I agree with the response from SSUSA to wait and see on what is done in the Fort Myers area concerning the damage from Hurricane Ian. I don’t know what other teams have done but my players have all booked their flights into Fort Myers along with making our hotel reservations. We still have over a month until the tourney happens. Not sure how much damage has been done near the complexes and hotels in that area but do know the beach area has been hit hard.

Northeast Jackhammers 60 AAA team is also going to Westminster. I agree with the Jags in the hope that this tourney will be a TOC qualifier.

Players interested in purchasing masks/gaiters for the Northeast Championships can find them for sale on a link on the home page of this site. Most are available within a 2 day delivery.

Also with one week left before the entry deadline for the tourney, there are over 50 teams signed up to participate in this TOC qualifier. It will be the first senior tourney to be played in the Northeast so don't miss out on this event. Hope to see you there.
Thanks,

Managers,
The Northeast Championships TOC qualifier is still scheduled to happen July 7th-12th in Syracuse, NY. The entry deadline is June 23rd and we already have about 30 teams signed up to participate. Last year we had a record 54 teams in the whole tourney and we might surpass that turnout this year so if you are planning on attending make sure you get your entry fee in before the deadline. July 7th-9th (Tues-Thurs) is for 65 years old and higher to play. July 10th-12th (Fri-Sun) is for the 40-60 age groups. There is only one other TOC qualifier on the East Coast which is the Eastern Nationals in Loudoun County, Va.
Thanks,
Chuck Sharkey

Just an FYI....that our team in Fort Myers played 9 games with a 1-1 count with a waste foul and only had 1 game that did not go the full 7 innings. We are a 60 AAA team and are in favor of the 1-1 count.

Interesting that if you listened to Joe Torre's explanation on that play. He said that the "out" was called because the runner interfered with the first baseman being able to catch the ball from the throw. He said that the first baseman's glove even came off when the runner hit his hand. I thought that was a "cop out" because if you saw the replay, Trea Turner did not run too far inside the baseline as it was originally thought that was what they were protesting. Granted it was a judgement call that should not have been made and could have changed the outcome of the game if not for Rendon's homer later in that inning. It looks like that they should clarify that play in the future in their rule book.
Just my opinion,
Shark

I noticed that the fields at Brambleton Park are 400 ft deep according to their website. Will SSUSA be using a "removable fence" to set the fields at a shorter distance ?

I want to thank all of the teams that attended the Northeast Championships in Syracuse, NY the past 6 days. The weather was FANTASTIC ! Congratulations to all of the teams that punched their tickets to the Tournament of Champions next February in Florida. I especially want to thank my fellow directors, Cal Allison and Joe Diana for their work at 2 complexes during Session One. UIC Director Marty Brefta provided a great crew of umpires.
Also great job by Dave Dowell and the SSUSA staff for posting the scores each day on the Senior Softball website.
I look forward to seeing everyone back next year in 2019.

The Northeast Championships started today in Syracuse, NY on a very windy but sunny day. There are 38 teams in the first session who are looking to punch their ticket to go to the Tournament of Champions in Florida next Feb 2019. Pool play started today and will conclude tomorrow when bracket play will start .
The 50 AAA bracket of 9 teams will start play tomorrow with Big Bottom Sports as the number one seed. The other seeded bracket is the 60 AAA division with the Cape Cod Mariners as the number one seed. The weather is fantastic for the whole weekend.
I will post the standings at the conclusion of this first session on Sunday.
Thanks,

Discussion: NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIPS SESSION 2 RESULTS

Panther, that is a good question concerning the number of umpires being used. Last month SSUSA decided to use only one umpire per game until you reach the championship day of a tourney. Therefore on Wednesday 2 umpires were used per game unless there is a championship bracket that concludes before the third day of a tourney which is what we had in the 65 Major division at the Northeast tourney that concluded on Tuesday. I hope this answers your question. This was done by SSUSA because of a shortest of umpires in tourneys especially out west or in large tourneys.
