Discussion: You make the call

It was told to me by an x major league umpire the reason for the rule about a runner getting hit by a batted ball was because in slowpitch softball a runner had to stay on the base until the ball was hit but not so in baseball. Now if that is the reason not sure but it does make sense.

Discussion: Batters Box & Batting Position

If the back foot is in front of homeplate when you make contact with the ball, you will be called out.

Discussion: Batter out of the box

Why do you think the batters box is there? The box is there so the pitcher can decide how to pitch a batter by his position he is in the box. The short pitch is like a good curve in baseball. Trying to get the batter to hit a ground ball. I know the batter wants to hit the ball higher than his waist so should we allow a batter to move up on a pitchers pitch so you can make it your pitch. I agree batters boxes get rubbed out early but if they are drawn correctly an umpire knows when a batter is over the line 90% of the time. And just because the line is gone he still should make the call. If no foul lines are down je still has to make a call. Batters want all the rules to help them out. Give pitchers a chance. When a baseball pitchers throws that breaking ball over the outside corner and the announcers say that is unhittable the umpire does not let the batter step out of the box so they can hit it.

Discussion: TOC WINNERS

Rob64. One is a true TOC the other is an Invitational Tournament. They have some Champions but also have teams that have played in one tournament and went 0-4. Thats not a TOC.

Discussion: Interference or Not

On a batted ball the defense has the right to make a play on the ball. The runner must avoid contact.

Discussion: 4 Game or 5 Game Guarantee??

If you win your first game in bracket play or your first game in losers bracket it does not matter the 3 game guarantee does not affect you.In a 16 team bracket it only effects 4 teams.

Discussion: Fair or Foul

It would be determined foul or fair as to the relative position of the ball when it contacts the runner. In foul pterritory it would just be a foul ball. If in fair territory dead ball batter awarded 1st base all runners move up one base if forced.

1 man of course home plates call. 2 man home plate has catch no catch, foul or fair unless base umpires goes out on the catch. Look any any umpires manual. If base umpire is watching catch he will never see runner missing 1st base.

Discussion: Need clarification on rule batter box lines

If there is no foul lines are all balls fair or foul. Just curious. An umpire can make a judgment call from 200 or more from homepage and you live with it. But making a judgment call from 5 feet hurts your feelings?

Dave if Wayne has never heard of a non verbal appeal that tells me he has never been to an umpire school. That question is on most umpire test. So we now know he missed at least one answer if he has ever been. The line drive back to the pitcher when the runner leaves on the contact is a non verbal appeal. The pitcher is appealing the runner left early with out saying a word. Every body in the park knows what he is appealing.
