Well said, chico senior (and Dave, of course!) I'm sure some will continue to argue the issue!

Hey txnighttrain, we played 7 games at World's (50+ Major) and none (zero) of them went 7 innings so your point is? I think we'll get to play 7 inning games this year! Maximize the innings in the allotted time we are given to play.

OZ40, How is this for reliable stats? We played 52 games last year and a total 19 of them went into the 7th inning. I could go back and check other years but why bother? More game action in the allotted time we are given to play ... that's what we are getting, it's that simple!

And in other words...just trying to get more game action in the amount of time we're given to play. The 1-1 count will do this!

Forget the 2nd place hat altogether! If you're not first, you're last ... Ricky Bobby.

NYGNYY, It looks like I may be the same age as you and played with the 1 and 1 count since 1982 (until senior ball) so I guess I am one who DID grow up with it. For the umpteenth time, we are not looking to get the game over with quicker, rather to get more game action in the allotted time we have.

Basically, as the staff is presuming, the groups that played mostly USSSA back in the day favor 1-1 and the groups that played mostly ASA favor 0-0.

Math was never my best subject in school but 58 for 58 seems like a pretty good percentage for playing 7 inning games!

I would definitely agree with the suggestion of one courtesy runner per 1/2 inning but probably not the older levels. Eliminating the "coaches" conferences on the mound is another way to help the pace of play. Regarding the 1 and 1 count, some people even question simple math!

OZ40, The things you speak of that slow the game down are true but most of them are not enforceable. The 1-1 DOES help pace of play! USSSA has been using the 1-1 count forever, I think it's worked pretty well there!

Limit the pitcher to one warm up pitch at the start of the inning. Yes, hustle but that's tough to enforce. Another thing that can help the pace of play is ELIMINATE the ridiculous mound visits. This is slowpitch, "strategy" doesn't need to be micro managed at the mound by a Sparky Anderson wannabe! It can wait until you're in the dugout or yell out "hey walk this guy".

How can a 1-1 count NOT speed up the game? Wouldn't it be mathematically impossible not to with less pitches to get to the run limit? The answer is it DOES speed up the pace of play and that's what we're looking for ... more game action, less standing around and more of a chance to play 7 innings!

Come on Smooth01, we've been over this before .. the 1 and 1 count is not to shorten the games, it's to get more game action in the allotted time to play. In other words, players will be moving rather than standing!

Would prefer the 1 and 1 count WITH the foul ball, obviously, but we did not play a 7 inning game in Vegas. The 1 and 1 count allows approximately 10 more minutes of game action in the time allotted to play.

Hey, at least there would be plenty of cases of beer to drink if you went with the 1 & 1 with no foul ball! lol

Dave pretty much explained the need to go to four days in Las Vegas ... it's VEGAS and 11 months away, I'm sure most people can get an extra day of vacation with this long of notice! It will be real nice not having to hang around for hours to see if we have to play a bracket game after the pool games are done.

Now, if we can get away from the local tournaments having us play on Fridays when there are only a handful of teams and none coming in from out of the area!

ric56 & r4pitch ... Agree with the 1 and 1 count!

There aren't many and even fewer on Fridays because of a school day and then thousands on the soccer fields on Saturday!

I wouldn't get rid of AA entirely, keeping it as a recreational division only. If you're trying to win a regional and/or world championships, at least play at the AAA level.

Discussion: Get rid of Major +

You would have to get rid of allowing 2 out of region players for the current Major+ teams since that level is the only one that allows it. You couldn't allow everyone have it because it takes money to bring in those players and most teams don't have those type of funds.

It's not an even playing field right now (Major & Major+) but it wouldn't take much to make it so.
