Discussion: When to use a senior bat?

USSSA and SSUSA designated 40+ and over tourneys usually allow for Senior stamped bats.

However, the individual tourney director makes the final decision.

Just because you are 40+ DOES NOT mean you can use a Senior bat in any tourney.

Congrats and have fun!

A bad day playing softball is better than a good day at work.

Wow. Winning 11 in a row sounds like utter dominance to me. I wonder how many times that has happened at World?

I would guess 95% of the World Tourney champs make at least the semis of the Winner's Bracket.

Last thing I want to see is guys get ejected for erasing lines that will last 3 batters anyhow and guys getting called out by an umpire trying to guess if at the point of contact he is out of the box or not. A pitcher can get hit on any pitch from any stance, so to call it a safety issue is exaggerating.

The game is supposed to for fun and participation, not spending time creating more rule controversies.

I would also say that the super bats and balls is why a lot of guys still play. For me it makes the game more fun (of course I don't pitch). Much rather that than USSSA or wood bat and be bored by 8-7 games with balls that wither in the heat. The harder the ball the better and the Tattoo should be the worst ball we use. (and yes I've read about supply issues and understand)

Some guys like to move their feet to make contact almost like tennis. When balls are coming 100mph you can't really move quick enough.

Pitching nets are awful and ruin the flow of the game. In my opinion there would be even less teams.

Absolutely agree 100%.

It was too bad a team dropped out thus unbalancing the bracket a little, but that is no one's fault.

Someone was saying this was the last year for that tournament. Any truth to that?

We used USSSA Classic M's at the CT Masters. Not so good in the heat and they are Senior bat breakers. None of the teams used their limit in home runs that I saw. Pretty much takes away the fun of playing senior ball in my opinion.

There must be some other options available, but I'm definitely not the expert on the type of balls available at this moment in time.

Brett, I guess you don't understand the consumer/business relationship. As someone who spends hard earned money playing senior softball, I prefer to be satisfied that I am getting the value I deserve.

And by the way, THEY are lucky we are still playing at our age not vice versa. You can call it complaining, I will call it fiscal responsibility.

I see you don't think or care much of your customers and their opinions. Excellent business model.

Those 400 foot fields are absurd and were in awful shape. Simple fact that can be verified by anyone who participated last year.

Anyway, thanks for responding.

Are those poorly maintained 400-foot fields being used again this year? After playing on them last year, I would consider it senseless to waste my time and money again.

Name one tourney my team could have entered that had a 203 to 243 team bracket. Good spin though.

I run a few leagues, could you enlighten me on this test for rolling bats? Would love to implement it.

I know a lot of people "altering" the bats by using harder balls during BP I guess.

Rolling just shortens the life of the bat in my opinion and it's impossible to test for rolling.

Testing bats would ruin senior softball for good. It's hard enough to find a tourney with at least 8 teams as it is.

Thank you - that was awesome, but I have a follow up question.

The team who won the Western Nationals in 50 major was moved up a class on August 5th. Who will be representing the West in the USA championship game?

Is there a list somewhere of teams that were bumped up mid-season like there is at the beginning of the season?

Discussion: Question about Brambleton, VA fields

I presumed nothing as I simply reviewed the county website that clearly stated 400 foot fields.

However, 375 in CF is absurd and beg to disagree on the need for temporary fences (if they were available).

Thank you for the information.

I see the fields are 400 foot - is this the way they will play or is there a temporary fence set up?

The whole point is to play and enjoy yourself. Hence the 4 game guarantee. I'll let you in on a little secret....none of the games are really that important. You should be happy to be your age and able to play with your buddies against like minded people.
