Being Bumped Up To SSUSA staff post: "Other automatic increases are applied to teams that win the year-end National/World Championship of four of the major Senior Softball Summit Organizations, namely ASA, SPA, ISA, and ISSA. And those Champions are moved only when their win comes in larger brackets of more than five teams." If this is ture, why was Windy City not automaticallhy moved back to major plus after having won the major divison at the 2009 ISA World tournament in which there were 8 teams? |
Feb. 15, 2010 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOC Thanks guys. Unfortunately, having not had the opportunity to play or practice since Phoenix really showed. Our team was very rusty. At least we made it to Sunday. |
Feb. 9, 2010 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Einstine where are you? I chose our Barons team name 5 years ago for the same reason.....after the Birmingham Barons. I felt it was different and had a certain ring to it. |

Jan. 8, 2010 Brett | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: midwest nationals Just because this tournament is 'titled' the Midwest Championships, does not mean other teams outside the geographic area can not participate. Kansas City is centrally located. |
Jan. 8, 2010 Brett | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: midwest nationals There are the three sections of the Midwest — the Lake states, Northern Plains states, and Corn Belt. South Dakota being one of the Northern Plains states is part of the Midwest. States of the Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. |
Dec. 29, 2009 Brett | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: midwest nationals The Midwest Championships should be held in KC at the Mid-America Sports Complex (Shawnee, KS). There are ten 300-foot fields and the complex drains exceptionally well in the event of rain - second to none. After having played in Schaumburg last year and Champaign the year before, I would much prefer it to be at a complex where rain is rarely a factor. I for one am tired of traveling to play in rain-shortened tournaments or cancelled tournaments. The 'powers at be' have historically done a very poor job of choosing the complexes where these tournament are played at. Yes, I know it's all about money for the one's putting on the tournaments. However, it is not fair to teams/players that pay large amounts of travel money to end up playing in rain-shortened tournaments. This happened with our team 6 times last year. |

Nov. 13, 2009 Brett | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Why is Friday the 13th considered Unlucky? Some historians trace the Christian distrust of Fridays to the church's overall opposition to pagan religions. Friday is named after Frigg, the Norse goddess of love and sex. This strong female figure, these historians claim, posed a threat to male-dominated Christianity. To fight her influence, the Christian church characterized her as a witch, vilifying the day named after her. This characterization may also have played a part in the fear of the number 13. It was said that Frigg would often join a coven of witches, normally a group of 12, bringing the total to 13. A similar Christian tradition holds that 13 is unholy because it signifies the gathering of 12 witches and the devil. Some trace the infamy of the number 13 back to ancient Norse culture. In Norse mythology, the beloved hero Balder was killed at a banquet by the malevolent god Loki, who crashed the party of twelve, bringing the group to 13. This story, as well as the story of the Last Supper, led to one of the most entrenched connotations of the number 13: You should never sit down to a meal in a group of 13. Another significant part of the Friday-the-13th legend is a particularly bad Friday the 13th that occurred in the middle ages. On a Friday the 13th in 1306, King Philip of France burned the revered Knights Templar at the stake, marking the occasion as a day of evil. |
