Discussion: Back Surgery pro's & con's

Guys need some input here...My lower back has been hurting on and off for about a year... thought it was just getting old... it would hurt for a week and I would just play through it... and it would eventually go away or that's what I thought... 2 months ago it went out in a game and that was it... walk off the field during the game never done that before had a lot of injury's but always manage to play through them... last 2 months have been lets just say my worst nightmare... I have a pinched nerve that goes from my lower back down through the hip into the knee... So after numerous office visits and doctors with xrays and MRI verdict is surgery bone on bone in 1 disc and pinched nerve that won't go away without some type of surgery... I am asking for anyone out there to chime in with there experience or knowledge on this as I would like to know options... biggest milestone in 2 months has been going to Wal Mart and walking around.. life as I knew it is on hold.... thanks John

Discussion: Spring Tourney-- Saint George Outfield Conditions

I noticed the band of grass in the outfield and your right about 2-3 inches higher... It did seem to cause an illusion when tracking down short fly balls... My biggest concern was the lip in the infield it seems to have gotten steeper and a trip hazard and had some grounders jump off of it making for some bad hop's...
I have loved to play on these fields in the past and have felt these were some of the best maintained fields in softball... They use to drag the infield between games ... I did not see them do that any of the games... made the infields average at best... what happened??? new management?? somebody else take care of the fields.... cost cutting?? anybody else feel this way...

Discussion: Fields at Shadow Rock

We played at shadowrock in the 60s division Fields were fine for daytime use a little rough on field 1 Outfield... umpiring was good.. then came the night games a whole different scenario since fields are two levels lights from other fields showing right in your eyes hard to see the ball... I Thought Field one was bad at night but I think it was fied 2 was horrible.. We started early in the morning... started our second night game at 10:30 and wasn't finished till quarter to 12... to me this wasn't a softball game it whoever was lucky enough to see a ball and catch it... lights were horrible gave neither team a chance to prove who they were all it did was see whoever could catch a shiny object cause you couldn't tell it was a ball... having 60 year old players out on this field after being there all day and not finishing up till midnight is dangerous luckily no one got hurt ssusa please go out there and take a look for yourselves at night I agree this field shouldn't be used at night too dangerous...

Discussion: What's the call

Ok first off I would never want this enforced unless it is blatant... to many guys running the bases tell runners ahead of them to stop or go and if an infielder hears it wrong he cuts the ball or lets it go and your called out or another runner??? The catcher I can see not saying illegal or a infielder telling a runner to slide which might cause an injury but as long as I have played the game ball players jaw at each other and if you don't have your head in the game than you better start paying attention to who saying what and how many outs there our...

Discussion: rules of the game

I have also played unlimited arc and if you couple that with a 1-1 count it has the potential of making the games alot longer with walks unless you have one of the few and I do mean few pitchers who can throw consitent strikes at that hiegth! Yes we did have high scoring games but it seemed to me it took out the real softball experiance with hitting and pitching as it is now... 1-1 count just another way of hurring up a game and taking the enjoyment out of it...

I have never seen an umpire not call you out, If your off the base no matter if you side steped a base to avoid collision. Seems like grey area that is certain to cause alot of arguments and some protests... With the umpire judgement the deciding factor this rule is mute point... But I will make a copy of this rule and use it when I can!! ;)

Discussion: SSUSA What is the REAL Problem?

Personally I don't care if you have put your "real name" to your bio... I choose what I read.. so let everyone post there ideas and opinions as reasonable men and women would... I don't care for removing Post's just because someone wants to use it for a personal attack on someone... just remove the offending comments from that person and leave the posting stand... Ohterwise all someone has to do is call someone a jerk or whatever and now they have the power to have that posting pulled...

Discussion: The Game Of the Future?

