Discussion: I have a simple question for those who have pitched.

To the people that like to judge other people. I put my comments on here to add to the topic. Not to hear I've lost my skills and that my age doesn't add up. Yes, as time goes by we all lose a little something, but until you see me play you have know idea of my skills. As for Joe, Ive played against you with the Crew, Exstreme, Stixxs and Wilsons. Never pitched against you, play ss, and maybe your right might be slowing down a bit. As for #6 the age is 59 and didn't really start playing until I was 11yrs old as if that mattered. I just gave my thoughts and believe that is what it asked for. As for my handle, that also bothers alot of peopele also, it was meant just as I stated, Ive play all over the world from Korea to Germany and through out the United States and the people that really know me, would tell you I am up front guy.

Discussion: I have a simple question for those who have pitched.

I've played this game for 48yrs. between hard ball and softball. I've played at every level except major league baseball. And at no time did I every want to get on the field and look like a clown. So, no I am not wearing a goalies outfit just to pitch so some of you so called hitting can come back up the middle at the pitcher. There needs to be strong rules about coming up the middle, and don't tell me to get the proper equipment. I like the bats and the balls that they use in senior softball and hope that doesn't change. But what does need to change, is some of you think going up the middle is O.K. and he should field his position. Hell, balls have been hit past me and I didn't even see them til they were past, now how are you going to defend that. And everyone has there thoughts about well maybe he shouldn't pitch. But believe me, if most pitchers tell the truth, there worst nightmare is some 200lber or bigger getting into one and coming up the middle. I don't know the answer, just know something has to be done about the pitcher protection rule.

To the Wood, if the name or handle upsets you, sorry about that. As for impressing other people, that's not about me. And before you pass judgement on someone, you need to get to know that person. I think if you'd every got to meet me, you just might change your mind about me. Anyway I stand by what I said, "you put 1.2 bat in the hands of some of these people, and going up the middle is asking for someone to get hurt. If you don't a gree with me that's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As far as sticking to local tounements, I do play alot of them, as well as major tounments, But thanks for the advise Mr. Wood

Let me get this strieght, G>T> and mad>dog lets play this game the way it made to be played.. That's fine by me, so where is that tournment with no miken, runners running for themselfs, and yes even having to slide at all the bases. Hummm I just don't recall one like that but if you two find one, lets do it Oh by the way, if anyone wants to come up the middle with out the hot bats, I have no problem with that.

I played in the winterworlds in las vegas and was struck twice. In each incident the batter was not called out. I tried to make plays on both balls, but because i was out of the box "behind" the line the rule didn't apply. Just to let everyone know, iam not a bad fielder and usually play shortstop, so yes my hands still work. Most people stay away from the middle and if it happens, then it usually a mistake, but others and you know who you are still think that its alright. Just to let everyone know, if i went middle 5 times the pitcher might have a chance of getting one of them, but is it worth hurting someone for a base hit. And that"s the whole point of this post, iI "think". That the middle really does need to be shut down, and take away the judgement from the umpires, if you go middle your out " and if it happens twice by the same player out of the game. And yes both balls opened cuts, one on the leg and the other on the forearm And i hear, what about the third basemen and shortstop, trust me you have much more time at those positions then the pitcher.

Discussion: RATINGS WARS--continued

Just to give you a note: a team from the west coast got bumped up to the majors this year. The team as a whole, are a great bunch of guys. But in thier opinon they couldn't compete at the major level. Well, they won a ring in Utah, and just beat some fine 50 major teams, and 50 triple A teams. Now I ask you, do you think they have a reason to cry foul, and by the way they are a 55 team. As a manager, iI would think you'd tell your team lets give this a try and see where it goes from there. If you get your lunch and take your knocks, appeal, I bet you they do the right thing. I really believe that T>H> is not out to get anyone, he just tries to be fair to the whole playing field. Is it 100 per cent proof, no, teams slip through the cracks all the time, but in the end all things even themself out. Have I walked in these shoes, I believe at one time or another we all have walked in these shoes, and here we are still playing this game like young kids

I just don't get it. We get to play the greatest game around even at our age, and yet some people still want to cry they're not getting a even break. As far as no-dice getting moved up, we played them at the tripley a level and competed with them all the time. If its not the ratings, its the balls, not the balls then sun in your eyes. I don't care who we play, just put me out on the field and let me enjoy this game. I don't aways agree with the way things are being done and some of the rules, but i think over all they try to do thier best and be fair to all teams, but "we" don't aways agree with them As for your team not going to the california cup, and others I'm sorry to hear that, but i think it will still go on and everyone there will enjoy themself just the same. Hope you change mind about ssusa and if not that's alright too.

