Discussion: Murphy's Law

Playing in Knoxville, Tn. Close game, down by a couple. I bat last in the lineup and in this game really struggling; 0/3. Bases loaded; no outs; and I am at bat. An "aha" moment. Leadoff hitter is next; he is batting a thousand. This is our 5th game; he is on a roll! I intentionally take 3 strikes in order to not hit into a double play and our superstar is up next! He proceeded to hit into a double play; inning over. We came back and won it in the 7th. We played 3 more games and he never made another out.

Anyone else ever have a "Murphys" experience?

Discussion: 11 defensive players 65+

I personally like having a middle infielder if he is competent in that position. It does keep batters off pitchers for sure but the primary reason for me is the amount of defensive excitement added to the game.

I took a pickup team to a tourney in North Alabama a few years ago made up primarily of tourney players. It was a local thing. We turned 15 double plays in 5 games which included every infielder making at least 1 (catcher as well). The middle infielder was Mike Jackson, someone pretty well known here in the South.

Also forgot to mention how fortunate and blessed I am. I sat out 8 weeks then came back and played the last 2 months of our season. The mask is my new best friend!

I failed to give credit where it is due. My good friend and coach of the 60 Gents, Steve Stokes, recommended the cricket helmet. It is a Shrey.

Discussion: Pitchers mask

JDub, I was pitching in a senior league (RASSA) game. This part I hate to admit--we use nets. Line drive about 4 inches off left side rail of net. I peaked; split second blind spot and knocked me out. 3 days in hospital.
Our 3B said the sound off the bat and on me was almost the same. Another thing I hate to have to admit--our league uses the Rock in spite of earlier protests from me and others.
Of course, the blame is all mine; should have stayed behind the net!

Discussion: Pitchers mask

4 months ago, after a line drive broke 2 bones in my left cheek, my wife decided I needed a helmet. With our daughter's assistance, they found a cricket helmet/faceguard on Amazon. There were actually several different models/styles.
It fits well; is very durable and there are no vision issues. Highly recommended!

Discussion: Pitchers. A bit insane?

Fractured left eardrum (baseball) 1972. Separated layers of skin in stomach, quasi hernia about 10 years ago. 3 inch indention in left shin by 47.cor in 1990. Quarter size hole in left ankle 4 years ago. Scrapes and bruises from head to toe! Maybe I am just a thrower and not a real pitcher but I still love it!! I have pitched for 60 years starting at 12.

Some teams have asked me about making this a 2 day event. If there is enough interest, we can play pool play on Friday, August 6, then double elimination on Saturday, August 7.

Taking only 12 teams; first come first served. 4 team RR on Friday, 3 GG, then 4 team dble elim on Saturday, championship game around 3 p.m. for each group. Still a practice tourney!
