Discussion: Thanks For Letting Us Play

Just wanted to drop a quick note and say thank you to all the 50s teams at the Florida Spring Training tournament this past weekend in Cape Coral, FL. Our 40s team, TNR/Potomac/SB Sports was ready to get out of Maryland and head to some warm weather to play but with the lack of 40s participation, we would've been SOL if not for SSUSA and the 50's team managers figuring out a way to work us into the tournament as an exhibition team. Hope you all had as much fun playing us as we did you. Till we cross paths again, best of luck.

Hey B.J., I am guessing a VCR is like today's DVRs? Just kidding, we all know that one old guy, like Timmy Mac, that still owns a VCR.

Sounds like Still Got Wheels has nothing but time on his hands. He should definitely offer up his services to help out. I heard the only thing slower than 40's schedule coming out is Still Got Wheels running in the outfield. From what I have been told, his team should just stay home cause Vegas is a long way to travel to go 0-5. (I may or may not know Still Got Wheels and this post may or may not be in jest)........come on Vegas, cant get here soon enough.

Discussion: Commitment line

Just to play devil's advocate....doesnt the rule 1.15 (b) saying "must continue home" imply you cant retreat/backpedal? How can one continue home if they are not going toward home?

1.15 • COMMITMENT LINE
A minimum six (6) foot (1.83 m) commitment line shall be marked across and perpendicular to the foul line and placed thirty feet from home plate. Once a runner has crossed the commitment line he: [a] cannot return to third base; [b]must continue home; [c] can no long be tagged out by the defensive player; the defensive player must touch the strike zone mat. The ball remains live.

Discussion: Over-ruled call confusion

Creins......that rule wouldn't apply to this situation as the complex had a scoring plate which was different than home plate/mat. 45caliber.... not sure where yall played but we also had a scoring plate in MD this weekend. Our umpire, prior to the game, told us from the scoring plate to the backstop was a safe area for runners to cross. I guess it would be the umpires judgement where straight lined from the scoring plate to the backstop would be, on a bang bang play. Probably doesnt help answer your question but thats how it was handled for us.

Discussion: Giving a Shout Out

Too many times I get on this board and see nothing but complaints. Let me try something new this Monday morning. I'd like to give a shout out to Tim McElroy and the grounds crew in Sterling, VA. After having torrential rains most of Friday and Friday night, they had the fields in spectacular condition and ready for play on Saturday. Both the Over 40 division and the newly formed Public Service Division had 8 teams and a great time was had by all. Thanks for all you do and look forward to playing in more events.