Discussion: what is the outcome of a runner being hit by a batted ball?

i hate to bust your bubble, but in senior softball the ball is live and runners run at their on risk. its only a dead ball if a fielder could have fielded the ball the runner is out and the batter is awarded 1st base, its a judgement call by the umpire

if i'm not mistaken, the ball is live if a fielder can't make a play, and play is resumed just like a base hit. if the fielder could make a play the runner is out and the batter is awarded 1st base. this is what the ruling states i believe, but maybe they changed the rule from last year.

Discussion: What Would You Change in Senior Softball-Part II

Well, i see we all agree to disagree lol. I don't care if its a one and one count or not, I think the one and one will bring defense in the game more and people wouldn't go up looking for walks as much, Will it make the game faster, don't know, but most good hitters go up to the plate and look to hit the ball, and not wait for a walk. Good hitters don't need three swings to hit the ball, so it shouldn;t bother them so much, If the older teams don't want the one and one fine, but i believe the younger 50 and 55 would like to see the game speeded up just alittle. It's no fun not getting to play a full game. As far as paying and should get the full seven, not going to happen. Time limits are here to stay as they should be, Like i stated before, this game is great just the way it's run now, And when you try to please this many kids, its not going to happen,

Discussion: What would you change in Senior Softball?

i think the general concept of senior softball is in good standing for the most part. Are there things that could change, yes, but you have to ask yourself how much impact, will that change make. As a whole i think the game is fair and being run as smooth as can be expected. I know I wouldn't want to be in Terrys' shoes for anything. I believe he trys to be fair to every team and player that plays the game, but when you have this many adult kids, it;s not always easy. As f ar as i'm concerned leave this game as it is, it seems to be working for the most part. Now if someone come up with an idea that will better the game, so be it, other wise let it stand as it is,

Discussion: when managers picks all-tournment players

my last reply on this subject. Yes i made the all world team and have for the last five years. This was never about me, it was about the unjust that was done to other people on the team. It seems to me, people want to make commits about not being there or sour grapes about other things, and missed the issue that this goes on and why. I will never play for a team again where the manager is the only one to choose and not the team, For if the team would have voted the catcher in, this would have never been posted.

I think some people are missing the point. One, i think the team should have a say in who get the awards, secondly there was other people more deserving then the catcher=manager, and third, if you win as a team, you should get to vote as a team. and yes i am moving on and playing with another team. Every person has their own thoughts and if you think it's sour grapes thats fine, but you really missed the point, and should go back and read just what was said. As far a team sport, your right, and we have a great group of people, but like i said for the last time, "it left a sour taste in my mouth on how this was done. People can take anyway they'd like, but i still say it was wrong .

sounds to me 19 that u r just like the catcher.u know the one always not getting picked and all. i really don't think you answered my question about explaining to me how a catcher is a impact player or for that matter deserves to make all tournment. So you either proble play catcher or have never won the all-tourney awards we are talking about. So far as individual awards being given out, all i'm saying is give them to the deserving people. PS Sound to me like you have never won one of these awards 19 so you get a grip and realize they give them out for a reason.

Discussion: when managers picks all-tournment players

I've been playing this game for along time, just like the rest of the people here. Do i have an ego, you bet I do. And most of the good players, if trueth be told, "do". I grant you, it is a team sport and there are no I's in team. But when they give individual awards, the players that stand out shoud be given those awards. And that's not taking anything from the team, cause you win as a team. But when a manager gets the awards and puts them in his pocket and votes himself all-tourney later, with no fed back from the team that just won the world, it stinks. Well, wish everyone Merry Christmas, and good luck next year.

Discussion: when managers picks all-tournment players

I just got done playing in the worlds in Phoenix, and won another championship. This one though, left a sour taste in my mouth. Could someone explain to me, how a catcher, that doesn't hit in the top five, with no homeruns, make it over a shortstop. The shortstop probably hit the highest on the team for average, turned eight double plays, and played solid "D", was left off. I just think, that if i'm building a team, it would be around a shortstop rather then a catcher. Also there is no doubt in my mind, if the players had voted and not the manager the catcher would have been left off. Just like my friend said,"if his nine year old son played catch for us, we still would have won." So in closing, i'd just like to state the catcher was the manager.

I'm on a team from california that participated in the hayward tournment. We came in six place and i saw no juiced bats or any player that i thought was using one. People must know that most the great players are from the west, with a few exception. I don't mean to ruffle anyones feathers but that's the way it is. We lost are first game 29-28 and still came in sixth place. There was some great hitter and defensive gems in that tournment. Most great players remember in there 40s' just how much better they were then in their 50s', and if you come to a tournment with a less caliber team then what's playing you will get your lunch Signed the kid @56