I have been playing softball for over 30 years...playing organized baseball into my late 20's, listening to all this banter about hot bats and balls, not talking about altered just advancements in technology has always been part of the game and accepted by players as part of the game and to me make it more enjoyable, be it a bat, glove or shoes I will take advantage of whats out there and is acceptable by what ever league or organization I choose to play with and the key word is "I" choose! Getting back to the point I have heard more players complain about crappy field conditions and lighting, umpires and not so much as bats and balls unless the ball are dead...heres where we should draw the line on what were being forced to play on...getting umpires in for more trainning and a rating system for them... have the fields and lighting ready for players to feel safe to play infield or outfield without fear of injury's due to poor field conditions...Heres where we need to standup and say no to this ongoing problem...If your going to sue someone lets hold the places we play accountable for what there making us play on...

When you have to put a Warning label on a cup of coffee explaining that it is hot and could cause injury because some lame idiot spilled it on themselfs driving away from a fast food place and sued and won a settlement... There will be more and more of this warnings next it will be the balls than gloves,shoes,hats......

Discussion: How to expand TOC participation

BruceinGA... The team I was playing for played at the AAA level most of the year and we came in 2nd in one tournament and were then moved to Major and given berth at the major level and reclassifed as a Major team and told we had to play as a "Major Team" and could not play as a AAA at the TOC??? I agree please explain how They were allowed to play "DOWN"??? as the rule clearly states you play at the higher level??

Discussion: game of the 90's

mad dog, when you buy your golf equipment when you play or if you play you don't buy the old shats and heads you buy what the most adavnced that would help you in your game... Pros are Pros in any sport and they will and are confined by rules which they follow up to a fine line forthe extra edge...If your worried about pitcher safty then make personel protective equipment a mandatory item... not to be signed away by a waiver which is useless anyway...I respect your opinion... I will play by the rules that are given to us by the differn't organazations... Maybe we could have tourny's that go back to the 90's spec's... but I just don't think you would have a good turnout of teams... Good Luck and Play Hard...

Discussion: game of the 90's

I remember playing with the wood bats when I first started playing and then came the metal bats which was going to change and ruin softball forever... then changes in all the equipment came gloves, shoes, clothing, bat trainning aids and so on and on it goes...All sports evolve as does life you stay current and play hard take advantage of the technology as it comes...Once I see everyone turning off the cells, computers and turning in the new cars for the old with none of the technologies, then maybe I'll forget about the new technolgy from other phases of my life...I did not start playing softball till my late 20's "Softball was for girls" and I was keeping it softball playing under wraps as all my Baseball buddies would be laffing at me... I learned to love the game and evolve with it and play by the rules as they evolve...JMO

Discussion: New PPR & Middle rule

I know this has been discussed on SSUSA took out the PPR rule and added the middle ground rule but if the umps had a hard time seeing and enforcing the "BOX" how are they going to get an area 24"??? if the pitcher moves a inch or to upon release he's already off the rubber...Since the PPR is gone they should rethink the new pitching rubber rule and just put it back before the PPR rule and just lets play like we use to...jmo

Just a Note: it is my understanding if you qualified for a TOC berth in AAA get moved up the same year and win another Qualifying Tourny in Major division you will now give up your place as a AAA team and have to play Major at the TOC.

Discussion: Should Umpires Be More Aggresive to inventory Bats before the game

I think the original question was checking bats the are approved for the tourny your playing in be it ASA, NSA,USSSA etc., I have seen bats banned in ASA tourny's being used and I think that should be an easy catch for any ump out there... Old thought on altered bats was sound but its not even close to 100% correct, just grap 5 U2's and they all have a differn't sound according to age and use. If you see a bat being used in a tourny on the bat banned list just tell the batter and give him a chance to fix the mistake as I know all of us at one time grab the wrong bat for tourny rules and started to the plate with it... with so many rules and bat list it would be easy to do... Give the player a break and just let him know... never had a problem with just letting them know... JMO

Discussion: Death & Senior Softball

Seems like everytime we go up a age bracket or maybe just hit the 50 mark it brings us all closer to that "DAY"... Is there something here in this organazation that helps out needy Players? To help with funeral costs? If not can we address this? like to get opinions on this when families are strapped for cash and worried about funeral costs. Seems like a few dollars from the tourment costs might be allocated to it? Again in a perfect world everyone has this taken care of but it's not always the case. I am not trying to offend anyone or put anyone on the spot but would like to know... thanks
