Discussion: New age eligibilty rules for 75s and 80s - Reactions?

Taits,,,You were rambling. All the stuff you mentioned about 60 teams and 65 teams really doesn`t make a lot of sense in that there are many many teams in those above mentioned categories. In the 80 division East of the Mississippi there are only 4 80 teams that are within 7 or 8 hour drives from where I live. The older teams that you mention as being weaker have the option to get younger players and the older players can in this case move up to the 85 age group. I see it as a win win situation. Also, by adding the younger players, you improve the overall play for that division.

Hi Mike.. Chuck here...Yes this has had a very positive effect for me in that I can now play on an 80 team as well as my old 75 team. I`ll be playing with a team out of Michigan and I feel I can help that 80 team. If SSUSA had not changed their ruling on this, I would not be able to go to Vegas or TOC in Florida. At our age, this give us more opportunities to play the game we love. tomorrow is not guaranteed. I enjoyed playing with you guys and hope you continue to play at a very high level.

Does this organization still require an individual wanting to play on an 80 team to be 80 years old that year to play 80? SPA allows a 78 year old to play 80 and it seems unfortunate to me that at 78, I will have to wait two years to play on a team registered with SSUSA. How many more healthy years do I have left? It`s not like a 65 team that has relatively unlimited number of players to choose from. Is this organization considering a change in that age requirement?

I play ASA in McAllen, Texas and they allow stealing. In the situation just stated, the ball is alive and the runner on third can score.

Discussion: bat rolling

I accept Cougar`s comments made above. How can you distinguish a rolled bat by sight alone? I use a Reebok Melee and have never had a bat rolled and yet the more hits you have legally with the Melee, the more the outer paint surface has extensive cracks. I have never rolled or shaved a bat and yet as stated, the outer surface is all cracked up. One of my Melee`s even has much of the paint missing and yet it is legal.

A little testy are we and somewhat arrogant? We pay dues and fees and I do not think it too much to expect as an organization to provide as a service to its members, the results of a tournament that ended four months ago. Eventually...No time certain... specifically when? maybe never? I know you can do better. I think it is an obligation that your members expect.

Fine, that`s specific for one age group. What about the rest? I play 75 and have friends in the 60 bracket. Don`t mean to be a pest, but is that too much to ask?

Discussion: illegally batted ball

We had a left hand batter with great speed often take a half or three quarter swing and hit the ball DOWN THE THIRD BASELINE and beat it out if there were no runners on base. In all of the ten or twelve years he played , he was only called out one time for the chop or bunt rule. It was a half swing not really a chop or bunt. Opposing teams never appealed the play.
