June 20, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Western Nationals Jimmy - The Woodland and Davis fields are about 13 miles apart. The Woodland Complex that I believe they are using is all synthetic. |
June 17, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Classification question That's an answer but not a reasonable one. I would like someone to tell me how this happens? |
June 17, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Classification question How does a AAA team roll through a 14 team Winter World Championship, beating teams by an average of 8 runs, carrying a Major Plus player on their roster, not get bumped? Can anyone give me some insight as to how this could happen? |
June 13, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Attention all 50 Major Plus Teams! Western Nat'ls are played in Woodland and Davis California July 15th through 17th. Would like to see some new faces. |
June 10, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Attention all 50 Major Plus Teams! I'm looking to get a count of how many 50 Major Plus teams are planning on playing Western Nationals in mid-July. If your team is going please respond with your team name. Thanks! |
June 4, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: xReno 2011 50, 55s If I were the UIC I would conduct Regional clinics for my umpires and make it mandatory that they attend. I would have practical demonstrations showing what is considered a legal pitch and what is illegal. I would also invite team Reps. to attend. Hopefully, that would put everyone on the same page. |

June 3, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: xReno 2011 50, 55s Given that this is a hitters game, as a pitcher I will try to push the envelope any time that I can. I will test the arc, test the speed, attempt to quick pitch, pitch from beyond the allowable distance. I will do anything that I can to turn the odds in my favor. Even then, the hitters still have the advantage. |
May 31, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: xReno 2011 50, 55s Donny wasn't doing anything different than what he has been doing for years. The head of the umpires was there at the complex and watched Donny pitch. He did not direct the umpires working the games to make Donny change his delivery. If his pitching got in to the Maverick's head more power to him. Bottom line - it is still a hitter's game. The ball must be delivered in a range from 6 to 12 foot. If you can't hit a ball delivered by a slowpitch pitcher then you better move to a sport where you can place the ball on a tee. |

April 22, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 40+ teams in a senior qualifier? Jawood - Seeing that one 40+ guy hit that rocket over you to the fence was enough to convince me that I (a 55+ player) didn't want any part of the 40's. Did he Pee on that or what?! |
March 12, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Bats Discussion: How many shaved bats in SS Mad dog - I read the Kettering study and I do see where you are coming from. However, that study was done using ASA bats. I think that if a study was done using "Senior" bats the results would be a lot less dramatic due to the already thinner walls of the senior bats. |
March 11, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Bats Discussion: How many shaved bats in SS I really don't have a problem with rolling or other methods that guys use to break in their bats quickly. I don't consider that to be "altering" a bat. The association approved makeup of the bat has not been altered or changed. What I do have a problem with is shaving, endloading of a factory non-endloaded bat or removing the rod from the handle. All of those things would fall under the category of "altering" a bat. If the manufacturers could come up with a production process whereby the endcap would be a continuous part of the barrel that might go a long ways towards stopping the "Doctoring" of bats. My observation - There seems to be a lot of players questioning (privately) other players equipment but no one really wants to call that player out. |

March 5, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SSUSA Spokane WA Qualifier My team will definitely be there. There should be a lot of NW teams at the tournament since it is the only early season Qualifier in the Northwest. Hope to have some Canadian teams coming down. |
March 3, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: Bats Discussion: Combat Bats James - I didn't know that you are a "bat whore"! Every team needs one. I can't wait to try all of these new bats you are buying.LOL |
Feb. 25, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Equaliizers - Are They Equal? Maybe Not Gary19 - It's not about how you put your pants on, it's how you choose to structure your team. Do you load up with long ball hitters or do you emphasize defense and speed. Face it, every association in the country bases their classifications primarily on power. As you move up in classification you are allowed more home runs. If your team consistently hits their allotment of home runs and hits DBO's and you have some success you WILL be moved up. Mario - If you want,I can loan you a LOG that you won't have to worry about going yard when using. I'm convinced that for a lot of jackers it's an ego thing. It's a selfish way to play the game. I won't play with anyone who puts personal accomplishments ahead of team success. |
Feb. 24, 2011 leftyodoul | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Equaliizers - Are They Equal? Maybe Not This is a controversial subject and there are a lot of different opinions on how to remedy this situation. I do agree with Jay that the Major and Major Plus teams should be combined. Afterall, who wants to spend their time and money to fly across the country to play in a 2 or 3 team tournament? I think that it could be done easily. Just implement the 5 home run rule when a Major team is playing a Major plus team (without the 5 run or extra defensive player handicap) and when two Major plus teams meet they could implement the 10 home run rule. Additionally, I don't understand why more power hitters don't switch to non-senior bats after their team has hit it's limit of home runs. That way you could keep your normal swing and not have to worry about hitting a DBO. I'm not a power hitter but it just makes sense to me. |
