May 30, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Talking Trash Trash Talking: Told my wife I could cook better than her; McDonald's $1.00 hamburgers are getting monotonous. Told her I knew how to run a house better than her: so now I get to run the vacuum, oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Told my wife that she had some qualities that I did not like; she told me it was because of those qualities that she did not get a better looking/richer husband. Told my employer that I knew how to run a company better than him; unemployment benefits do not pay near what I was making under his employment. I play on a team that we are always cutting up & semi-gouging each other, but never are we trash-talking each other down. Senior Softballers should be over that junk: I will NEVER play with a trash-talker; there's enough junk in the media & in everyday life, that I will not tolerate it when I take my time & money to attend SSball Tourneys. Mentioning Ali: I think Frazier went to his grave thinking about all the bad things that Ali said about him. I pick Frazier anyday. BTW: If you believe in trash-talking try it out on your wife, kids & grandchildren & then see if anyone remembers you on Father's Day, BDay or Christmas. May 21, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Associations Discussion: AGE & RATING MIXING AT TOURNAMENTS???? GaCMan; I picked that up; knew what you were talking about; these great guys will compete; but you are correct, would not be much more expense for the 55AAA Trophy. BTW: what an incredible performance by GaCMan & his team; about 3-4 players could not make it, but they kept their heads up & contended. Tater50 You Cannot Fool the Man in the Mirror. PS Praises, accolades to Ronnie W; the ump @ Pensy with cancer that many of us gathered around last year & prayed with; GREAT report; has to report for a checkup in regards to his PAST cancer problems in a YEAR. Well worth the trip to get that info. |
April 5, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: ON MY HONOR 3 Paco13: "GaCMan, good post but it seems to me that you know who is doing it". I know GaCMan well: in NO way would he cheat or allow anyone on his team to cheat; so I can reaffirm that he has no one on his team that cheats & we played together last year & there was no one that cheated on that team. I do not bet, but that is one bet I would make. Tater50 "Standing up for the GaCman" You cannot fool the man in the mirror!! |
March 23, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Knee(s) Replacement Question: did you have severe muscle pains in your calves, outer calves, lower thighs (about 6" above knee downward) & ankles before the knee replacement? So severe that it keeps you awake at night. I have these pains in which ALL specialists that I have visited: heart, hemo, sleep, ortho have not been able to put a finger on. I take no medications, no physical issues (overweight), cholesterol 11 points high; no sugar issues..........total puzzlement!!! Tater50 |
March 21, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Knee(s) Replacement Talked to an old friend Joe this past weekend @ Montgomery Al who had both knees replaced & he highly recommended it. We discussed how that we could be walking & our knees & legs would give out & we would go towards the floor; both had a good laugh about getting old. BTW: Joe is a monster size of a guy & takes care of himself. He recommended to hold off as long as possible; rehab was tough. For those of you that have had replacement, please give your experience. Length of recovery, down time from work; etc. Do you recommend it? Also, indicate whether you had one or both replaced; both at same time?? (do not know if they perform this or not) Thanks Tater50 For those who know me; it's hard to believe, but I have gotten SLOWER.............CR please!!!! |
March 18, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SPA Montgomery Ho: what area are you in reference to? Also, would like to give a thanks to the officials; they finished our tourney on Sat & could have easily pulled us into another day; saved us a lot of time & money. Tater50 |
March 18, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SPA Montgomery Participated in this tourney this past weekend; I am not "promoting" the SPA on this site, just wanting to give a couple of observations about SSBall. Columbus, Ga has a 60 & a 55 team; when we got to Mont. we found out there were only 2/55 teams in the tourney, I immediately felt bad about that number cause I do not remember in 12 years of that number being that low. Someone later informed me that there were 15/50 teams (great turnout) so that gave me a renewed hope that we have fresh seniors coming up & maybe the reason that the 55 tally was so low was due to other reasons. Someone in the upper ages maybe able to comment on the number of teams in that age group. Tater50 |
March 18, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: I never dreamed it would be this hard to start playing again. HMMM!!! I do not post very much on this board; but stories like these are very interesting & worthy of reading. Grey Dawg: way to go & glad you are a part of us. Tater50 Columbus LX |
Dec. 30, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: WHAT TEAM DOES EVERYONE PLAY FOR COLUMBUS LX Catch: need CR; run my mouth all the time to keep the team up. Played w/GaCMan last year. Tater50 |
Dec. 27, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Rule change Interaction Gary: I have stated it many times; but the power of the vote is what computes. Today: A Player Poll might be taken: it may give us exactly what we have at the present; but according to multiple threads on this board, the CR needs to be visited & other rules; but we are only talking about 1%(guessing) of ALL of SSball Players that thread this board.. Example: If there are 400(just guessing) teams that attend the Las Vegas Tourney X 15 players that= 6000 votes. That is just one example. How many SSbal players overall; 10K??? I have ideas; you have ideas; but the majority does not vote on the rules; a Player Poll would accomplish that or team coaches that have amalgamated the total team concepts on what needs to voted on (would take LESS time). How do I know that my thoughts will be projected @ the SSball Summit? I cannot afford to go to the SSummit!!! I do not know of anyone that I have played with in the last 12 years that has gone; w/the exception of 2-3 coaches. On-line Player Polls would cut the SSummit expense. I know a lot of passive players that have great ideas that would not tell an AD or a TD their thoughts, but would tell their coaches or would eeeeeee their thoughts to the associations. Send out a poll; give the players or coaches 2 weeks to respond w/their thoughts of rules change; then consolidate the changes & then proceed w/a PPoll. The time to do this is in the OFF season (for 2012)& not during the season. Not trying to tread on your thread, but we are ALL a union & the majority needs to speak. Tater50 