Discussion: Question regarding Senior Recreation Leagues

Ventura County/Southern California: bat usage restricted by the cities:

Oxnard requires single wall bats. Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Camarillo, Ventura all
require bats stamped with ASA sticker. No tournament bats allowed.

We did modify our Tuesday league to allow 80's to use U2's.

We have a four team 70+ league on Monday mornings. A four team 60+ league on Monday
nights (April thru August). A 60+ (with two 55+) league with six teams on Tuesdays.
A four team 50+ league(majority tournament players)and a 50+ league with five teams
(mostly rec players) on Wednesday and a five team 65+ league on Thursdays with five
teams.

All use the Trump 375/44 ball.

Discussion: Las Vegas

We did lose one of our fellow competitors during the tournament.
70 year old gentleman playing with
Triple Play at Desert Breeze on
Wednesday-was walking out to his position (2nd)-went down and it took
approx. 30 minutes to get medics to
the field and help for him. Don't know
if the defib was put to use. He died
three times on the way to the hospital
but they were able to bring him back each time. Passed away after 3+ hours
of surgery. Had previous heart problems and they couldn't stem the
internal bleeding.
To John Bass and fellow players with
Triple Play and to Bill's family-our
condolences and prayers go out to you.

Discussion: Batter interference ?

Mad Dog: I'm glad Marv brought this up because it needs further explaination. The player who went in to run (from the dugout) was not in the
game (but on the roster). He declared
that he was a substitute player entering the game for the runner at first (not a designated runner). The ump called him out and we protested. The ump then went to find the field director (no one came to the field) and
returned with the same call. Since
the runner from the dugout was not a
designated runner I felt he should have
been entitled to take the base. I agree with your call on Marv's situation stated above-your thoughts
(or others) on what really happpened.

Discussion: Nice going, SSUSA Staff

Gentlemen: Have to give Dave all the
credit for the current updates. We
were at the park Friday night to watch
some of the "50" games and Dave was
there "pecking" at his laptop bringing
the brackets current for the day!!
Love the Dowells: Dave and "Money"
for the great job they did this last
weekend. Fields were fantastic (but
hot!), umpires were good and not so
good (as usual), schedules and timing
went well.

Discussion: 55 Major

Kenny: you know Jano and I have to get in our digs when we can!! We are in the same position as you were last year
but we will continue to play and see how
we do. We were a good AA team but we didn't win any major championships (we did win a ring tournament-CA state championships) but I think we got moved up because we won by an average of +5 runs and we were able to score five runs an inning on a regular basis. So far in AAA we are 2-6 against AAA teams
and not having as much fun as we did last year. Be easy on ##7-he does have
the right to express his opinion-right or wrong!!

Jano: do I see Kenny sidestepping
your apparent reference to "isn't
a MAJOR team" last year? or just
doesn't want anyone to know that
they can "sandbag" with the best!!

Discussion: AA Home Run Power

Gentlemen: very confused on the discourse concerning
this tournament. 1st rule: AA team gets five runs from
an AAA team: one run in the second thru sixth innings.
If you don't play six innings-you don't get five runs.
2nd rule: when an AA team is playing an AAA team,
AA homerun rules to apply. I would blame most of
the problem on the tournament director who seemed
to run the tournament using his "own" rulebook.
If Sacramento doesn't move this team up to AAA
after hitting that many homeruns, then we need to
question the "sanity" in Northern California. AA teams
might hit one out a game-not 13! and the excuse with
the 275' fences doesn't hold water.

Discussion: What to wear for shoes at Golden Eagle/Reno

Great place to play-wish all the fields we played on
were like this. Had guys sliding with no problems.
Did talk to some who said don't try it headfirst-you
stop on a dime!!

Played at San Rafael on Sat. and Sun.. makes you
appreciate the new fields even more!!! They should
have shut down this facility and kept the one off
Sparks at the 80!!!

Discussion: Rock-n-Reno Change of Dates for 60s??

Gentlemen: I just printed out the detail sheet
for Reno and it shows the 60's on 5/27-5/29.
We had planned on going also but this could
put a damper on our participation as we have to
leave on Monday and come back Thursday.
We are going to Palm Springs for Spring Worlds
Mar. 13th thru 15th and we are playing Thurs.
thru Sat. which will only cost us two days of
vacation.

Discussion: SSWC Worlds in Las Vegas:

A big thank you to the SSWC for
a great tournament. I think the
only problem we had was getting
to the manager's meeting the night before the tournament and finding out that the schedules had
been changed due to team reclassifications. This shouldn't
happen the day before we start.
Congradulations to Chicago in the 60AA--you played like a super
major team against us; but winning that game against the boys from New Mexico-the gods were with you!!!
