Discussion: Passing of Fred Purvis

For those of you who have written about Fred, I have spoken with Diane and she and the girls and grandkids have read your posts. It has helped them, so for that I thank you. You all correct in your assessment of Fred. He and I started playing football and baseball together at Baker University and continued playing softball together in Kansas City until he moved to AZ. He was more than a great friend and team mate, we grew to be brothers and I miss him a great deal. We watched over each other and each other's family. I am so happy I was able to spend time with him when he returned to KC to honor another team mate of ours and then weeks later to spend what will be the last time I will ever spend with him when we were in Las Vegas to play ball. Diane and Fred and I and my wife spent time between games visiting and going to dinner and lunch together. He is the best man I have ever known and my world is pretty empty now without him. Fred rest easy now, as we will take it from here. I love you man and will miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Discussion: Disappointed

I might agree if we had not discussed the future (2013) after our last game in Las Vegas, made initial plans for a team get together in early December, and discussed the possibility of attending the Winter Worlds in Phoenix as a chance to bring on some new talent for this season. I am not worried about the $$, and will eventually collect all of the uniforms. Disappointed in the behavior of men who professed to live by a higher standard, and that SSUSA does so little to support teams who demonstrate loyalty to them. I know it is not their concern what we do as a team or individually as players (nor should it be), but they have made it easy to avoid having to be responsible to teams or individuals. Yes, I took some things for granted and that may be the problem. I would never not make a 5 minute phone call to explain why I want out (or in for that matter. I guess I see the world differently.

Discussion: Disappointed

Just learned today that a group of men I played with last year were allowed to move to another team for 2013. After the Las vegas trip, I was led to believe we would continue to have 60+ AAA and a 65+ AAA team (place for players to move to as they aged up). I spent the money to register the 60 team, sent out information about 2013 and only heard from one player who thanked me for my efforts, but said he was going to have a knee surgery, probably wasn't going to play and would like a release. As 2013 opened I learned that the rest of the team is now playing on a nother 60 AAA team and SSUSA doesn't make them ask for or obtain a releaase in order to move. The only problem I have with this practice is I did not get all of my uniforms back, and haven't received entry fee moneys that may have been owed to me. In addition had I known that my team wanted to go else where I wouldn't have spent the money to register them. SSUSA policy is to consider all players free agents at the end of the seaason and whoever wants to pick them can do so beginning November 1 of a given year. Lesson learned, I guess. I am disappointed because I was raised to do do the right thing and to treat paople the way I want to be treated. I am sadder but wiser, and a little less trusting I guess.

Discussion: Here's my question on RATINGS

What happens if the above scenario occurs and the team(s) disbans after being moved up. A few players decide not to play for a couple of years and then come out of hiding to play for a team with a lower rating than they had after their team was moved up a level?

Discussion: KC Teams

There is only one tournament team at the 60+ in Kansas City that travels extensively, The Kansas City Bombers (most used to be KC Fire). They are a major plus team. Six of the players from the Kansas City Masters have decided to play with the Bombers this year and three others have decided to play local ball only. The KC Kidds (a 55+ major team) is keeping at least three of their 60+ players for their 55+ team. There are 5 - 8 players who are left over and still want to play tournaments. These guys have played for the Kansas City Masters, MOARKS Metros, and the KC Blues teams. They are base hitters with very occasional power, play good defense, and would like not to retire to league ball only. If you are looking for a team at the 60+ AA/AAA level to play for and depwnding on where you live, sign in and leave a message and a contact.

Discussion: what is the outcome of a runner being hit by a batted ball?

The runner, if in contact with the base is not out. The batter becomes a runner and is awarded a hit and moved to first base. All runners move up one base if they are forced off of the base they occupy. The ball is declared dead if the fielders are behind the runner who is struck by the ball. It is a live ball if they are in front of the runner. Hope this helps.

Sounds like Mr. Clauder is thinking he will be walked rather than earning his spot on a base. Will he be waring his speed shoes? Tell Sam if he makes the right bet he could be eating ice cream on Dennis all summer long.

Discussion: when managers picks all-tournment players

I have played for managers who have picked themselves for AWT and I have been a manager who has chosen players including myself for AWT. I have also played on teams that allowed the players to vote for the AWTs. I know there are flaws any way those teams are chosen, but if you play with guys you like and the manager has integrity, then a player should support the decisions as they are made. I have been a high school coach for 37 years and we have always tried to instill in our athletes that when they play hard and don't worry who gets the credit the team will generally do well. The manager who played catcher and chose himself may have had a reason. If players don't agree or the manger selfishly chose himself, they should play some where else. Our team has always been self-sponsored and to help players out or to cover expenses that needed to be paid, I have had to pay for those things out of pocket. That might warrent a manager to select himself. Maybe just the time time and effort he put in also warrents a vote. Sometimes an AWT player is that individual who contributes things of valuethat goes beyond the outcome of a game or even a tournament. I know that the few times I selected myself to an AWT no one thought ill of me for doing it. Food for thought

Discussion: Turning 60 in 08 in Arkansas

Any one who is interested in 60+ players and can use plyers from Arkasas, I know 5 guys that will help your team. Blaster has already made comment about himself and another outfielder. I have played against them for 8 years and with them for the past two. Mike and David are the real deal. Also Ron Tabor, Ron Fields, and Martine Anhalt will be 60 next year and are great guys and excellent players. We had to split up because we (MOARKS METROS) are turning 60 and we will have to go back to being a KS team instead of a MO team (KS doesn't touch Arkansas). Therefore we lose 5 guys who I am going to miss playing with. These 5 guys can field, run, and hit. They are reliable and are all about team.

Discussion: Looking for lost team mates

My family moved from Norfolk, VA in 1964 to the Kansas City area where I still live. I stayed in touch with my Virgina freinds for a while, but we eventually lost touch with one another. I have played with about three or four teams during my ten years of playing Senior Softball always thinking I may one day run in to one or two of my friends from my Norview HS days, but have never found anyone. So I hve decide to see if any of you who frequent this board my have played or are playing with some of my former teamates. Ronnie Richards, Bill Gabeler, Joey Balderston and Johnnie Carter were three pretty terrific baseball players when we were in high school. Does anyone know these guys and are they playing senior softball anywhere?

Bruce in Ga-sorry I haven't gotten to you sooner. Walk will be allowed to play with the Mavericks from CA. The SPA has decided to let 1 out of area play on a major plus team. He is still waiting to hear from Terry about what he will allow. If they don't respond to him, he will attempt to play with the METROS a 55 AAA team from Kansas City, MO.
