Aug. 12, 2023 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Pacific Rim Tournament Thank you. I think this was a good decision. |
Aug. 6, 2023 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Pacific Rim Tournament I no longer see the Pacific Rim Tournament in Hong Kong listed on the International Softball Tours section. Has that tour been cancelled? (I certainly would understand in view of the current problems with Hong Kong and China.). If it has been cancelled, will this tournament be rescheduled for next year at another location? Thanks. |
June 1, 2021 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 75 Player looking to hook up for June 16-17 SSUSA Prescott Tournament I’ve played with Bob. He’s a good player, a nice guy, and would be an asset to your team if you need someone for Prescott. |
Feb. 1, 2021 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Spring Worlds Fields in St. George Thanks, Tim. |
Feb. 1, 2021 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Spring Worlds Fields in St. George The only fields now listed for the Spring Worlds in St. George are at the Canyons Complex, whereas I believe there were other potential fields in St. George. Does this mean that all the teams playing in St. George will be playing at the Canyons? (If so, that’s great — these are wonderful fields.). Thanks. |
Jan. 1, 2021 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Fields for Southwest Championships Dave: Thank you. And have a happy and healthy new year. |
Dec. 31, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Fields for Southwest Championships I know it is early, but since I’m trying to make reservations, I wonder whether the SSUSA has any sense at what fields the 80s will play in the Southwest Championships in Las Vegas in April. Thanks. Bob S. |
Nov. 20, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Spring Worlds Great! Thanks. |
Nov. 19, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Spring Worlds The SSUSA website indicates that the Spring Worlds in March will be in St. George (a great place), but the fields listed are in both St. George and Mesquite. When will we know if we will be playing in St. George or Mesquite so we can make reservations? (I play with an 80s team.) I don’t want to stay in Mesquite if we will be playing in St. George, and vice versa. Thanks. Bob |
Nov. 13, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Clarification of mask rules Thanks again, Tim. Bob |
Nov. 12, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Clarification of mask rules Tim: In rereading your response, it appears fielders have to wear a mask. I assume that’s not the case, is it? Bob |
Nov. 12, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Clarification of mask rules Thanks! Bob |
Nov. 12, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Clarification of mask rules Our team is playing in the Winter Worlds next week and I would appreciate it if the SSUSA would clarify whether an on-deck batter must wear a mask. We had different interpretations from different umpires in St. George. I would think an on-deck batter (who is not near others) would be considered as being on the field and not need a mask, but I’m not certain of the rule. (It’s also a pain in the neck to carry a mask in your back pocket when hitting and running or to go from the on-deck position to put your mask in the dugout before you hit.) Thanks. Bob |
Oct. 3, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Pacific Rim Tournament for 2021 I understand the Pacific Rim Tournament was going to be held in or around Vancouver this year before it was cancelled. While I assume no definite arrangements have been made for the tournament next year, do you expect it will be in Canada, and about what time of year? Thanks. Bob S. |
July 20, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Westerns in Mesquite? Very glad to hear it's St. George. A wonderful venue with beautiful scenery. The Canyons Complex is particularly nice. I hope priority will be given to using those fields. |
July 16, 2020 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Westerns in Mesquite? Will the games for the older groups be early ones? It looks as if it will be quite hot in St. George during the tournament. |
Oct. 3, 2019 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Scheduling games back to back Tim: I think you'll find that the older groups would prefer back to back rather than sitting. At least that's what teammates and those on other teams have told me. Bob |
Oct. 3, 2019 Bob S. | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Scheduling games back to back Is there any reason more tournament games aren't scheduled back to back? I think that no matter what time of the day we play, most players would rather play back to back than sit out, wait, and get stiff. In Las Vegas recently, our team played 8 games in a round robin (where all games were scheduled in advance of the tournament), and only once did we play back to back. It seemed that games for other age groups were interspersed with our games. Thanks. Bob |
July 31, 2018 Bob S. | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Calling High Pitches I don't think it helps a batter to have anyone other than the umpire say that a pitch is high while it is in the air. Since we're talking about senior softball, presumably the batter has been playing many years and can form his or her own judgment as to whether the ball is too high. People (other than the umpire) calling out while the pitch is still coming will, in my opinion, lead to more confusion than help. |
Jan. 4, 2018 Bob S. | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: 1-1 or 0-0 Count To me, the issue isn't just about whether the game will go faster. I think it does when you start with a 1-1 count. It would be even faster if you start with a 2-2 count or play a one pitch tournament. Personally, I like to have more control as a batter about what pitch I hit. When you start with a 1-1 count, if the pitcher hits the corner of the plate with the first pitch (or throws it at a questionable height and it is called a strike anyway), you have to swing at anything near the plate, or at a questionable height, on the next pitch. I'd rather not have to do this, even if the game isn't quite as fast. |