PS Don't change the CR too much or I'll have to sit @ home LOL!!!!!. |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Ever Been Personally Polled No elaboration necessary unless you want too. Indicate the number of years you have played SSball: Average number of Tourneys that you played per year: How many times has an AD or TD ask for your personal opinion about rules? I have played since 99 10+ Tourneys a year= 120+ Tournaments Cost: have no clue I have NEVER been personally polled about the rules, think that SPA had a Poll a couple of years back, but None other. Here's a point: a poll may be taken & we may be at the same point that we are today, but at least we would know that it is a declaration of the majority!!! Tater50 |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Who Cares About the Rules?! Steve: I care about the rules, but..........the point is valid about the cost. Would be more pleasant if I knew that the Majority of Tourney players had been polled to make the rules. My guess is that most guys average $300+ dollars a weekend; according to distance traveled!!! Tater50 |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Rules of the Game-Love them Simpler Solution to the Player Poll: If mass eeees are too much a problem or too expensive or too time consuming then; Take every current manager & every new manager; get them to eee all of his rostered team & find out what they want in SSball; then the team votes as opposed to ALL the players; would more consolidate the voting. Give the team managers 2 weeks to respond; after that, their vote is null. Send all the amendments, changes or whatever to the respected associations. I have NEVER had an AD or TD in 12 years to ask me what needs to be changed; the minority is speaking!! I am tired & I am sure others are of the constant threads discussing this that or the other, when these topics could be eliminated by a POLL. Tater50 |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: PLEASE tg69: If you are married, the only last word that you have is when you crow.........................outside the house when the hen is NOT present...............just like the rest of us MARRIED guys!!!! Just a joke LOL!!! Merry Christmas Tater50 |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Hope You Have a Blessed Holy Day and Holidays Right there with you SouthPaw; Christ the reason for the season. To all the Senior Players: have a blessed family holiday!! Tater50 |
Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Rules of the Game-Love them Gary: "over the years to best serve the MAJORITY" I have only seen one Player Poll. So, I cannot agree w/your statement. The ONLY way that a "MAJORITY" can be obtained is by a Yearly Player Poll or Occasional Player Poll. When I state Player Poll: those that ACTUALLY attend these tourneys; if you are not on a valid roster & have participated; your input is do-diddly squat!!! I have played for 12 years & have not seen more than one Player Poll. The Majority never vote on the ideas. I have yet to get an answer as to why we have to have a Yearly Summit Meeting instead of a Yearly Player Poll. Is it due to: 1. Cost 2. Time 3. Other. Until we get a Player Poll; the Majority never speaks. What I want MAY not be what the majority wants. JMO Tater50 |
Dec. 17, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Do you guys thank.... Gary19: NEED to take a look in the mirror, look at your awesome family; what you all have accomplished; what you have & where we live & take a "thank you, please, you're welcome" pill. You are OFF base & are looking at the world thru obscurity!! I believe you will mellow some!! I have been married 37 years; have 2 children; I do NOT let a chance go by, whether in person or on the phone to let my wife & children know that I love them. Repetitious: yes, but sincere!!! I also tell them thank you, please pass the food or whatever. I also say thanks when I go out to eat cause that waiter/waitress is doing one of the hardest jobs in the world (was in restaurant business for 27 years); putting a product on the tabel that they did not cook, but they are suppose to convince you that you are putting the best food in the world in your stomach, that it is clean & not ruined. Nothing like selling tires or any other product!! If you do not do that at home or wherever, try it for a week & your world will change; soon it will be second nature. IMO: you are OFF base on this one. Tater50 My ID has been on the board for years. |
Dec. 17, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Fortunate Expounded Steve65 brought up a great topic. Let's take this scenario: NO SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATIONS PERIOD!!!!! What would you do to replace this void? Myself; I have a very hard time during the winter cause I am not playing; so I have to pour my extra time into working on my farm; I like it, but do not LOVE it like I do playing SSball. (I do not like to play SB in the COLD) I have had several knee operations & 2 blood clots that left me inop or partially inop for the season: I had a TOUGH time. If we were talking about ANY other sport, I'd have NO problem, but SSball is AWESOME; the game, the teams & the teammates. Your Thoughts Tater50 |
Dec. 16, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Fortunate Steve65: Good One. I never got to play any sports as a kid; my parents were real religious; did not start regularly playing SB until I turned 29; so I have been playing for 32 years. At the origin; you could buy a bat & glove & it would last you for many years. SSBall: I was playing against Winky (Faith Electric) in a 1999 Ga State Tourney & he invited me to play SSBall; I told him that I did not play w/old guys. He said that I needed to try it; I might change my mind..........AWESOME choice. Just a few of the AWESOME things about SSBall: 1. In 12 years, I do not think that I have seen any major confrontations between players or teams. 2. Its MORE fun & less stressful: guys actually show up for the tourney & you do not have to pull them out of jail to complete a team roster. 3. Competition is beyond my imagination; Seniors know what they want & train accordingly. 4. Incredible Friendships: see some of the same faces that I saw in 99. Downside: you have to wait till spring to start playing again & seeing your team mates. WE ARE FORTUNATE!!!! Thanks Lord!! Tater50 |
Dec. 15, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: CR Wouldn't a YEARLY PLAYER POLL, not a Summit Meeting, rectify a lot of these reoccuring threads on this board? But there again: guys wouldn't be able to spend 2+ hours on this site debating. I still cannot get a definitive answer as to why a YPP can't be administered. 1. Too Expensive!! 2. Too Time consuming!! 3. Other!! BTW: Cr's are needed due to injuries; but a YPP would determine what the Majority thinks. YPP should be to those that actually "attend & spend megabucks & take off from their jobs" for these tourneys; that can be determined by the team's rosters. Tater50 |
