Thanks Joe for the kind words about our team. One of the things that make playing ball with these guys so much fun is our chemistry. Considering 7 guys come from Utah (most up by Salt Lake City) and the other 8 come from Vegas, we weren't sure how things would go but it has been great.

Joe Lecak is one of the reasons this team is together. Considering that he almost left softball for awhile we are very lucky that he is with us and helping to keep us competitive. His knowledge and skills are secondary to the fact that he is a good man allaround. I'm lucky to call him a friend.

I hope we do see you guys in Vegas for the LVSSA event. It was pretty good last year and it makes a nice tuneup for Phoenix.

Our biggest surprise out of Reno??? We waited until the weather finally cleared up before we came out flat in a game. Can you believe that?...lol

Joe (Einstein) and all in Reno, what a tournament that was. I told all our guys on the Southwest Legends that this was the best balanced tournament as far as competition goes that we have seen in some time. I wish we could have played better but we didn't come prepared to play on Monday when things had finally cleared up. MTC outplayed us at every turn and we just couldn't come up with the answer for them.

Joe played a hell of a third base against us coming up with every ball hit near him except one that I don't think any thirdbaseman would have gotten.

As usual, Barry and the Erectors had our number again. Like Bert said, "we're tired of losing to you guys." We kept it close to the very end but wound up falling again. One of these days...

Even with the weather being what it was, we had a great trip and I personally met some great guys up there that I hadn't met previously. We are looking forward to the LVSSA event in Vegas and Phoenix for sure. We are looking into a couple of others also but we haven't decided where yet.

Discussion: What 50 Major Teams Are going to Reno?

Hey Bert, we'll (Southwest Legends) be in Reno. Our full squad is going, all of the Utah guys and the Vegas guys. Chaz is even going, just to watch mind you. Since his bypass surgery he has been doing better and better and will be along to provide his humor and coaching abilities.

We rented condo's for the week and will be up there Friday around mid-afternoon.

We'll see you and the After Party guys up there.

Discussion: Top Gun Cancelled Tourney

I'm guessing it is becoming a sign of the times. I had to cancel the Blast in the Canyons tournament in St. George this weekend because of lack of teams. I talked to several teams that all said the same thing, no money!

Does anyone have a number to reach the Jaxx and Mountain Men senior teams in Utah?

Ed,

Send me the info for the Telluride tournament. We have been wanting to come to Colorado to play for some time. We don't want to play down in Vegas during the summer and a mountain escape sounds good. I will get it to the guys and we will see what comes of it.

Discussion: bass bats???

The Bass bats are allowed in USSSA play so I don't know why they wouldn't be allowed in senior play. I could be wrong but I haven't heard if they have been outlawed anywhere.

Does SSUSA have an authorized bat list here on this site?

Dang, I thought Christan spelled her name with a K...my bad.

Webbie, I hope to continue calling games as well as playing for some time to come. I'll catch up with you soon.

Our 50+major team is the Southwest Legends with players out of Las Vegas and Utah. We will be at the Rock N Reno tournament over Memorial Day.

Webbie, yeah I did several of your games at Fovargue Park. I was the big umpire that took the tumble on the bat kicked under my feet Saturday morning.

Happy to say that I came away from that event without any injury.

I had a blast down there this past weekend. Meeting everyone was good, the games were great to be a part of, and we just won't talk about the weather.

GI, Krista, from Combat, stayed down at Rotary Park the whole weekend. She was actually giving hitting tips to a bunch of the guys and got up and hit after Saturdays action. She lit it up with her swings. I don't know why she didn't come down to our fields but she was pretty busy there on Friday when I saw her.

Discussion: Please Explain This Rule to ME???

The rule was developed so that teams from California could not draw all of the talent from the surrounding states to them thereby depleting the player talent pool. At least that was the way it was explained to me.

Discussion: My Miken Did Not Break Posters

I know that I broke an original Combat in under 6 months.

As far as the Miken's go, we have actually had one crack in its first day of play, yeah, we were shocked also. Luckily, the rep replaced it free for us (glad he was there to see it happen). We have real good luck with the bats we have purchased this season. None have cracked or broken to date and we have played alot.

We did manage to crack a new, original batch, Reebok, but have two of the second gen Reebok's that are taking a hell of a beating and carrying on.

All in all, it seems that the manufacturers are starting to listen to us as far as the durability issues are concerned.

Discussion: 40+ teams in a senior qualifier?

Mad dog, this situation has come up in all of the last three tournaments we have played in. Having a Major plus team or a younger team step into our division to play. They usually aren't allowed to play for the championship but only allowed to get their games in. The tournament in Mesquite, Navarenno electric, a major plus team from SoCal, was allowed to play with the major and AAA teams. Not only did they lose to Rapid Erectors, they dropped into the loser's bracket and beat us to send us home. Whether I's whining or not, I don't like that to happen. If your going to let the younger guys (or the higher level teams) play in our division in a tournament, they shouldn't be able to send home the legit teams from a division.

Omar, I agree about the bat restriction not being enough. Half of my team still swing their U-Trip bats. Some of my guys say the senior bats add to much flight to their hits turning them into routine outs instead of the line drives they usually hit with their U-Trip gear.

As an umpire this weekend I wanted to extend a well done to all the teams that played in that heat. I was very impressed with the effort and professionalism that you guys displayed out there. It was 100 degrees at Ken Fovarge (sp?) park yet no one quit or gave up.

Nicely done gentlemen and ladies.

I have 4 60's and 2 50's, teams already signed up for this tournament and many others considering attending. This will be a great one day event that should have great weather and in an area where the whole family can attend also.

I am looking for a minimum of 4 teams in each division.

Winners get half of the entry back and a uniform piece (hat, dry fits or pullovers, your choice)

SSUSA does allow this to happen in some of its tournaments.

There is one thing I would recommend when this takes place. Give the younger team an extra round robin game and have them play single elim only in the bracket play. That way, if one of the older teams does manage to beat them, they can't drop down to the loser's bracket and start sending a bunch of older teams home. If they lose in the winners bracket they are done in the tournament.

Still looking for more teams for St. George. This is one of the finest softball complexes in the Southwest. Its a single day tournament with a 4 game guarantee.

Come on up (or down) and lets play some ball.
