| Oct. 27, 2010 Ceres | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SAD DAY FOR SOFTBALL I played softball this morning with a member of the Texas Pickups who were championed by #6 as a weak 60AA team forced by SSUSA to play 60AAA in Phoenix. The Texas Pickups did add a few substitute players for Phoenix including this particular player who is a very strong 60AAA player. They were neither a weak 60AA team nor a weak 60AAA team. #6 you ought to get the facts but more importantly, mind your own business. |

It's a minor point but IF DONE ORIGINALLY, WE WOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS DISSCUSSION. Thanks for inquiring about my ability to add. That was very kind. Thanks for telling us that Larry asked you to post some of this. Finally my most important point and the one that you neglected to address: Jumping on the SSUSA by using this message board is not only senseless but it's pointless. |

A team from Texas is overrated and is going to SSWC in Phoenix at great expense to get slaughtered. #6 who is not on this team takes up their cause whether he's asked to or not by reporting their plight to us in this column. It'll do no good to report in this column.The team, not #6, must get the ear of the SSUSA Administration or forget about it. I'm from Texas and have played in the SSWC in Phoenix. My expenses were less that $1000 not the $7000 to $8000 told to us by #6. |

You know that neither Score nor Conigliaro were killed, and both were able to play subsequent seasons. Conigliaro was hit on the left cheekbone and that is why Major League Baseball use batting helmets with flaps. Major League did institute protection. Now a senior player is killed and you say it is not cause for over reaction. |

If you pitch and don't want to buy and wear protective equipment YOU DON"T HAVE TO.Just sign the waiver at each SSUSA tournament. If you want to wear protective equipment, buy what YOU think is necessary. The cost will be less than a good bat. With the size of the bat bags some players drag around, it'll take up only a small portion of the bag. |

Usuallly the SS or 2B runs to the outfield to relay the throw. They don't line up the throw for the outfielder and you never hear "cut it" or "let it go" from anyone. If this is the case they are RELAY men not CUT OFF men. |

Indy 60s maybe if you send this whole column to SPA and to SSUSA (because it might affect your rating with them) noting that many players over a two week period took an interest in your plight and sided with you. All these players feel disappointed because of the ruling and because your team can't even get a hearing with SPA. |

Did you see any of the games they played or know their capability? It could have been that they really were much too good for 60AA and the SPA President made the correct ruling by making them play 60AAA eventhough they came in under the radar. Howeven neither I nor any of you have the information to judge. Association Presidents should protect the competion of their associations' championships. These are not your ordinary tournaments. |
| Oct. 20, 2009 Ceres | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: They Can't Do That? A similar ruling was made by Ridge Hooks at the SPA Nationals in 2004 when they were played in Plano Texas. I played for Kelley's a AA team. We finished second to Team Naples, but both times we faced them it was no contest. In fact, every game they played, it was no contest. A few days after the tournament, Ridge declared our team co-champs. He does something when he feels a team is sneaking into lower divisions so they can win. Next season we were a mediocre AAA team and Naples was a major team. |

It should be up to the pitcher, and if the pitcher gets hurt because the pitcher is not wearing this equipment, then it's the pitcher's fault. Soon pitchers will all wear protection. I base this statement on the evolution of batting helmet use in MLB. Before 1955 hardly anyone wore a batting helmet, then some players started wearing pots. Then all wore pots. Because of several serious injuries Conigliaro, Cey etc) all batters now have to use helmets with ear flaps. |

His equation is wrong. Force = mass x velocity squared divided by R where R is approximately the bat's length. Velocity of the bat dominates the equation. The faster you can swing it the force increases a bunch. |
