May 26, 2025 GMCinCOS	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Salt Lake City schedule I saw that they did have 8 but still had me wondering. We just came back from Raleigh, they had 9 fields going and they split the 65 & over to a separate session. I think we had 8 fields in KS last month and also split sessions. I'm fairly new to tournaments and always noticed 2 session, at least where I played. Regardless, I'll be in SLC, and looking forward to it.

It looks like all divisions are playing Fri - Sun rather than having 65 and over during the week. If this is right, should we expect evening games and perhaps a late Sunday finish if we're fortunate enough to make it all the way? TIA.

April 15, 2025 GMCinCOS	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Infield fly rule In our 60+ and 70+ leagues locally ( a lower level of competition than ssusa tournaments) we've decided that there is no such thing as "ordinary effort" on an infield fly. if you can't catch it then it is a live ball.
April 14, 2025 GMCinCOS	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Infield fly rule Perhaps because, as you describe, nobody moved to catch the ball the umpire didn't feel "ordinary effort" applied? 1.41 • INFIELD FLY A fair fly ball (not including a line drive) that can be caught by any fielder with ordinary effort when first and second bases or first, second and third bases are occupied with less than two outs. Any fielder can catch an infield fly.

Jan. 28, 2025 GMCinCOS	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: softball comparison Not that you mention these but I'll share my experience, I keep some stats for our senior league. In 2023 we were using Worth Super Gold Dot C-LOK PRO M balls. All our strong hitters hated the balls. Despite them being 44/375 they performed poorly compared to the Tattoo we previously used. In 2024 we got a new shipment of Worth Pro Comp Super Duper Extreme 44/375 balls and our hitters loved them. By the end of our 2024 season (30+ games) we saw an increase in runs scored games: In our 50+ league 35.7 runs per game average, up from 26.45 in 2023. In our 60+ league 32.3 runs per game average, up from 25.2 in 2023. Our 70+ league stayed on the Pro M balls and saw almost no difference in scoring, 19.5 runs per game average, down from 19.96 in 2023.
Jan. 20, 2025 GMCinCOS	Topic: Bats Discussion: Bats in my bag I use my USSSA bat during batting practice to minimize the wear and tear on my SSUSA bats. If i have the USSSA bat in my bag and am tagged for bat testing does the mere presence of that bat get me in trouble? I would not use it in a game of course, and the umpire would not see it during bat inspection prior to a game. The simple answer is don't bring it to the field but often we're practicing offsite and then move to the tournament facility and honestly I'll simply forget. thanks

I noticed for the TOC next month there is a special offer from Southwest Airlines flying into Tampa/Orlando for the tournament. Is this something we can expect to see for other tournaments in 2025? If so, roughly how far in advance of a tournament might we see a discount program released? Thanks

I hope you get a response but what was said last time was no info available until after registration closes (Jan 1). it looks like they added two additional possible locations but we ended up booking a house 20 mins from Winter Haven and are hoping for the best.

Examples include icing, cooling, or heating of any equipment. In addition, approved bats shall not be rolled, shaved or modified to change their characteristics from that produced by the manufacturer. Warming devices for bats are not approved" What is "unnatural" and what is a "device"? if i lay my bat in the sun is that natural? if the bat is in a black bag is that a device?

I was doing this for my 60s team. Happy to share the unofficial list with you, as of today's data anyway, if you want to see it.
Oct. 12, 2024 GMCinCOS	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Online Renewal My issue appears to be resolved, now I see 4 year(s): $70 Card expires: 2028 3 year(s): $60 Card expires: 2027 2 year(s): $50 Card expires: 2026 1 year(s): $35 Card expires: 2025 The 5th year option is gone but I suspect that's because in 2029 I move up an age bracket. @soxbo - perhaps this is why you only see 1 year, due to moving up.

I had seen an announcement from SSUSA saying to wait until after 10/9: "If you are trying to renew for the 2025 season (including Winter Nationals and Winter Worlds), our database will transition to the 2025 season next week, Wednesday, October 9. Please do not renew player or team registration online or via phone before October 9." So i thought/hoped/assumed things had been updated but perhaps it is taking longer than expected.

I registered last October and only did 1 year as I was not sure how it would go, it went great, thanks for asking ;-) I went to renew my membership today (oct 11, 2024) online and see these options: 5 year(s): $75 Card expires: 2028 4 year(s): $70 Card expires: 2027 3 year(s): $60 Card expires: 2026 2 year(s): $50 Card expires: 2025 1 year(s): $35 Card expires: 2024 i am confused why my 1 year renewal says it will expire in 2024 rather than 2025 (and the other options are also short 1 year) Am I reading this wrong?
